I would recommend this to any age group with any experience level. The two lead men were fabulous and attentive (Owen &?? Forgot??). The third boy in training wasn't very good at keeping the group together or knowing what was happening (more interested in showing off & getting the girls attention).
Lunch was delightful - they catered for my fish allergies which was reassuring.
Pack sunscreen cause you will burn and were quick drying shoes because you will be walking in water, sitting under a waterfall and swimming.
I would do this trip again if I could!

This was a good choice. The whole day was well organised and ran very smoothly. Attention was paid to safety and individual needs,
The visit to the Orang-outangs was a highlight followed by Kayaking down a river with a stop for an excellent lunch of traditional foods. We also visited a long house.
Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable.

My partner and I recently had a great time on the Sarawak experience day tour.

We were promptly picked up by the team from our hotel in downtown Kuching on the day of the tour. The pickup time and expectations were well communicated and super simple.

We started the day at the Sarawak Orangutan preserve and were greeted by multiple Orangutans as soon as we entered. Our tour guide purchased our tickets and made the process simple. We saw 6 orangutans total, including a mother and her 6 day old baby! Incredible experience.

Next up we were driven roughly 45 min through winding jungle to get to the long house. We were greeted with a tasting of local rice wine, then spent roughly an hour touring the long house compound. It was a great insight into the local culture, and a nice learning experience on the trip.

Our tour guide then took us to the start of the kayaking portion of the trip, where we had a lovely lunch of local cuisine, cooked by the tour guides sister! It was delicious and filling, and they even were able to accommodate a vegetarian that was part of our group.

After lunch we got our life jackets and paddles and walked a short distance down some steps to start the kayak trip. The float was 11 km and took us roughly 2.5 hours, but the float time will vary based on your group and the river conditions. The trip is through beautiful bamboo forests and limestone rock formations that take your breath away. We saw monkeys and birds, and got plenty of great photos taken by our guide. The kayaks are comfortable and water is provided. The trip culminated with a swim in a deep river pool then a short paddle to the pick up area where we were taken back to our hotel after changing clothes.

Overall, we loved our experience, the guides were great, and we felt the price was very reasonable for all the activities we got to partake in.

We had fantastic customer service who responded to our late night texts for more information, helpful driver who is local and was conversant in both English and Malay, and kayak guides who were experienced and clearly knew their stuff.

But I would not be honest if I say this was worth the price tag of RM 285 per person:

Semenggor Orang Utan Sanctuary:
The tour's driver took us to the sanctuary, gave us the tickets and basically left us to our own devices thereafter. I'm not saying that there's more that the driver could've done, but if you have a valid driving licence and could navigate with Google Maps or Waze, there would be no reason for anyone to pay for a tour to see the orang utans. The instructor who did all the explaining about orang utans was from the sanctuary for which the entrance fee was RM 10 each (for foreigners) and RM 5 (for locals).

Anna Rais Longhouse:
Here, our driver doubled as our tour guide. We had some shots of rice wine which was inexpensive (RM 10 - 12 a bottle). Our driver then took us around the longhouse and gave some introduction and took photos for us as we walked. It was a shame that the driver couldn't provide more explanation than the most basic information about the longhouse and the Bidayuh culture that one could easily find from the internet. It felt like we could've simply driven here and did the visit on our own without needing a tour.

Lunch
Our lunch was prepared by our driver's sister and was as simple as it can be i.e. 3 dishes and some curry puffs and that was it. Wasn't even worth the time reviewing.

Kayaking
Absolutely no complaints here. The nature of the activity required experienced guides/instructors who, in our case, did an amazing job looking after us, besides taking plenty of decent photos. Unless you're some kayak veteran or are familiar with the rivers, I would not recommend doing this on your own.

All in all, I would suggest that if you're interested in doing all of the aforementioned activities, you probably don't need to pay for a tour save for the kayaking experience. The tour doesn't add any value to your experiences that if you get there by yourself.

Had an absolutely wonderful time from seeing orangutans, one with a baby, to an excellent lunch followed by canoeing for a couple of hours. It was so peaceful. The guides, who are all brothers, were very helpful and informative. Would definitely recommend this trip. Change of clothes is essential but not heavy boots. Only thing I would change would be to bring flip flops or water shoes for the walk to the canoe through some stones which were painful and slippy.

Thank you for your review and for your advice for the rest of your future guests on the foot wear. Flip Flops or waterproof is best. Another suggestion is strapped sandals. :)

Nice day trip - the guides were very friendly, knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. Saw the orangutans at Semmengoh before the kayak trip. Kayaks were decent, river was a little low as there had been no rain but enjoyable scenery and delicious lunch before the long house experience which was interesting also.

Thanks Claire! You're so lucky to see 5 orangutans! It rained the last few days and some guests were lucky to see 1 or 2 of them. Do come and see more of Sarawak in your next visit. :)

Mostly great, hence 4 stars.
The kayakking on the river was lovely - we did 4km (with young kids) and it was perfect - gorgeous scenery, a stop at a waterfall and some gentle exercise.
The trip to the longhouses was less special, I felt our guide didn't bother telling us why they exist and why they are an important part of local culture.
The trip to Semmengoh was good, although we weren't lucky enough to see any orangutans. Our driver was kind enough to take us back for the afternoon session, too, but alas still no luck.
Vegan lunch was delicious, fresh and homemade (tick!)
However we were driven around in a crappy old van which was not very comfortable. And the day overall was overpriced - I didn't feel we got value for all of that, compared to stuff we've done elsewhere in Asia. If you can do the component parts by yourself, a savvy traveller could do it for half the price, i'm sure.
