This place is wonderful! An interactive lesson in the richness of the past, history seen through the lens of music. We had 5 children with us, between the ages of 9-12 and they all agreed it was cool and interesting and were kept engaged for a good 2 hours. It was nice to speak to them after and listen to the things that especially captured their attention. The treasure hunt in the end was genius! Thank you Penang House of Music for a great initiative.

I went here with my mum and the place was excellent. The staff new their history and the displays were all thoroughly researched. We could take as many photos as we wanted and we learnt a lot of things about the history of music in Penang. A great place to visit for people who love music and history.

Awesome experience! It's not only music but you also get a sense of Malaysian history. It's interactive, you can play instruments, read books, play vinyls. Tour guide Joyce was awesome and provided a lot of information and interesting facts.
Definitely a recommendation while in George Town. Not only for music nerds. :)

My sister chosen this place as it will be a nice expierance to get to know Malaysian music. We did not regret it. We had a lot of fun we stayed for 2 hour there. Of only the place was about to close we probably stayed longer.

Loved the host, I also received my own personal tour of the museum and learnt a lot about the varying cultures of music that was brought to Penang through the many people that came and settled or stayed there for a while and left their musical influences. Lots of cool artifacts as well- I ended up here as it had started raining and I needed to do something indoors! Definitely recommend for something unique and cool!

Great place to spend a few hours, learning about the cultural influences that have shaped the island's music, over many years. It shows how the melting pot of nationalities have really blended together to form what is seen or heard today. Had our own guide for the few hours that we were there (thanks Joyce for your information). Got to meet a number of the staff, and it was easy to see their enthusiasm, and dedication to their passion. Well worth spending time here, as it was also very interactive. Highlight was meeting the guy that fashioned working guitars out of the most unusual things, e.g. squash racquets and parts off cars. had a fabulous time.

I came with a group of students on an assignment, but the pleasant space and warm and friendly tour guide made it less of an assignment and more of an enjoyable activity.

The exhibition were really interesting, and almost all the exhibition was very hands on, a far cry from the usual passive mode we get into whenever we visit a museum, which was a breath of fresh air. You know when you enter a music shop and you can't touch anything? Over here, do as you will. Your kids are going to love this!

For those who do want to study the history of Malaysian music (for academic purposes I mean), there's a corner in the back just for you, with an extensive library that you can crack into for all your research needs.

10 outta 10 will come again.
