Awesome day trip to Tikal! Roundtrip flights on the same day (50 min flight each way) and got picked up at hotel right on time at 4:30am. BTW, domestic flights in Guatemala has no liquid limits on carryon as there's nothing other than sitting area and bathrooms after security at GUA (as well as in Flores Airport). Greeted at Flores Airport and the driver and the tour guide, Aquilino, took us to the site with two stops: first showing the model of the entire Tikal site (what it used to look like) and second on a quick stop for a view of the lake. We spent about 5 hours checking out the temples and palaces in Tikal, and we had a delicious lunch (included, but not tips and drinks) at the site as well. Aquilino, our tour guide, is very friendly and knowledgeable about Mayan history and culture. He also points out the wildlife in Tikal, where we saw monkeys, wild turkeys, etc. He also arranged for a quick stop at Flores Island since we have some extra time before our flights back to GUA for a beautiful sunset. Overall, everything went smoothly and on schedule. HIghly recommended!

We had a significant flight delay in the morning, but it was all still worth it! Without our guide, Tikal would have been just a pretty walk, but with the guide it was full of amazing history and context that we would not have received otherwise. The lunch was served in an outdoor restaurant and the food was excellent. It was a great way to start a big day of walking. Overall, the sheer historical depth of the site, and the vastness of it is mind-blowing. For sure, it is a full day of walking and climbing, bring walking shoes, water and snacks. If this trip is in your price range, or at the edge of it, I recommend doing it, this trip is is worth every penny. (FYI: for nervous flyers, know that the planes we flew on were very small but the flights were short and it was still worth it.)

We do enjoy the day trip fling there. We do not mind getting up early for the transfer to airport but do have a concern for those who are not physical ready. There is a lot of walking. Depending on the guides, some will take you through the forest and that may become challenging for some people. If the guides follow the road, then it may be a longer way to go through the most important spots.
They do have simple transportation within the park. However, the little pick-up there is very old and I do question about the safety. Overall the arrangements were good and the lunch was enjoyable. As far as hotel pickup and drop off it was very good. Also the mini-bus from Flores Airport to the Tikal Park entrance has AC which is important as the temperature in Tikal can be 20+ degrees higher than Guatemala City on a regular day.

Had a great day on this tour. Were picked up at 4.30am from our hotel in Guatemala City, small group, told exactly where to go and what to do at the airport. When we landed we were greeted by our guide, had time for a quick breakfast at the airport cafe, then hit the road. Tikal was magical and our guide was very knowledgeable. Most of the day we managed to stay away from larger crowds by going on a different route in the park than other tours. Lunch was very good (vegetarian option was also available), too. Because the airline changed the flight schedule the way back, we had an extra 2 hours to spend so our guide took us to Flores Island and we strolled by the water and enjoyed the sunset. Overall a very good day with a very good guide and every one of our group was super awesome, as well! Glad we didn't try to organize all this on our own, saved us a lot of headaches.

Out of 4 trips we booked 3 with this company and they are great. Very professional. This one was expensive bc of the flight alone. Its 220 if you book it by yourself... then you have to get transportation from Flores airport to the park and get a guide. Pay for their tour and it covers lunch too.
Best of all was the guide Eddie (I think it’s Edwin). He’s great and actually does archeology at the site. Knows everything and is fluent in both Spanish and English. Funny too. Great enough I tipped him.
What I don’t like is that on the way back the airport charged each of us a tax and told us that the airline online covers it one way. It wasnt much, something like 20Q (3 bucks) a piece but it’d be nice to know and plan to have money exchanged.
Also, for some it might be intimidating. They dropped us off at La Aurora airport and told us where to go. Then we get on the plane and go to Flores, walk out and our guide is waiting for us. Only he’s not our guide. He gives us to a driver and I hear him ask him his name before hand then tells us he’s great like he knows him. Lol. Then he takes us to Tikal and there gives us to the park guide Eddie. For me this is no problem. I travel a lot but I know some that would be freaked out in a foreign country. For those I’d put my trust in this company. They’re great.

Aquilino has to be the best tour guide we’ve ever had! The experience to Tikal was substantially enhanced due to his fun personality and passion. We were picked up from the airport and dropped off later in the evening by the same driver, that was a seamless and smooth process. Checking into our flight both ways was also easy to navigate given the instructions from the tour operator. There were no hidden costs, the trip and expectations are exactly as they’re laid out. We had hours and hours of education while walking and climbing this fantastic historic metropolis. Cheers to Aquilino for not only adapting to his group but making sure we were all given the best experience of a lifetime. A truly talented tour guide, we appreciate you!

