- staceym29800Fantastic experienceIpoh Secrets are fantastic! We were visiting from Australia and they helped us out with last minute bookings twice. We had a terrific experience both times. Easy, fast and helpful booking. Ipoh Secrets, thank you for helping us have a wonderful holiday.
- Yu-Mei C00Heritage tour 11/5/23Highly recommend the Full Heritage Day Tour . Our guide John brought us to local eateries and imparted a lot of interesting and fun facts on Ipoh’s history and culture . Covered all the main sights I’ve been wanting to see .Bonus was the biscuit outlet and pomelo shopping
- navalants00Fascinating experience at Lenggong Valley9 March 2023 6.20am in the morning, John picked us at Kinta Riverside Hotel. We bit the morning traffic and arrived Lenggong Valley at around 7.30am for a coffee shop breakfast. We were then proceed to our UNESCO Archaeological Heritage tour. The heritage tour guide could not speak much other languages except Malay. John assisted in translation and provided additional insight and helped our senior folks to complete the adventure. We were told tha our 73 year old participant was the oldest that the tour had ever received! John took us to Kuala Kangsar for lunch and visited the royal town of Perak before heading back to hotel. We thanked John for his friendliness, patience and professionalism.
- rayyeo8800Awesome 1-day Private TourWe had a great time in the 1-day private tour led by John, our tour guide, visiting Ipoh old town, beautiful limestone caves, and the ionic Kellie's Castle. John was friendly and helpful throughout, sharing his knowledge on the history and culture of the various attractions and helping us take many photos throughout the day. Overall, it was an awesome experience and we highly recommend John as your tour guide for your next trip to Ipoh!
- SQ83000Awesome experienceWe booked a last minute four days tour package with Ipoh Secrets because we were travelling with young children that required customised itinerary. This turned out to be the best decision for our family trip! John, our assigned tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful and accommodating. Words cannot express our appreciation and satisfaction and I would highly recommend John and Ipoh Secrets to anyone who’s keen to explore Ipoh and Perak area.
- Jarboretum2100Private Tour Cameron Highlands Day TripIpoh Secrets were fantastic on our recent visit to Ipoh when we decided to book a last minute trip to the Cameron Highlands. We were told that due to our last minute booking we would just have a driver and not a guide, but it ended up that John, our driver, was a fantastic tour guide! He was really professional and knowledgeable, we really enjoyed his insights as an Ipoh local and he was also easy to get along with. He knew all the best photo spots and even gave us a list of coffee places to try! It was also very reasonable price-wise and flexible with what we wanted to do. We would definitely use Ipoh Secrets again!
- djmcd3300Ipoh SecretsJohn was a very friendly, knowledgeable guy, relaxed and accommodating of our requests to adjust our itinerary. Hw also advised about local food. Our vehicle was spacious, comfortable and cool. John’s driving was very smooth and we felt safe. We had a great afternoon exploring the cave temples and Kellie’s castle on our first afternoon in Ipoh. I would strongly recommend this tour company
- sgayanami0000Enjoyable, informative and non-rushing tourThe tour is a slow paced, informative and enjoyable tour, full of walks to various famous sights of Ipoh City. Through the tour, the guide John gave us inside information of the city, through the years and with his experience as a local. Using his car to ferry us in between sites, he also gave us tips and tricks of how locals move and operate in the city. The group is small enough for John to individually answer questions should any arise. Recommended for those who love walking, interacting with non locals in a small group setting, and wanting to know the little secrets this city has to offer through a local!
- SueL201200Tour of Ipoh and Taiping including Kuala SepetangWe were so glad we managed to book 2 tours with Ipoh Secrets quite close to our trip. John our guide/driver was very good. Took us to great eating and coffee places both in Ipoh and in Taiping. Had a couple of interesting tours, the charcoal and josstick factories. John was good in explaining the process to us. The itineraries were left to John to decide and we were very happy with his planning.
- LLTan00Enjoyable & Informative TourWe spent a full day visiting many interesting places around Ipoh with John. He was very informative & accommodating. The tour has everything: Culture, History, Architecture, Food ... Besides the usual tourists spots, John brought us to a local coffee shop for lunch & a 'roadside store' for the best bean curd we have ever tasted! Very Good-Value-for Money!
- plus82800Highly recommended!Day well spent to know Ipoh better. My family and I greatly enjoyed the well-planned, well-researched, and well-paced itinerary. John is an outstanding guide - thoughtful, knowledgeable and a great communicator. Kudos to the team!
- 355helen00A really enjoyable tour of Ipoh and surroundsI didn't realise how many fabulous things there were to see around Ipoh until we went on this tour. It is a really efficient way to see a lot of different places. Our guide John was very knowledgeable and happy to spend as much time in each location as the group wanted. We packed a lot into this day and learned so much about Ipoh and Malaysian culture. I thought it was very good value for money and John was an excellent and very accommodating guide. I would highly recommend Ipoh Secrets Full Day Heritage Tour.
- maruguchi12300Cameron highland transferDriver syam is nice to drive to Cameron highland from Ipoh. Very safe and have good manner. Ipoh secret have good quality of staff.
- jeanniedc00Fun day in IpohWe spent a great day with Simon exploring Ipoh and the surrounding areas. Simon was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history of this area. He was attentive and sensitive to both our time needs (we did this as a day trip from KL), and our dietary needs (we aren’t super adventurous with street food). We learned all about white coffee and some other local dishes. He was great about taking pictures of us throughout the day. Because this was a private tour, we could customize our itinerary, and Simon was very flexible. He’s also a super nice guy to spend time with.
- 370dawnel00Fantastic tour!I highly recommend this full day tour which is very interesting and good value. It is jam-packed full of numerous things to see and do in and around Ipoh. Despite the long list of places we visited in this tour, you never felt rushed; John, our guide, was happy to stay at each place as long as we liked. It was also nice to get out of Ipoh and see some of the spectacular scenery. The temple caves were magnificent & Kelly’s castle remarkable. John was informative and kind, and happy to vary aspects of the tour depending on our interests. In fact he was so kind and generous with his time, the tour ran well over. This was a small group tour but we felt like it was a private tour. The car was comfortable - looked brand new in fact; complete luxury. John also introduced us to different food and drinks and took us to out-of-the-way spots to get the best biscuits and white Ipoh coffee. We even tried some coconut wine with our lunch in another off-the beaten-track local restaurant. Can’t recommend this tour enough! Thank you John!

