Overview
Unwrap the rich culinary secrets of Singapore’s Chinatown on this 3.5-hour walking tour of its hawker centers and streets. With a guide to showcase Singapore’s most authentic treats, browse the Chinatown Complex to try Singaporean chicken rice, ‘poh piah’ (fresh spring rolls) and other goodies, complemented by delectable sugar cane juice. Sip on ‘pulled’ tea and discover Chinatown’s melting pot of culinary and cultural influences as you explore this endlessly diverse district. Numbers are limited to 12 people to ensure personalized attention from your guide.
Highlights
  • Travel with a guide, so you won’t get lost in the hawker center
  • Experience how food and culture intersect in Singapore
  • Explore both the hawker center—one of Singapore’s largest—and Chinatown
  • Good value, as tour includes all food specified in the itinerary
What to Expect
Your walking food tour begins in Chinatown, where you’ll meet your guide inside the Chinatown MRT station at Exit A. Make your first stop at Chinatown Complex, one of Singapore’s largest hawker centers, food markets that sell local specialties. Your guide takes you through the complex of stalls to find some of the most coveted dishes, including poh piah spring rolls and Singaporean chicken rice. Hear insights into the local cuisine from your guide as you eat together. Next, explore Chinatown while your guide tells you about the neighborhood’s early immigrants. Visit temples and mosques, and make a stop at the Urban Redevelopment Authority Gallery, where you’ll learn about Singapore’s transition from a fishing village to cosmopolitan center. After a sample of kopi tarik—frothy coffee or tea with condensed milk—return to the original starting point, where the tour ends.

This tour provided food that locals eat on a daily basis. But above that, our tour guide provided extensive information on the culture, economy, government, military, and geography of Singapore. Very much appreciated!

Great sight on bridge street when you exit the MRT.lots of colour. Street food is a little hard to handle in the humidity but cold drink is always on hand. The heritage centre is interesting. The markets in back can be a miss.

Maybe? There were side stops in Chinatown in addition to the hawker center that required negotiating the traffic and heat. On a positive note, Rene, the guide, is very accommodating of his guests! The tour itself was... More

Hi KWTodd. Alcohol was not included with this tour the two times I have done it. However, many of the hawker stalls serve beer for purchase. Beer in Singapore averages 8-15 SGD per beer. Just be sure to have cash on hand as... More