Favorite part of the experience was climbing the temples. My partner and I also really enjoyed that the guide said the tour information in both English and Spanish. It was really helpful for learning more Spanish during our Guatemala trip! Some tips for future travelers is to have sun protection, and bring Quetzales because there is opportunity to buy water during the tour.

I'm a veteran traveler who has participated in tours for decades, all around the world.
Regarding the administration of setting up this tour, no complaints, Marcia was helpful and accommodating.
Overall, the tour was fascinating, as I hoped for, with so much to see. Manuel was a good tour guide, seemingly better than several others we saw, going pretty seamlessly between English and Spanish for a group of about ten in which both languages were spoken. He capably led us all through the park. Vehicles were clean and modern, drivers nice (other than my pick up driver, who didn't have me on his list of people to pick up with the rest of the members of my group, and who initially looked at me and said, "Sorry, you're out of luck," in a way that was neither, reassuring nor helpful), lunch was good.
Now, to my one big complaint, which is an important one for anyone who values his/her time/money - too much time was wasted on trivial diversions that did not matter. I purchased this tour in large part based on the itinerary that I was provided. The itinerary advised we would be entering the park at 9:00, where actually, we weren't in the park until 10:00, not seeing our first pyramid until approximately 10:30-10:45. The itinerary said lunch between 1:30-2:30, with an hour remaining free time to spend in the park, but lunch was actually more like 2:00-3:00. There was no extra time after lunch to spend in the park, but even if there were, it would have been wasted anyway since the lunch site is far enough from the ruins that for reasons of time and not being able to find one's way back through the jungle, would be a waste anyway. The big impact of all of this is that at the main site in the park, where the biggest cluster of temples is (the most photographed part), we only had a half hour, which I felt rushed through to keep up with my group.
We wasted an unbelievable amount of time at the gift shop between Flores and the park, just outside the entrance to the park. It got to the point that several of us said to one another, "What are we still doing here?" and finally sat ourselves in the van to see if we could speed things along. Then there was another unexplainable stop to, apparently, stop and talk with the cooks, with no apparent sense of urgency, which made people feel free to use the bathrooms at their leisure, slowing things down further still.
We also spent a really long, probably unacceptably long time, sitting in the Flores Airport, waiting for our return flight.
All of this time, or at least a good deal of it, should have been ours, which would have given us at least an hour, 90 minutes, maybe two real hours to explore the park on our own, especially the main site. All wasted time that I had paid for.
Due to this, I have to knock the tour down from "excellent" to "average." If they can get this important wrinkle ironed out, I would recommend the company.

My day started very early - pickup time from my Guatemala hotel was at 4:30 am. After a short shuttle transport to the airport and a quick maneuver through security there was plenty of time until our plane left to Flores. The ride was around 30 minutes with a beverage and snack service. After arrival we were picked up from the airport to leave by mini bus to Tikal. It took around an hour to get to our destination - with a both room/souvenirs shopping stop taken half way in.
Our guide was amazing...very kind, informative and fun. When going on the tour during raining season ensure you bring a raincoat and good walking shoes, also don’t forget to bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
Our tour/walk was around 3 hours long, were we learned a lot about the Mayans. I was strong enough to climb all pyramids that we passed on our tour (sure felt the muscle gain the next day 😉). Most path were shaded, which made the walk enjoyable. At the end of the tour we had a delicious lunch - we had 4 choices to pick from - there was something for everyone (order was taken when we arrived in Tikal).
After lunch we were transported back to the airport...don’t forget to bring some cash for the airport fee, as they don’t accept credit cards.
After arrival back in Guatemala City - I was picked up by shuttle and arrived back at the hotel at around 8:30 pm. It was a wonderful day - just be prepared for 16 hours of fun!

How much walking in involved? What is the distance from where the bus drops us off at the main entrance of the site to Tikal?
Hello. We are staying at a friends house in Guatemala City. Can we join the group at the airport instead of hotel pickup?

The company might offer pick up from Antigua but it would be a very early start (around 4am). The company picked us up at our hotel. We were staying at the Barcelo Hotel in Guatemala City. It is about 10 minutes from the airport.
