    Off the eaten track
We had a great evening with our knowledgeable guide Karlson. He took us to places we would never have visited by ourselves, trying a range of local foods in 3 different locations. Karlson checked in with us throughout the evening to ensure we were enjoying the food, if we needed anything else, any more food etc.. (which we definitely didn't, we were full!!) There was plenty of food and all chosen to suit our needs, gluten free, and tastes. He also made recommendations for photo opportunities. We would highly recommend the tour.

My wife and I had a great time with our guide, Carlson, learning not only about the food of KL's three main communities (Malay, Chinese and Indian), but also the history of KL and what day to day life in this incredible city is like. Carlson was an excellent guide, instantly making the experience more like a night of food and socialising with an old friend than a formal tour, which is the proof of a truly skilled guide. He also took us to some absolutely delicious restaurants and vendors for a real varied selection of KL's best offerings, and we were not disappointed. He was also able to tailor the tour to both my wife (who is vegetarian) and to myself (who will eat absolutely anything), so that we could both take part and enjoy the experience. Carlson also offered us advice and tips on what to do and see for our remaining time in KL and some suggestions for our ongoing trip which were really appreciated and have so far not disappointed.

Experience the real KL through the eyes of a foodie
We joined Ken on the Off The Rail food tour in January on our visit to Kuala Lumpur. Our aim was to discover the real KL as it is often very difficult to get under the skin of big cities. I run food tours myself so I know what to expect and I have to say it ticked all the boxes. Great guide, off the beaten track, mingling with locals, fantastic food, great insight into the community and being away from the big crowds of tourists. I can highly recommend this food tour as it takes you away from the city centre into the suburbs. Most locals have moved out of the city centre due to recent developments so if you want to taste and experience the real KL, then you have to move away from the main centre. Ken is very knowledgeable and fun to spend time with. The quality of the food excellent and the locations carefully selected. Make sure you have a light lunch so you can enjoy all the food. Thank you Ken for a great time.

    Excellent streetfood tour
As we wanted to learn more about the Malaysian food culture, we booked the Off The Eaten Track Tour. We tasted typical Malay, Chinese and Indian dishes, we would never have been ordering ourselves. All were very different and very tastful. Ken is an excellent guide who tells you with much enthusiasm about the different dishes and in between also he tells you much about Malay culture and life. We had a fantastic evening, also thanks to Ken, and highly recommend to do this tour if you are interested in local food. Thank you so much Ken!! Some remarks on booking via their website: the payment process is not very clear and does not function easily. Also, website could give more info on how to travel to their pick up point Taman Paramount ( from Klcc ans some other centally located stations, take the LRT Kelana Jaya Line directly going there)

    Brilliant Food Tour
You should definitely take Ken Chuah’s food tour if you’re interested in tasting delicious local food and finding out about the diverse communities of KL. We ate at a Chinese, Malay and Indian restaurant. At each of them we ate popular local dishes which our party of five had not tasted before. Ken is extremely knowledgable and just a great host. A lovely evening: thank you Ken!

    Delicious and Educational
Timothy was a wonderful guide and host to all that he loves about KL. Graciously leading us through neighborhoods and food stalls. Taking the train made it an exceptional way to learn the city, culture and history. We covered many areas I would never have experienced. At each stop we learned the history and dined on the delicious local traditional foods. Highly recommended for a unique experience of KL. Wear comfortable shoes and hat. You will get your 10,000 steps in!

Kuala Lumpur Off the Eaten Track Dinner Tour...Bravo!
Our family of four had an amazing time exploring the KL food scene in the Petaling Jaya Selangor area of Kuala Lumpur. While the food was incredible, there is no doubt that it was Ken, our guide for the evening, who was the secret ingredient that made this tour the best we've ever experienced. Our first stop was a homey Malay restaurant (steamed ground fish in palm leaf, Nasi Lemak, soup) where Ken recounted food memories from his childhood. On to a Chinese restaurant, where the stir fried noodle dishes, satay, and chicken wings were equally delectable. Finally, with our stomachs ready to burst, we arrived at an Indian restaurant where we somehow consumed dosa with incredible dips and chutneys. The finishing touch here was the incredible roti tissue....a light, crispy desert creation whose creation has to be seen to be believed. But in the end, it was Ken, his insights, humor, and wonderful conversation on a variety of topics that made this experience one we will always remember.

