I was picked up by George promptly at 6:00am in a very comfortable car. and we drove out to Mt Longonot. George was great company on the hike and offered both encouragement (it was fairly steep in places) and insights into the surrounding Flora and Fauna.

The hike itself is quite strenuous - I am pushing 60 however, but very doable! The views are fantastic. Once yo reach the rim you really have to go all the way round the crater, the views from the very top are amazing.

I skipped the Lake and boat trip as I had done this only a few days earlier - but George took me to a lovely restaurant for lunch on our return trip.

Can't say enough about George who made this a wonderful and memorable day!

Hello Keith, Thank you for taking time to write us a review of your experience with us. We are delighted to read that you had an amazing time at Mount Longonot and George, your driver guide did an excellent job. He is one of the best guides with vast knowledge on Flora and Fauna. This forms one of the many hiking trails and is a great plan for those who want to get way from the busy city and flex their muscles. To cap it all, we take clients to Lake Naivasha, where they have boat ride and enjoy the spectacular views. We would like to have you again in future as we explore other destinations.

I had a great day with a superb guide George.
The tour is recommendable for any out door fan. Its a good day tour hike with a beautiful view over the volcano and area.
some difficult sections have to be mastered and the intensity is not to be under-estimated but still a great hike for everyone in good fitness.

This is one of my favorite hikes that I've ever done. The views are incredible, and the terrain is challenging without being impossibly hard.

The mountain is about 1.5-2 hours from Nairobi, but even some of the views of the Great Rift Valley while driving to it are breathtaking. My guide, Shaddie, picked me up from my hotel right at 6:00 am. From there we proceeded to head to the mountain, with a quick stop en route at an overlook of the rift valley, where we were able to get some coffee at a roadside stand.

We arrived at the mountain and were ready to begin climbing by 8:00 am. It's about 3 KM (1.85 miles) to the top of the crater. From there it's 7 KM (~4.4 miles) around the crater, which includes a climb to the summit 2780 M (9120 feet). Then back down for a total climb of 13 KM (about 8 miles).

You do need to be in pretty good shape for the hike. This is partly because much of the climb to the top of the crater, as well as some of the approach to the summit, is quite steep. This is compounded by the fact that parts of the trail are heavily eroded, and can be quite slick, so good boots/shoes are a must. Additionally, much of the hike occurs at decent altitude - even at the start of the hike you're already above 2100 meters (~6890 feet), and you're only going up from there. I've done longer hikes before in the United States and elsewhere, but never to this altitude (highest peak I've climbed before this is New Hampshire's Mt. Washington, which is 1874 M or 6148 feet). I'm in decent to good shape, but I've also only ever lived at sea level and the altitude did present a challenge for me. There was some heavy breathing for a while in the thin air until I was able to adjust!

The views are worth the effort. The view into the crater is very cool, and then looking over the other side you are rewarded with an expansive view of the Great Rift Valley, as well as Lake Naivasha. If you're lucky, you'll also get to see some animals in the valley on your way up and back down. We saw impala, zebra, hartebeest, cape buffalo and giraffe that day.

The hike took slightly over 4 hours, which included a few stops for water and pictures. Afterwards, as part of this tour, you also have the ability to do a boat ride of Lake Naivasha for $20 USD. If the weather is nice I would recommend this as well, as it is a good way to relax after the long hike. The lake itself is beautiful, and you get to see many of the animals mentioned above, as well as hippos and a variety of birds as you go along the hour-long ride. You also have the ability to buy lunch at the restaurant on the lake.

My guide, Shaddie, was an awesome companion for the trip. And I enjoyed discussing the history and culture of Kenya with him on the way to the mountain, and he was very knowledgeable about the mountain and lake, as well as the animals at each location.

After the boat ride/lunch, we made our way back to Nairobi, and I was back at the hotel shortly before 5 pm.

This was one of the better trips/tours I've done on my various travels, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something a bit more physical to do in/around Nairobi!

