- navalants0 contributionsFascinating experience at Lenggong Valley9 March 2023 6.20am in the morning, John picked us at Kinta Riverside Hotel. We bit the morning traffic and arrived Lenggong Valley at around 7.30am for a coffee shop breakfast. We were then proceed to our UNESCO Archaeological Heritage tour. The heritage tour guide could not speak much other languages except Malay. John assisted in translation and provided additional insight and helped our senior folks to complete the adventure. We were told tha our 73 year old participant was the oldest that the tour had ever received! John took us to Kuala Kangsar for lunch and visited the royal town of Perak before heading back to hotel. We thanked John for his friendliness, patience and professionalism.Written 12 March 2023
- rayyeo880 contributionsAwesome 1-day Private TourWe had a great time in the 1-day private tour led by John, our tour guide, visiting Ipoh old town, beautiful limestone caves, and the ionic Kellie's Castle. John was friendly and helpful throughout, sharing his knowledge on the history and culture of the various attractions and helping us take many photos throughout the day. Overall, it was an awesome experience and we highly recommend John as your tour guide for your next trip to Ipoh!Written 19 December 2022
- SQ8300 contributionsAwesome experienceWe booked a last minute four days tour package with Ipoh Secrets because we were travelling with young children that required customised itinerary. This turned out to be the best decision for our family trip! John, our assigned tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful and accommodating. Words cannot express our appreciation and satisfaction and I would highly recommend John and Ipoh Secrets to anyone who’s keen to explore Ipoh and Perak area.Written 7 December 2022
- Jarboretum210 contributionsPrivate Tour Cameron Highlands Day TripIpoh Secrets were fantastic on our recent visit to Ipoh when we decided to book a last minute trip to the Cameron Highlands. We were told that due to our last minute booking we would just have a driver and not a guide, but it ended up that John, our driver, was a fantastic tour guide! He was really professional and knowledgeable, we really enjoyed his insights as an Ipoh local and he was also easy to get along with. He knew all the best photo spots and even gave us a list of coffee places to try! It was also very reasonable price-wise and flexible with what we wanted to do. We would definitely use Ipoh Secrets again!Written 3 November 2022
- djmcd330 contributionsIpoh SecretsJohn was a very friendly, knowledgeable guy, relaxed and accommodating of our requests to adjust our itinerary. Hw also advised about local food. Our vehicle was spacious, comfortable and cool. John’s driving was very smooth and we felt safe. We had a great afternoon exploring the cave temples and Kellie’s castle on our first afternoon in Ipoh. I would strongly recommend this tour companyWritten 14 February 2020
- sgayanami000 contributionsEnjoyable, informative and non-rushing tourThe tour is a slow paced, informative and enjoyable tour, full of walks to various famous sights of Ipoh City. Through the tour, the guide John gave us inside information of the city, through the years and with his experience as a local. Using his car to ferry us in between sites, he also gave us tips and tricks of how locals move and operate in the city. The group is small enough for John to individually answer questions should any arise. Recommended for those who love walking, interacting with non locals in a small group setting, and wanting to know the little secrets this city has to offer through a local!Written 30 January 2020
- SueL20120 contributionsTour of Ipoh and Taiping including Kuala SepetangWe were so glad we managed to book 2 tours with Ipoh Secrets quite close to our trip. John our guide/driver was very good. Took us to great eating and coffee places both in Ipoh and in Taiping. Had a couple of interesting tours, the charcoal and josstick factories. John was good in explaining the process to us. The itineraries were left to John to decide and we were very happy with his planning.Written 1 January 2020
- LLTan0 contributionsEnjoyable & Informative TourWe spent a full day visiting many interesting places around Ipoh with John. He was very informative & accommodating. The tour has everything: Culture, History, Architecture, Food ... Besides the usual tourists spots, John brought us to a local coffee shop for lunch & a 'roadside store' for the best bean curd we have ever tasted! Very Good-Value-for Money!Written 22 December 2019
- plus8280 contributionsHighly recommended!Day well spent to know Ipoh better. My family and I greatly enjoyed the well-planned, well-researched, and well-paced itinerary. John is an outstanding guide - thoughtful, knowledgeable and a great communicator. Kudos to the team!Written 19 December 2019
- 355helen0 contributionsA really enjoyable tour of Ipoh and surroundsI didn't realise how many fabulous things there were to see around Ipoh until we went on this tour. It is a really efficient way to see a lot of different places. Our guide John was very knowledgeable and happy to spend as much time in each location as the group wanted. We packed a lot into this day and learned so much about Ipoh and Malaysian culture. I thought it was very good value for money and John was an excellent and very accommodating guide. I would highly recommend Ipoh Secrets Full Day Heritage Tour.Written 15 November 2019

- jeanniedc0 contributionsFun day in IpohWe spent a great day with Simon exploring Ipoh and the surrounding areas. Simon was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history of this area. He was attentive and sensitive to both our time needs (we did this as a day trip from KL), and our dietary needs (we aren’t super adventurous with street food). We learned all about white coffee and some other local dishes. He was great about taking pictures of us throughout the day. Because this was a private tour, we could customize our itinerary, and Simon was very flexible. He’s also a super nice guy to spend time with.Written 26 October 2019

I've been to Ipoh lots of times for food. So this is the first time I've availed a tour to get to know Ipoh on a different light! Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and give details that only locals will know. he brings us to places that we usually passed by but he have insights that we've never known before... yet he says "can google lah". He also took us to restaurants that serves good food but really affordable. Told us interesting stories about places and spots. And he got good sense to manage our tour time well.
Highly recommended tour and guide for Ipoh!

