  • Permit
  • The restricted permits for Manaslu are issued from Sunday through Friday at 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please note that the permit office is also closed during public holidays but we will let you know if this will be the case.
  • It usually takes about 4 hours to issue the permit and this requires the original passport of the trekker. We will need to hold your passport for this time period to request the government to issue the permit. If you do not have a spare day for the trekking preparation we can also expedite the permit. Please let us know.
  • What document do we need from you?
  • ID picture (passport size - 3 copies)
  • Scanned copy or clear image of the passport
  • Travel Insurance (not compulsory but strongly recommended for your safety)
  • Copy of the roundtrip ticket to Nepal for the expedited permit
  • Transportation
  • There is a total distance of about 138 km (86 miles) between Kathmandu to Sotikhola. The first half (90km) of the road is well-cemented (this is between Kathmandu and Dhading) so your ride would be comfortable. However, after this would be a challenging ride, with dust, mud and very narrow road. During normal traffic, it will only take 6-7 hour for the private jeep to reach Sotikhola and for the local bus, it may take an hour longer.
  • Private jeep will be provided if the group size is at least 4 trekkers. For a group less than 4, you need to take a local bus from Kathmandu to Arughat, and then a local jeep from Arughat to Sotikhola.
  • Trail update: Due to the ongoing road construction on the trail, the first two days (from Sotikhola to Tatopani), the walking times might be longer than a usual. In some parts, because the usual trails are closed, a detour will be required.
  • Accommodation
  • Basic private rooms with shared toilet are mostly available throughout the trek. However, please expect one night in Dharmasala where you may need to share a room with other trekkers during high season. Beds, blankets, and pillows may be provided. Also, the weather could be very cold so sleeping bags are a must which is included in the package above (or you can also bring your own if you wish)
  • Food
  • Each tea house has a restaurant/kitchen offering continental food. "Dal bhat power for 24 hours", the most common Nepali dish allows you to eat rice as much as you can. Normally any vegetables served in tea houses are produced from their own field. This is usually organic, so good for your health. Not every camp offers meat (chicken, mutton, and pork). Please also note that beef is almost non-existent here. If they do, you should check with your guide if this is fresh before you placed the order. Because of the altitude and weather, it is sometimes difficult to raise these animals for consumption. Storing the meat over the winter could also be challenging. Better safe than sorry.
  • In our package from above, it is included 3 times food in one day which you can choose from the menu.
  • Drinking water
  • Relatively, the water in the mountain is not as polluted as in the city and are usually drinkable. You will see locals and your guide drinking this water with no issues. However, to be safe, please make sure you use water purification drop. or drink bottled water. Bottled water is available to buy in each camp (roughly NPR 200 (USD 2) in the lower elevation and NPR 400 (USD 4) in the higher elevation). Majority of trekkers use water purification drop or tablet or water filter to save money. In the package, the water purification tablet and one (empty) water bottle are included.
  • During the day, you don't need to carry more than one litre of extra water . Normally, the water source is available every one to two hours of walking distance where you can refill water.
  • Difficulties
  • Due to the long days before reaching high altitude, the success rate of Manaslu trek is still much higher than Everest Base Camp or any other trek in Nepal. Based on our experience, around 95% of our groups managed to complete the Manaslu trek with no altitude sickness issues. Watch this video to learn more https://youtu.be/6uO6Xn6q_68
  • Trek essentials (What to pack)
  • Detailed trekking essential list will be provided after we received the booking confirmation.
  • Telecommunication in Manaslu Region
  • Only 40% of the area in Manaslu has cell phone signal, However, most of the camp has a satellite phone for emergency contact. Some lodges in Samagaun and Samdo also offer wifi for an extra charge.
  • Luggage storage
  • You can store your luggage in the hotel as most of the hotel in Kathmandu offers a free luggage storage facilities. If you are not comfortable to store in the hotel, we will collect your luggage and store it in our office.
  • Besishar to Pokhara after the trek
  • After the trek, if you decided to go Pokhara, our guide will also help you find the local bus at no extra cost. Please let us know if you travelling any other city after the trek instead of returning Kathmandu. Note that the trip to Pokhara is not included in the trip package.
  • Travellers should have a moderate physical fitness level
  • This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate

I highly recommend to book your trek at Nest adventure. Service quality, prices, you'll have an amazing experience.
But make sure to ask for Sandip as your guide!

For our Manaslu trek Sandip supported us from the very beginning, making sure we feel comfortable, confident and safe even if my friend and I were not the most experienced trekkers.

Sandip answered all our questions and it was crystal clear how much he loves being a guide and having us discover Nepal.

Unfortunately, weather conditions didn't meet our expectations and we couldn't complete the circuit because Larke Pass was loaded with snow. But again, Sandip proved he is different from other guides (who were all making their groups walk back down): we could catch a helicopter ride and Sandip invited us for 3 days at his parents home.

So we had so much more than we ever expected living a real Nepalese experience (cuisine, sightseeing, barbecue party, cricket play...)!

