The Alternative Fushimi Inari Walking Tour
US$54.54
Overview

If you’re interested in a deeper understanding of the shrines and temples of Japan, take this tour of Fushimi Inari with a real insider. Go past the tunnels of red tori gates. Learn fascinating stories, history and folklore. See temples, shrines, forest-bathing sites and a zen garden, and get access to sites not on the official map.

What to Expect
Meet your guide at the entrance of Fushimi Inari Taisha, and take a tour of the main shrine. We will then go off the beaten track onto private shrines not shown on the official map to learn about the mystical practices and folk beliefs that are excluded from the official narrative.

After reaching a vantage point for a scenic view of southern Kyoto City, discover healing shrines, holy eggs, and Oseki-san, a god on Mt Inari, popular with devotees seeking deliverance from severe coughs and breathing difficulties.

Continue to a sub-temple of Tofukuji Temple via a secret route lined with hidden streams, waterfalls, and great cedar trees off the main trail. You will learn about the Hindu and Buddhist origins of some of the religious symbols, and the Korean and Tang Dynasty Chinese influence on folk shintoism along the way.

After spending a quiet moment in a zen garden, we will walk through the grounds of Tofukuji Temple and end the tour at Tofukuji Station.

The best guide ever

We had an amazing morning st the Shrine. Lee took us to the most amazing places on the hillside, and he is so knowledgable in so many fields, whether it is religion, Moss, gardens or whatever you ask. Highly recommended. Eva and Atle

Alternative Fushimiri Inari

Besides being very familiar with Alternative Fushimi Inari area, Lee gave very insightful and interesting stories behind what we saw at the Inari. He managed the pace of the tour well and he responded to our questions. The walk was refreshing.
