Though undeniably beautiful, the Embalse El Yeso reservoir in Cajon del Maipo is notoriously difficult to access. Visit as part of a guided tour from Santiago to let an experienced driver handle the pot-holed road while you admire spectacular views of the Andes Mountains. This small-group tour is limited to just 13 people or fewer—the perfect size for enjoying your picnic lunch and a bottle of wine upon arrival.

What to Expect
Begin your tour to Cajon del Maipo with pickup from your central Santiago hotel or alternative pickup point. Then, look out at the scenery as your driver safely makes the drive out of the city to Cajon del Maipo, at the base of the Andes. Pass small towns and through Tinoco Tunnel to catch views of the Andes Mountains. Then, stop at the stunningly blue Embalse El Yeso reservoir for a picnic lunch accompanied by wine. Spend free time chatting with your small group of 13 or fewer and taking photos of the view. Return to Santiago at the end of your tour.

The guide and driver were great. The picnic was OK too. But I do think the stop in SanJose or something like that was not necessary. Maybe you could have taken us to a nicer place for lunch or straight back to the hotel.

Great day with opportunity to see and hike around artificial lake created by glacier waters. Lovely picnic. However, this a light meal. You may want to bring or buy extra food. Our driver Aquil was amazing. Got us through several tight spots.

After leaving the hotel at 6:20 in the morning we picked some other guests and drove with a stop to the beautiful lake in 2500m above ground. There we had a picknick with wine and cheese and salami. We also saw a waterfall and a glacier in the distance. On the way back we
