I did a 4 day / 3 night trek with Bamba. The Inca Trail was washed out because of rain so they offered me an alternate route (Inca Quarry trek) which was fantastic. I particularly liked it because of the lack of people. On day 2, we didn’t see anyone hiking.

Diego was our guide and this guy is the real deal. I started peppering him with questions as soon as the trek started to test his Inca knowledge. I had read one book (last days of the Incas) before the trip and so I was obviously now an Inca expert.

Turns out, Diego is a human encyclopedia when it comes to Inca history, Andean plants and animals, and many other subjects. He made the trek highly informative and comfortable for our group - always making sure we had everything we needed while hiking and once we reached camp. Can’t recommend him enough.

Our chef, Victór, deserves a separate review altogether. That guy is fantastic and made us feel like we were dining in a 5 star restaurant while in the middle of the mountains.

Only reason for 4 / 5 stars is because my temporary guide (not Diego) never showed up at the Machu Picchu checkpoint after I finished Huayna Picchu. I called Bamba and they sorted it out eventually, but I had to start 1 hour late.

Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was my girlfriend’s top bucket list item. Therefore, she did an extensive research on which tour company to use. She finally settled on Bamba Experience based on the reviews and the value of the package. We ended up going with the Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu 4D/3N Complete package in the last week of Oct.

They exceeded all my expectations!!! Let me rephrase: the guides, Diego and William, the cook (I can’t remember his name), and the porters are absolutely amazing!!! Let me start with Diego, the head guide. His in-depth knowledge of the Inca history was so vast. He wasn’t just spouting memorized facts, he intimately understood the subject matter. He’s a bonafide Inca historian. Not only is he a very smart person, he’s also a very caring and patient person. Because of my bad knees, when it came to going downhill, I was generally the slowest person in our group. He and William would alternate covering the front and rear of the group. There was never a time where I felt rushed to move faster. He told me to take my time and take it slow and that there was no rush. He made me feel safe. He was extremely patient. I truly appreciated it so much. The other guide, William, was awesome also. He showed the same care and patient that Diego did. On the last day of the hike I had a stomach bug and it was a serious struggle. I was dehydrated because I couldn’t keep fluids down. I’m so glad I had both Diego and William by my side to help me make it to Machu Picchu. William even offered to carry my backpack but I declined. His generous offer gave me that extra push.

Let me tell you about the food!!! Everything was delicious!!! There was no shortage of food. We had seconds and sometimes thirds. There was not a dish that we disliked. Everything was fantastic. What’s even more amazing is that the cook made a cake for us on the last day!!

Lastly, I have to give props to the porters. They did it all. Carried our tents, sleeping bags, mattresses, and 7kg of our person items. They are superhuman. They would setup our tents before we made it to the campsite. Then the next morning after we left the campsite, they would breakdown everything down, pack up everything, beat us to the next campsite and repeat the cycle. They are incredible!!

As you can tell, my girlfriend and I are extremely pleased with the service provided by Bamba Experience. They definitely hire the best people. We are looking at doing another tour with them in the future. Possibly Bhutan.

I hope this review helps you in your decision. You will not be disappointed. I read some of the bad reviews. I don’t understand what went wrong. There has to have been a miscommunication or something because I never had an issue communicating with them. Especially through emails. They quickly responded to each and every inquiry.

One last question, what other tours does Diego do for you all? I would love to have him as my guide in the future if possible.

I travelled the 4 day Machu Pichu Inca Trail with a group of 3 (24yr olds) in mid January and were joined by another Australian couple. The group also included 6 porters and a chef, who were all lovely and friendly. Our Chef Victoriano was absolutely brilliant, cooking 3 course meals that were amazingly well done.

Our tour guide Pepe was full of knowledge and was very accomodating to everyone, his sense of humour and understanding of not only the trail but of the Peruvian culture was outstanding.

Amazing way of experiencing Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, would 100% recommend for anyone.

Thanks!

I did the 4 day trek to Machu Picchu and it was an amazing experience. We had a really good guide, named Diego. He knew everything about fauna and flora and of course (the most important part) the Inca's. He supported us if we had a hard time during the hiking. The food was also really good. The chef was the best! I'll never forget this experience thanks to the guide, chef and of course the porters! It's the only way to experience Machu Picchu the fullest.

