We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Split and Trogir. With a day off of a cruise ship, we had a walking tour to learn about the interesting history of Split's walled city with century's of history. After a short break, we continued onto Trogir. A lovely walled town where we visited the Cathedral of St.Lawrence and had the opportunity to climb the bell tower with a beautiful view over this charming town. With free time, we were able to explore the town, enjoy a gelato and shop.

The walking tour was very interesting with a very amusing (incredibly tall!) guide who was part of the yellow shirt/ yellow umbrella tour company. There were options for a longer tour but we didn’t have time and it was also nice to wander around n our own afterwards. Tour cost €14 per person.

I usually prefer to be on my own but this walking tour was really helpful and interesting. It gave me a good lay of the land so that I could explore more of the Palace area on my own afterwards. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The group wasn't too big, about 15 people. There was a short performance of traditional Dalmatian singing within the ruins which was a nice surprise. I didn't opt for the Trogir portion.

We booked this through Viator (EuroAdriaTours) and were disappointed. Not in the palace itself, which is amazing, but in our tour/guide. The tour only lasted 1 hr, 15 minutes, which was not enough, and our guide was not very interesting. I have done 20+ tours all over Europe and this one was near the bottom of the list. Too many facts without any context, no “color” or effort to bring the palace ruins to life. She also did not seem interested in answering any questions or doing anything other than rushing through it and regurgitating facts. Part of the problem may have been that we got put in a group of 10 where the other 6 people were from a cruise and seemed to be in a rush so our guide seemed to rush through the tour. The information also seemed dumbed down, which I am not sure if it was because our guide was new (or just bad), her English was good but not great, cruise people are less sophisticated and dumb it down for everyone or we were on a time limit, or maybe a combination of all of the above. My recommendation would be if you are very interested in seeing and learning about the palace and having a more personalized experience to book a private or smaller group tour, not this one. I would also recommend finding a tour that includes the basement underneath the palace in your tour, we did it on our own and it was fine but it would be good to have a guide.

Our guide was Darko and he was a very good and informative, gave the history of the Palace from Roman times until today. If I hadn't done the tour it would have been difficult to know what you were looking at. Would highly recommend this tour.