So go for it, you won't regret!

We had an amazing time in Manaslu Circuit Trek! An authentic experience with rich mountain scenery and cultural interactions. Our guide Kanchan was very professional, he knew the area like the palm of his hand, solving all of our enquiries about the route, the mountains and helping us enjoy the trek, taking care of all the details for us. Kanchan also took care of us like a friend, helped my wife with her pack during the Larkya Pass. We also had a very helpful porter Saroj. We thank both of them for the amazing experience and would recommend NEST to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Go to Manaslu base camp it is worth it!

We had a great trip with NEST adventure and our guides Hari and Kanchan! The trek was certainly challenging as it is advertised but the views are spectacular and the tea houses we stayed in were better than we imagined. Due to covid we were lucky enough to have two fab guides with us that were always eagle eyed, pointing out wildlife, up for chatting and playing cards with us while also giving us space on the hike to enjoy time to ourselves. We always felt incredibly safe even though the pass day was an especially technical day and we were a little slow meaning the snow was melting as we passed over it. Having our guides organise and work with the tea house hosts meant we could focus on enjoying ourselves and the trip, we would have been utterly lost without them. I couldn’t recommend enough, it wasn’t the experience I had anticipated but it was better in many ways! The side trip to the monastery was especially good.

We have done multi day hikes before but were still nervous about hiking in the high altitudes, having our guides look over our equipment before was really reassuring and once we were out there there was no going back.

Definitely a challenging hike but you can go knowing you are in safe hands with nest adventure.

Had the most incredible trek experience with Nest Adventure. We were lucky to have two guides, Kanchan and Hari, who were friendly, knowledgeable and brilliant company on the trail. Kanchan carefully checked our gear before we left Kathmandu so we were reassured that we had the right stuff. Hari excelled as a translator for all our questions when we visited a monastery. Both guides ensured we were safe and well looked after at all times. They also spotted animals for us (including mountain goats and marmots), explained the significance of the shrines we passed and ensured we didn't miss any of the amazing sights along the way.
I would recommend Nest Adventures and Kanchan and Hari to anyone wanting to go on the Manaslu Circuit. It was the trek of a lifetime!

This was my second trip to Nepal, on the Manaslu circuit with Nest Adventures in mid April 2022. Perhaps a bit cooler than my fall trek to ABC in 2017. We had a small group of 4 plus our great guide Netra and 2 very good porters. Weather was very good with just light snow flurries on our Larke La pass day. This was a bit more adventure and more difficult than my first trek to ABC. Not as crowded and more Tibetan influence in the more remote higher villages. We did the private jeep both directions from Kathmandu which was well worth it. All in all the experience with Nest was very good and highly recommend them. We had a great time and I lost a few pounds along the way.

We decided to go with Nest Adventure on our 17-days-circuit around Mt. Manaslu because of there high amount of incredibly positive reviews. The entire trip was well organised and we were very happy with our guide Kanchan. He cared for us like a caring father and was very knowledgable of the directions.

Can highly recommend Kanchan as a guide and Neat Adventure as company.

My friend and I spent 11 days hiking the Manaslu Trek, and had a wonderful experience. Our guide, Kanchan Pokharel, was excellent from start to finish. When my friend got sick at the beginning of the trek, Kanchan had medicine to help him feel better. Kanchan provided valuable knowledge of the trail as we hiked, helped us check in at guest houses, order food, and organize all our transportation needs. He made great company on our trek, and was fun to talk to and play cards with! We couldn't be happier having Kanchan as our guide.

We loved our experience trekking in Nepal. The Manalsu Trek will take you through several shifting climate zones and cultures, with beautiful views, and interesting animals along the entire journey.

For those of you interested in the trek, I have a few tips you may find helpful:
- The Manaslu Trek is difficult terrain and a strenuous hike, even for experienced backpackers. I wouldn't recommend if it's your first backpacking experience
- While my friend and I were hesitant on trekking with a guide, since we're both used to planning all of our trips on our own, having Kanchan with us helped us learn about the culture and terrain, and took lots of the stress out of itinerary planning. It was well worth having him with us
- Bring boots with good treads and hiking poles. My treads wore out very quickly on the rocky terrain, and I found myself slipping around a lot by the end of the hike
- Anti-diarrheal medicine is a must. Not everyone gets sick, but you must be diligent with maintaining good hygiene and treating your water on the entire hike
- We were worried about altitude sickness before the hike, but ended up having no problems. We brought medicine with us, but never needed to use it. It took more energy and breath to exert ourselves at high elevation, but that was the only noticeable effect. We met other trekkers who had serious altitude problems, though, and needed to turn around, so definitely be prepared for either scenario
- Make sure you get your vaccines well in advance (ideally several months beforehand)! We kind of scrambled to get our vaccines in before we left. We got vaccines for hepatitis A and typhoid.
- NEST will take care of getting your permits once you arrive in Kathmandu. Just make sure you have a few passport sized photos to give them when you arrive. They'll take your passport and photos and get all the permits, and then give you your passport back after they're done.
- We were glad we purchased the guide package that included lodging and meals, because we didn't have to carry as much money with us on our trek, but be aware if you choose this package you can't just order all or any of the food you want from the menus. There are limits to how much and what you can order per meal, especially as food gets more expensive at higher elevations. You'd probably save money if you purchased food and lodging separately, but it will add some stress, since you'll have to guess how much money you need to carry on the trek
- We trekked at the beginning of June, and temperatures ranged from about 33 deg C (90 deg F) and humid at low elevations to -7 dec C (20 deg F) and dry at high elevation. Be prepared for both temperature extremes
- We had lovely weather for most of our trip, but never actually got to see Manaslu, since it was cloudy all the days we would have had a view. Still well worth it, though, I promise!
- We only hiked for a few hours most days, and had lots of free time in the villages we stayed at. Bring a good book to read and a couple lightweight games to play with your hiking companions!