We are a young couple from Hong Kong. We joined the Bamba experience and thanks Cesar took us for the 4 days 3 nights adventure through the Inca Quarry Trail. The trek is not too difficult when compared with the classic one but the views are nice and we can camp under the galaxy for 2 nights!! The food are fresh and you will have plenty of times to take an afternoon nap. After 2 days of hike, finally we can recharge both physically by taking a shower in the hotel and all the electronic devices.

Thanks the tour guide Cesar not just showed us the history along the Inca Trail, he also showed us around in AC town and the more info about Peru. His detailed explanation of Machu Picchu really helped me learnt a lot!

Overall, it is a very good experience in Peru and thanks Bamba for the professionalism. Thanks Cesar and the chef, the horseman!!

Where to start!! Okay at the beginning.
Firstly, our driver/shuttle from the airport didn't arrive... not a great start.
Eventually we got in a taxi and decided to get there ourselves. Ended up at the wrong hotel before finally getting sorted and settled in at the Amarinka Boutique Hotel.
I was super nervous about the trek as I am a little unfit and hadn't done much (any) training for the walk. At the briefing at the Bamba office the staff were so firnedly and offered us heaps of Coca Tea and we met our guide. Enter Junior...
Junior immediately made us feel better about the trek and we started getting really excited despite the 4am pick up the next day.
Day 1: Pick up fro the hotel and driven out to a cute wee town to begin the hike. We are introduced to the rest of our crew.
Celiaco - The chef - He cooked the most AMAZING FOOD the whole way through the trek, we were so spoiled and had some of the best food in our whole time in Peru.
Willianson - The Assistant Chef - really nice guy and obviously played a massive part in getting us fed (3 course meals 3x a day!!)
Adison - Horseman - such a hard worker lugging our sleeping gear over the whole trip.
Anyway - Team was excellent.
Trek was amazing - recommend this trek over Inca Trail for the quietness and less 'touristy' vibe.
Trek was SUPER HARD!! but through the altitude, sweat, snow, sickness and general unfitness, this was the most rewarding and positive experience I have ever had.
Back to Junior - he was so passionate about Peru and super knowledgeable about the flora/fauna/history. He was really motivational and just a general good guy - safe to say that the whole experience was made 100% better with him here.
Lots of cool sites, steep hills, good food, playing cards, laughing and fun.
The shuttle back to the airport never showed up either, but that could never damped the experience because it was just that good!!

I'm going to do my best to keep this short. This trip was incredible and has to be the most rewarding way to see Machu Picchu. Getting a chance to see all of the ruins and mountains along the way was incredible. Our guide (Francisco) was incredibly knowledgeable about Incan history and would stop us along the trail to give us lessons about the ruins/trails/mountains/culture. I did not see other groups getting the thorough sit-down history lessons that we received.

Other positives:
We ate like royalty. The provided food was fantastic, fresh and always different. They even catered to our friend that was a vegetarian.
They were super helpful and really made sure everyone got through the hike and did their best to help treat any issues people were having with the altitude.
Everything was really well organized. They will pick you up in Cusco and book all of your tickets for you to get back.

Seriously go on this trip. And make sure to contact them to see when Francisco is working. He is super knowledgeable, funny and speaks great English!

We loved the inca trail. We were with a group of 3 people and had 4 porters (including cook and waiter) and a tourguide named Percy. Everything was taken care off, no worries for us on the trail at all. Percy s english was good, the cook could start his own restaurant and the porters are working so hard (and are so friendly). We booked through machete tours but the contact was not good with them. But when the tour started everything was perfect.

Exceeded my expectations. I’ve done treks in Colombia, New Zealand, and other amazing parts of the world. This one really stood out just because we were rewarded everyday with amazing views and of course the last day with Machu Picchu. Also, Victoriano was the best cook ever and shoutout to my man Chino (Vidal) for being a professional, fun, and helpful tour guide.

Such an amazing experience.

Vidal and Sergio guided us through the Inca trail over four days; sharing history of the Inca culture, keeping us safe and making the experience unforgettable. At each stop we had tents and food waiting for us thanks to the hard working Porters and chef, Victoriano.
Living conditions were great, more than enough food and of course Machu Picchu!

Thanks again Vidal and Sergio!