    Excellent...great morning
A fabulous way to be gently immersed into the different food cultures of Kuala Lumpur. Timothy, the guide shared his knowledge of Malaysia’s varied cultures and challenged us with lots of unusual foods and tastes. Catching the local trains added to the authentic nature of the morning. Tim has a wonderful relationship with the local vendors who welcome us.

Food Tour Breakfast and Lunch with "Food Tour Malaysia" with Farah Tan
Four friends enjoyed a fun, very relaxed, very tasty tour of local market food stalls in Dato Keramat and Pudu plus local excellent history. We met our guide Farah Tan at KLCC station and used local train to efficiently navigate Kuala Lumpur. Farah's local knowledge of the food, her friendly and respectful relationship with the market stallholders was genuine as we investigated the aromas surrounding us, thus giving us confidence in eating and sampling many local savory and sweet treats. We ate a Malay style traditional breakfast, sampled market sweets mid morning and concluded with a shared Chinese lunch in a cafe under the shade of a large tree next to a small Hindu temple in Pudu. At the end of our 3 hour 'tour' Farah ensured our safe return to our preferred train connection or taxi to hotel . Farah also has a local street market (food, fashion, trinkets and traders) tour for Pudu.

Absolutely fantastic tour of the various cuisines available in this fascinating city. Huge thanks to Ken for being an excellent guide and to the entire team for organising such a great tour (particular thanks to Ken and Farrah for ensuring I made the tour in spite of being late!)!

    Behind the scenes experience!
My friend and I decided to go on a food tour for our first time in Malaysia. We're foodies so we thought we'd already tried so much of Malaysian food, I was worried before we started that we'd just have a repeat of the food we'd already tried, but we had so much food that I'd never heard of before! Our guide Timothy was wonderful and very talented with speaking 6 languages fluently! Timothy was very punctual for the meet-up where we met some lovely folk from the UK. We were very lucky and had a small intimate group of 4 people. Timothy was very patient and explained to us a lot about the blend of culture in Malaysia. He showed us how to use the MRT which was extremely helpful! We tried traditional Malay food including nasi kerabu which was so surprisingly flavorful and appetizing, then went off to try some fresh hot Indian pourri. We were brought into the 'back' where the cooks gave us a demonstration of how they prepared the food. We had a chance to try some grilled stingray that was surprisingly firm and juicy, which we dipped in a tangy spicy sauce. All the food vendors were so lovely and kind and stopped to have a chat with us. We were brought to the wet and dry markets where we saw the types of produce the locals buy, and tried some Malaysian fruit. We had a small detour along the way where Timothy gave us a small history lesson of KL which was very interesting! The last stop was Chinatown where we tried some delicious and fluffy coconut pancakes and peanut pancakes, and some fresh handmade noodles. Every stop we made we got a beverage- the cold milk tea and coffees were the best, as well as the lime water with some sugar syrup that wasn't too sweet and so refreshing in the hot humid weather. You have got to try this tour if you are in Malaysia! There were so many hidden gems that travellers will never find tucked away in older buildings with fascinating exterior. It was an unforgettable experience- thanks again Timothy!

    A Cultural Experience
Try to do this trip if you are in KL. It was a great experience. These guys should be held in high esteem in our current world as they bridge the gap of separation of East and West, rich and poor, and bring us all together into a human community enriched by the sharing of food. A lovely experience to the local food markets, sharing local food with the most wonderful people and a food experience that was so yummy and comprised of all the local food cooked with love. We all really enjoyed it. We saw a KL from a very different light to the high rise buildings and were welcomed as old friends. A truly awesome experience, my favorite in KL.