Pramod and Raj's website manaslucircuittrek is a wealth of information. From that website, I immediately knew I wanted to trek Manaslu, and once I requested more information, Raj was immediate and detailed in all the information I needed: prices, itineraries, current conditions, etc.

I couldn't have asked for an easier process. We decided our dates, Raj formulated and itinerary, and after a quick deposit we were set. Pramod picked us up from the airport and put us in a nice hotel right across the street. The next morning Pramod handled the permits personally so after a late breakfast we were able to leave a day early! No hassle at all!

The trek itself was simply stunning. Unlike anything else I've ever done. Simply the best experience I've ever had. Pramod set us up with a fantastic guide, NT, and a porter Ganesh. After the end of the trek both of them became great friends. We played cards with them every night and shared so many stories. Upon returning to Kathmandu, Pramod treated us to a fantastic Nepali lunch and we talked about our experience.

Quite simply, NEST is the way to go for Nepal trekking. They handle everything and do it quickly. I couldn't have asked for a more helpful trekking company or one that made the process so easy. I was able to coordinate a 13 day trek in a country I've never been to over email--that's how good NEST is! Whatever you want to do, they will find a way to make it work. Cannot recommend them enough.

To Pramod, Raj, NT, and Ganesh, thank you so much! I will be back soon to tackle Kanchenjunga

Recently completed the Manaslu Circuit Trek and I would definitely recommend NEST adventures and our guide Kanchan Pokharel for anyone hiking in Nepal!

The hike was amazing but if you're looking at this review you already know what to expect as far as views of the Himalayas, so I'll stick to talking about NEST and what they provided, in no particular order:

-NEST accommodated our last minute planning (around 2-3 weeks before we left) and provided us with price quotes and hiking itinerary very quickly after we initially emailed them
-When we arrived at 630 AM in Nepal, our guide Kanchan (who was fluent in English) was waiting for us at the airport and organized our transportation into Kathmandu
-NEST organized getting our permits and all the paperwork set up for our trip (took a few hours, so we took that time to explore the city)
-Kanchan and the other NEST employees reviewed our itinerary, transportation and accommodation plans, and our gear with us to make sure we had everything in order for the hike
-When I got a stomach virus for the first few days, Kanchan was conscientious and supportive and frequently checked up on me, offered me meds, and overall made that experience less miserable
-Transportation to trailheads/Food/Sleeping arrangements were all provided to us

Also, for you independent types, my friend and I were skeptical of having a compulsory hiking guide for the MCT because we've always done everything ourselves, but having Kanchan along with us was definitely a positive addition to the hike, besides the pragmatic stuff like organizing hotel arrangements/acquiring food, it was great to have someone along the way to provide commentary, jokes, random facts about Nepal, etc.

Happy Hiking!

The Manaslu circuit trekking has minimum requirements to be fulfilled, being not familiar with the procedure of a third country and in my case devoid of online services and facilities, I was quite scared of my desire to complete multiple trekking within stipulated time frame allowed within gratis visa. Online communication, assurances and familiarization not only of the formalities in lieu with guidelines of Nepal Tourism but also the information related to geographical, cultural and logistical aimed at maximum benefits on part of the trekker without delay or hesitation was conveyed in manner whatsoever convenient by the NEST Adventure associates. While on the trails, frequent communications continued to ensure that no form of inconvenience or unexpected problems occurs. The NEST Adventure has in their circle list of contacts, people and guest houses who would be intimated in advance to provide and facilitate good services to their guest.

Trekking in Nepal is the ultimate experience covering ranges from Mild to Mad, the Himalayan splendor, live avalanches, glacier, moraine, flora and faunas, it is a destination epic and spiritual, nowhere can we see snow clad peaks in the vicinity of the sun amidst cloud than in Nepal. I am from Bhutan, a neighboring country in the same Himalayan ranges with much experience in trekking within the country yet the ultimate experience of the core Himalayan ranges can only be experienced in Nepal.

I would like to sincerely thank Rajendra Khanal, Pradip, Sandip and other members of the company who have been very friendly, positive and always accommodative.