I chose this tour based on the earlier excellent reviews of others. I was not disappointed. Our driver Paul was very courteous and drove safely within the context of Kenyan road conditions and traffc. The hiking experience was fantastic, hard work at times, with some very steep sections and the loose terrain being quite slippery, so decent walking shoes or boots are essential. Our hiking guide Julius was very experienced, knowing the region very well, recognising what was a manageable pace for us and enabling us to reach the summit. At nearly 9000 feet, the altitude is noticeable. You start at around 7000 feet, so there is a fair bit of climbing to be done. Overall hiking trip, with stops took us about 5 hours. Views of the crater and wider area are fantastic. Shame about the plastic bottles though! The boat trip on the lake was in a smallish 6 person boat with a knowledgable boatman - we saw several groups of hippos and plenty of wildlife and plenty of folk fishing. Lovely relaxing experience after the hike.

I had an amazing day hiking up and around Mt. Longonot and then a boat tour in Lake Naivasha. Our guide, Peter, was incredibly knowledgeable for such a young man, courteous and kind. George (the company's manager) was very prompt to reply my questions before the tour and so I definitely recommend this company for its reasonable price, punctuality and the pleasantness of the guide.

I loved this trip. If you are looking for a gilded safari where you follow lions around in a Land Rover Defender, look elsewhere. This day trip takes you to places where most the other visitors will be locals rather than tourists, and in the process will give you a more real African experience.
Longonot is a nice park. The trails are well maintained except immediately around the summit, where they are heavily eroded. So if you want to circumnavigate the crater, bring shoes with some traction. My guide was David, who is also a mountain guide on Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro. We had plenty of time to enjoy the wilderness and chat about routes on those larger peaks. Bring a camera, the views are very nice in all directions. We did the full loop, which comes out to about 13.5km.
The boat ride on Lake Naivasha costs an extra $25. If you like birds at all, it's a must do. Lake Naivasha has an amazing variety of birds and my guide Joseph was extremely knowledgeable about species and behaviors. We checked off 25 species on our one hour tour, including fish eagles, giant kingfishers, and three species of storks.
While you won't see any large predators between Longonot and Naivasha, you will get some tallies on your megafauna bingo card. We saw zebras, giraffes, water buffalo, water bucks, infinity hippos, wildebeests, impala, and gazelle.
So if you are wondering what to do with your extra day in Nairobi and you are up for some adventure, this is fun choice at a good value.

This is quite an expensive trip, and when we booked, it clearly said that there would be a photo-up at Great rift valley, a guided tour up and around Mt.Longonot, and a trip to Lake Naivasha with a boat ride. We were Looking forward to everything and everything started smoothly. We got picked up when we were supposed to, had an amazing trip up Mt. Longonot (amazing view). Then we got the message that the boat ride was not included. The site did not make this clear beforehand and the mail we got the day before our trip also stated that boat ride was a part of the inclusions. (The site has been changed after our mishap).

Our guide Albert was very nice and a good guide! He needs credit! But we would never have chosen this company again. Use someone cheaper, or better - get your own transport and hike it by yourself (it’s absolutely possible)!

Summary: Nice guide, but too expensive for just a hike (which is what you get).

Hello Normadi Thank you very much for this feedback . We are very happy you enjoyed the tour and that Albert was a great driver . The issue about overpricing is not what it seemed ,we have been taking visitors to the Longonot for a very long time ,The price is very moderate considering the services we offer ,the distance is also very far and we pay for entrance fee .The only thing that is part of the tour and is not paid for is the boat ride which is 20$ ,The driver Albert went a head and even lent the cash to you so that you would not miss it ,one of our staff members even called to explain more .We are very sorry if this inconvenienced you ,we will go ahead and change the program on the web. We do really hope you will visit us once again and we will gladly conduct the tour for you . Once again accept our apologies for these misunderstanding

We had a great day hiking Mount Longonot. It is hard work at times but it was worth it and the views were amazing. Shaddie was a terrific guide - he arrived on time to pick us up, he was really friendly and smiley all day long, he was chatty and easy to talk to, he was patient and walked at a pace we were comfortable with including stopping for rests, and he carried my bag up the mountain when I became tired. Highly recommended.