It was a last minute decision to take up this pte heritage tour, and we were glad we did. Our guide was Simon. He was pleasant, polite, patient and was flexible enough to adcede to the change in itinerary. Due to expected thunderstorm in the afternoon, we requested to do swap the morning old town tour with the afternoon caves tour. The tour went smoothly. The caves were beautiful, esp like the Kek Lok Tong cave. Due to Qingming Jie, we went to Perak cave instead. Lunch was at a buzzy unpretentious coffee shop for an absolutely delicious Yong Tau Foo lunch. We decided take a cursory look at Kellie Castle from outside, and then proceeded to Pomelo plantation, an extra "complimentary" stop! Afternoon was a quick run in the rain through the old town. Highly rec this tour to provide a quick overview of Ipoh's key attractions!

Informative tour and very enjoyable. We love the tin mining history John shared with us, including how the old opera house and nearby ‘entertainment’ outlets in the old town were patronized by the coolies. Instead of Kellie Castle, we explored the cave at Gua Tempurung and John was our expert tour guide, pointing out the various highlights, and recommending the appropriate tour for us. He even took us to the last remaining bakery that bakes charcoal fire Heong Beh (unfortunately, you need to Pre order before they bake these special biscuits), as well as another bakery where we purchased yummy kaya puffs, salted egg buns and specialty moon cakes. He also gave us recommendations of food courts for our dinner that day. I think we achieved a lot in our 1-day tour. Just tell John what you want to see and do, and he would try to manage the itinerary. Highly recommended!

My family had a great time touring with John - we would never have seen and learnt so much without his help. He spoke excellent English and was great with our two boys, aged 10 and 12.
For our first trip John picked us up from our hotel in Penang and drove us to the Oran Utan Sactuary. Whilst it looks like the animals are caged it was actually us in a cage and the animals were free to roam the island. It was nice to see these beautiful creatures. John then drove us to Taiping where we visited the botanic gardens, had lunch in a local food court, visited the coffee mill (had lots of tastings here), museum, coal factory and joss stick factory. We then finished the day at the fisherman's village where John helped us order a beautiful seafood meal and we watched the sun set over the water. John then drove us to our hotel in Ipoh. It was a great day!
For our second trip John picked us up from our hotel in Ipoh and we did the Secrets of Ipoh tour. We went to the old town first which was very beautiful, we also visited temples inside of caves which were amazing, we had lunch at a local restaurant and it was one of the best meals we had. We then visited Kellies Castle which was surprisingly interesting and a local orchard before heading back to our hotel.
The next day John drove us to Kuala Lumpur for our flight home.
All of John's services were fantastic, he was very prompt and also flexible when we needed to change days/times. He was so helpful and we were grateful for his services. I would definitely recommend a trip to Ipoh and traveling with John :)

We booked our Ipoh Historical Tour at Viator, weeks before we flew to KL (continued with land-ride to Ipoh). Very soon afterwards, we got an email from John Lee, informing that our tour-order would be organized by Ipoh Secrets. We were picked up (promptly as promised) by John Lee at the lobby of our hotel in Meru and were driven to Ipoh old town, as the 1st itinerary in our list. John parked his car at a big square, I forget the name of the square, but we were surrounded by old historical buildings (one of them is Old Town coffee's first office, the other is HSBC, etc) and at one corner we could see grey doves were flying and also the artistic murals. We continued our walk to the train station (it was a hospital once), then the Birch tower, and the concubine lane. It was a very interesting walk. The day was warm, the sky was very blue, our guide was very informative and friendly. We also visited the herbal tea museum and tasted 3 kinds of warm-energizing herbal tea.
Our other destinations were: the temple-cave (it was kind of carved on the cliffs, very unique indeed with the turtles as additional attraction ), the Kek Lok Tong cave (where you could see the stallagtites), Kellie's castle (the famous movie set), and the unforgettable-very delicious lunch (at Warung Laksa Telur Goreng Bersarang). Do I forget something?
Overall, we are very satisfied with Ipoh Secret Tours, and also many thanks to our kind and smart guide: John Lee.

We had 2 half day private tours with John of Ipoh Secrets. As this was a homecoming trip for us, we had given John a list of places of personal interest and he managed to track them down and organised 2 wonderful tours incorporating the must-see places and our personal requests. He ferried us around in a comfortable and spacious MPV and gave us information that only a local would know. He was also very patient, allowing us time to reminisce in places that were meaningful to us.
Best of all, he brought us to places where locals eat, so we got to taste the authentic Ipoh cuisine in the genuine environment.
Highly recommended!

It is my pleasure to bring you all around! Without this trip, I would not venture to the street named after the first non-Malay to be awarded the title of Dato, no idea what Ayamas in downtown used to be, and a chance to know more about Ipoh 50 years ago! Thank You!!
