Food and room at a boat
We did a 3 days 2 nights boat trip on a luxurious boat, dragon legend 1.
Everything good, excellent service, excellent food, the best was the van from and to Hanoi.
But the boat trip was a disappointment, slow speed out, anchoring around the first island, so we did not see the city. With 20 - 30 other boats.
Next day we moved few 100 meters doing some activities, then back to the anchoring place again.
We expected a longer trip, not only few 100 meters from the harbor.
We visiting a cave and a fishing village...
Possible to do more from shore, and at lower cost.
I think some 100 boats are doing similar trips, starting to be crowded.
I like boats, but this was not for me.
Excellent food, excellent crew, it’s the trip that is wrong.

Worth Every Penny
Jan 2020
This cruise was the splurge of our trip to Vietnam and we have no regrets. The rooms are very spacious with comfortable beds. The food is top notch and the portions are HUGE. Pace yourself. Many of the dishes are fish but you'll be just fine if that's not your thing.

Some reviewers criticize the floating village but we enjoyed it. It is not a gimmick or tourist trap. This is how these people live. And there is no pressure to buy anything at the pearl farm.

The staff is very friendly, accommodating, and HONEST. We accidentally left our safe open while on the kayaking excursion. The maid cleaned the room while we were out and didn't touch our jewelry, cash, or camera. Maybe that's what you'd expect for a luxury cruise, but theft is a crime of opportunity and there would've been no way to prove it.

If you're debating the 1 vs 2 night cruise, we strongly suggest 2. Give yourself extra time to relax. Halong Bay is absolutely stunning so you should maximize your time there. One night would've felt rushed. Be sure to spend some time on the rooftop deck and admire the natural beauty of the bay.

Totally Spoiled on this cruise in Bai Tu Long Bay
Feb 2020
Taking the Dragon Legend cruise in Bai Tu Long Bay was one of the best decisions we made to make our trip in Vietnam special. We got to enjoy a private lunch on the beach and a cave tour that was peaceful, beautiful & memorable. We hardly saw any other boats, and I'm sure that's partly due to the permits Indochina Junk has. Everything about the Dragon Legend made us feel spoiled--from the chef's talks, to t'ai chi on the sundeck, to the star of the ship...tour guide, Long. Loved this!

The most amazing 3 days!
Incredible experience on a beautiful boat - waking up to some of the most awe-inspiring scenery in the world. We had the absolute best time on this cruise and are so glad we went with the Dragon legend 3 days 2 nights - we could have stayed longer! We kayaked (all led by the super competent tour guides), we climbed to a cave, we saw a fishing village, we fished for squid (some more successful than others), we met some great people who we’ll stay in touch with when home and had some of the best food of our trip. The beach bbq was absolutely delicious! JD and Long are tour guides were hilarious and made the trip what it was - cracking jokes and keeping us entertained but not in a touristy tour guide kinda way. This is the cruise for those who are wary of booking a tour on holiday..! Book book book - the best money we spent on our trip to Vietnam!

Bai Tu Long Bay on the Dragon Legend, Perfect!
Mar 2020
This was Kelly and my second stop on our Vietnam adventure. They picked us up in Hanoi in a 7 passenger van (with Captain Chairs). It took about 2 1/2 hours not counting the 30 minute stop (tourist stop). The ship terminal was a bit chaotic but organized. Then we took a tender out to the ship. Our cruise guide/host was Long. What a talented young man. And what an outstanding staff on the boat, friendly, professional, you couldn’t have asked for a nicer crew. The cabin was outstanding! The excursions and activities were top notch, and I think I gained 5 pounds eating all the food they fed us, not only was it delicious but it just kept coming and coming. The only problem was they might have spoiled the rest of the vacation for us everything was so great. Thanks to the dragon legend staff and crew for an outstanding time!

Great 3 day 2 night tour of beautiful Bai Long bay... quieter that Ha Long and I believe just as beautiful. Easy cruising, Anchored at nights no worries of motion effects for the less sea faring. We were a mixed family with friends and worked out very nicely food was good, beverages OK pricing. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Shout out to Mr Cai and T- Small for going out of their way to make the trip enjoyable!

A favorite memory of our time in Vietnam
Feb 2020
This experience is one we would highly recommend if you are traveling through Hanoi. It turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our time in Vietnam.

We initially came across this tour through basic travel blog research, but after booking, coincidentally had several friends take the tour between December 2019 and January 2020. All came away impressed.

Like many others, we opted for Bai Tu Long Bay rather than the more crowded Ha Long Bay. We felt like we got the full experience without missing out on any of the scenic vistas or local experiences that are associated with this region.

The staff were gracious and accommodating in every way. In particular, our travel host Long was a standout. His enthusiasm and energy was contagious. Right from the get-go before we boarded, he made us feel welcome by memorizing our first names. Such a simple touch, but it was compounded over the next 3 days by his easy wit, his mix of knowledge and jokes, and his willingness to go above and beyond at all times - even to the point of asking to take photos of us while we were kayaking or hiking, when he knew there was a particularly great vantage point. He sang to us, played the guitar and Hmong flute after dinner, did magic tricks, educated us about the region... he was a big part of what made the trip special.

Chef Dao was similarly eager to please. His meals were freshly prepared and the quality I would expect from a cruise of this type.

The room we had was quiet, secure, with great amenities. They actually exceeded our expectations and were very similar to what you might expect from a hotel. We used both the bath and the shower facilities over the 2 nights.

While on the boat, we participated in island kayaking, squid fishing, the Vung Vieng floating village tour, the hike/BBQ/beach lunch and the (optional) hot stone spa treatment. All were first class experiences. In particular, our time on the beach was worth calling out. The tour operator for Dragon Legend has a special status with the uninhabited island we visited since they apparently support the staff to maintain and clean the island. This meant that as guests of Dragon Legend, we were able to swim in a specially designated area. From reading other tour reviews, this sounds uncommon - most tours don't allow swimming in Bai Tu Long Bay at all.

I believe the overall experience was excellent and worthy of a 5 star designation. If I were to list some minor knocks, they would be:

- Most of the set menu dinners are slightly too large, with maybe 1-2 courses too many. They were delicious and flavorful, but just a bit too big in portions for us.

- The waiting area was a bit crowded before settling apart into the different tours.

The other thing to note is that our particular tour was not at full capacity. That made it feel particularly spacious and luxurious to us. It might have a slightly different feeling on a more full excursion.

Ha Long
Feb 2020 • Couples
A fantastic 2 night 3 day cruise on Ha Long with Dragon Legend! February is low season and it can be a little bit cold so bring warm clothes. We were 18 passengers instead of a full ship, 48 passengers. The room was clean and had big windows which gave a beautiful view the whole trip! Very nice and friendly staff and a awesome chef who made excellent food!
A special thanks to our awesome tour guide “Smiley”

Cruise met our expectations
Good cruise that met our expectations. Rooms were very nice, large with comfortable beds. Food was good and plentiful with multi course dinners that included lots of fish. I wouldn’t call it gourmet level but quite good. Tours were quite good especially the cave tour and kayaking. I believe your enjoyment of this tour is very weather dependent on the weather. It was cool and overcast for us but we were able to do all activities but couldn’t sit outside. Staff were also very good.