Hahaha, yes can Google... if you let me continue my story mode, the Heritage Tour part will take up the whole day!!! For those who're interested, it's about the assassination of Mr. Birch and the multiverse, the story of Ipoh version of "What If...?"
Well history is full of interesting bits that lead you further down the rabbit hole...

We visited Ipoh for 3 days travelling up from KL on the train. Having done a bit of initial exploring on our own we were pleased to sign up for the Ipoh Secrets day tour. Our guide was John who met us at our hotel to get underway at 8am. We had opted to go to Gua Tempurung cave so went off there first with breakfast on the way in a small local cafe. The tour included
visits to museums, temples, historic sites and a city walking tour. John acted as the driver and was an excellent guide at each stop. He helped particularly with the history of tin mining in the Ipoh area and many historical details of Ipoh's development and provided useful insights into the lives of the 19th & early 20th century inhabitants of Ipoh. If you want to see Ipoh in more detail I would recommend the Ipoh Secrets tour and would like to thank John for making it such a great trip.

A friend and I have just spent 4 days in Ipoh, one day was with John an a tour of Ipoh and its surrounds. We had come up to Ipoh by bus from Singapore the day before (10 hours!) so were quite tired the next day, However John tailored the tour to suits our needs beginning with a later breakfast than planned at a very good local restaurant. He is a fund of information about Ipoh which is close to his heart!
As well he assisted me with the bookings for our hotel and bus which was very helpful so far away in NZ. Ipoh Secrets is obviously well known in Ipoh and has a very good reputation; the mere mention of Ipoh Secrets opened doors!
Arlene House is worth a visit for the beautifully restored rooms and their content as was the shopping Made in Ipoh. Papan's forgotten shophouses were interesting, a ghost town now.
There is so much to discover in Ipoh....there is so much more than we expected.
Do contact Ipoh Secrets for a personlised tour with John! Kind regards Lyn

Booked a full day heritage tour from Ipoh Secret on 15 Mar 23. We had John as our guide for the day.
Overall experience was very good. John was very knowledgeable in explaining the history during the guided tour. (The kids really learnt a lot) We went to places such as Kellie Castle, Ho Yat Ho Museum, and Concubine Lane. John was also helpful in sourcing the perfect place for our meals. Love the Yong Tau Foo.
John went an extra mile in helping us sourced for a less crowded breakfast place for the next day, which we really appreciated.
Please keep up the good work buddy!

A great experience, relaxed, interesting, and totally flexible to our schedule. Felt like spending a day being shown around a friend’s hometown, going to many places we wouldn’t have found on our own. John was very patient with our two kids also, and they really enjoyed the day.

It was a last minute decision to take up this pte heritage tour, and we were glad we did. Our guide was Simon. He was pleasant, polite, patient and was flexible enough to adcede to the change in itinerary. Due to expected thunderstorm in the afternoon, we requested to do swap the morning old town tour with the afternoon caves tour. The tour went smoothly. The caves were beautiful, esp like the Kek Lok Tong cave. Due to Qingming Jie, we went to Perak cave instead. Lunch was at a buzzy unpretentious coffee shop for an absolutely delicious Yong Tau Foo lunch. We decided take a cursory look at Kellie Castle from outside, and then proceeded to Pomelo plantation, an extra "complimentary" stop! Afternoon was a quick run in the rain through the old town. Highly rec this tour to provide a quick overview of Ipoh's key attractions!

Informative tour and very enjoyable. We love the tin mining history John shared with us, including how the old opera house and nearby ‘entertainment’ outlets in the old town were patronized by the coolies. Instead of Kellie Castle, we explored the cave at Gua Tempurung and John was our expert tour guide, pointing out the various highlights, and recommending the appropriate tour for us. He even took us to the last remaining bakery that bakes charcoal fire Heong Beh (unfortunately, you need to Pre order before they bake these special biscuits), as well as another bakery where we purchased yummy kaya puffs, salted egg buns and specialty moon cakes. He also gave us recommendations of food courts for our dinner that day. I think we achieved a lot in our 1-day tour. Just tell John what you want to see and do, and he would try to manage the itinerary. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful time with our tour guide Dev. After a rough start (we slept in and didn’t hear our alarm — Dev was so nice to wait on us for 2 hrs!!!), we visited a pomelo farm, cave temples, Kellie’s Castle, the old town of Ipoh (really enjoyed a stop to try the famous Ipoh’s white coffee).
He explained a lot about Malaysian culture and customs.
Thank you Dev we will always remember you ❤️