    Fantastic
What can we say other than this was a truly incredible tour. Our guide Timothy was amazing, hugely knowledgeable and super friendly. He took us to places we’d never have ventured to on our own and opened our minds to some truly delicious foodie delights. He even took the time to take us to see some of KL’s sights after the main tour had finished. Can’t recommend these guys enough

Our tour guide was informative and very friendly. We made about 3 or 4 stops for Chinese, Indian and traditional Malaysian food. The tour lasted about 3 or so hours with minimal walking. It would still be a good idea to wear comfy shoes. We met friendly locals and asked tons of questions on culture. It was by far one of the best tours in KL we went on!

If I can provide any tips I would suggest to arrive on an empty stomach! There is so much great food to taste with large portions. :)

What a way to end our first day in KL! From the moment Carlson met us to the end of the tour he was knowledgeable, curious, generous and fun. We loved the places he took us and the food he had us try. A great way to get out of the city centre and eat like a local.

Such a great tour! Highly recommend.

I went back in January 2020 with my friend who had been living in KL since August. The food was great, of course, but our guide, Ken, really made the experience. He was courteous, funny, and knowledgable, and I felt like he really enjoyed sharing his favorite spots and meeting new people.

Make sure to show up hungry and to pace yourself so that you're not stuffed before the last stop!

Our food tour with Karlson was pretty great! He took us to try the main cultural foods of each major ethnic group here in KL - Malay, Indian, and Chinese. The food did not disappoint at all. We were so stuffed at the end that you had to carry me off in a wheelbarrow! Just kidding. I love the small group atmosphere, and Karlson phrased it just right - it was a tour as if he were taking a couple of his friends to some really good places. It definitely delivered. 10/10 would recommend.

Timothy was a great guide, who also safely drove us to each location. The amount of food was insane. Come hungry! The location of the first stop is a little out of town, but it's an authentic Malaysian eatery. I love that the Chinese stop follows the Chinese market. Having visited from China for CNY, I did not want Chinese food. I already have that! However, the sour noodle soup we ate at the Chinese market was one of the best bowls of noodles I've ever had! Lastly, my only complaint was that we couldn't spend 3+ hours at the Indian restaurant. So delicious! He even took us to the city center at the end of the night. It was a great time. Well worth it. Thanks!

We had previously done the Penang food tour with the same company the same company which was excellent. The KL tour was recommended by a family member who had done it 6 years previously.
The tour with our guide Charles certainly did not disappoint. Charles was both extremely knowledgable, and a thoroughly nice guy. Our tour was both interesting historically as well as in a culinary sense. The food was delicious. We certainly visited places we would never have found ourselves.
This tour is a must whilst in KL. Like the Penang tour this will always be one of our fondest memories.

If you want a legitimate local food experience, this is it!! Ken was our outstanding and personable guide for the evening. We made three stops at local eateries in Petaling Jaya - one Malay, one Chinese and the other Indian -- so you get to sample all the local flavors. Come hungry!!!! No joke there was tons of food to be had. Highly recommend for anyone interested in a "real" experience outside the normal tourist spots in KL proper.

Yesterday we had a wonderful streetfood tour wird Ken. I had high expectations in advance but Ken exceeded them by far. There were so many delicious dishes that we were not capable to decide which was best. And above all Ken gave us a charming inside in malaysian culture. Ken, thanks for this amazing evening.
And to our american group: Its been a great pleasure meeting you. If you ever come over to Europe contact me and we will have a nice wine tasting. Oliver.mckenzie@kds-kg.

We had a great time with our “ new “ best friend Karlson. We started with Indian food, eating dishes we would never have tried , and they were just so yummy. Although we were soon very full we skipped the Chinese meal and just wandered around China town eating desserts. Karlson was happy to make any changes we wanted and was so knowledgeable. We then went on to the Malaysian meal, again another surprise of great food, which we really enjoyed. What a great night, and we got on so well laughing and joking from the moment we met till sadly the time we finnished, this was our first ever food tour, and we were so happy we took it, and also we really did feel like we made a new friend along the way.
