- theironside00Cool places with awesome personI loved it, Sasha was amazing person, I enjoyed talking to him a lot. I already recommended the tour to other people as I enjoy it myself.
- Kevin C00Excellent tourDamien was an excellent tour guide. The tour was very informative and fun. Would recommend to anyone who is new to the area. Highly recommended!
- 54rossh00Very Interesting Good ValueI attended this tour in September which was hosted by Kevin (a Canadian guy who had lived in Japan for some time). I have been to Japan many times but never to Osaka. I found the tour very interesting and learned a lot about the hidden Japan. Kevin was very friendly and inclusive. We toured a wide area, had some snacks and drinks along the way and ended the night with a nice dinner. Walking through the red light district of Tobita Shinchi was an eye opener. I had no idea this existed and it is unique in the world. I would highly recommend this tour.
- cj_punk_00900Good Tour Until the Whale MeatThe tour was great up until the whale meat. That entire industry is just so morally and ethically disgusting. I understand and was told I didn't have to eat it (although the couple that was with me seemed on the fence about it until the guide pushed a "while in Rome" cliche). But I just felt wrong sitting in that place, and knowing that my money is going to support any part of that industry. It's hours after the tour, and I still can't shake the negative feelings. I honestly would not have booked this tour if I knew whale meat would be purchased with my money.
- Eugene S00FantasticThe tour was fantastic, you learn a lot about Osaka and it’s cultural history Food could have been better
- kazlynp00Great intro to local area and local foodFantastic afternoon with Michael touring Kuromon Market. We tried delicious food - a lot of which we wouldn’t have by ourselves - and learned a lot about the food, the market and surrounding area. Michael was a great guide and very responsive to our interest in the area, providing a lot of info and insights we would not have otherwise known. If you’re not familiar with the food or the area or Osaka more generally, I thoroughly recommend this tour.
- Jon_Bu_1100Excellent TourReally great tour, excellent local guide (Mico) who gave us insight and knowledge of the edgy sides of Osaka! Would highly recommend.
- jeremygK3874JM00Knowledgeable staff showed us the best spotsDominic and Milo were amazing! They answered questions well and had good expertise in the area. We saw a lot of the downtown and learned a lot of 19th and 20th century history. Tried some of their food recommendations afterward, which were delish. Appreciated their recs for Kyoto and beyond.
- elijahl35600Absolutely Incredible Experience, An Amazing Look Into The Undisscussed Sides Of JapanThe tour was incredible. While not particularly beautiful or jaw-dropping visually like many of the other tours available in Japan, it offers something very unique- that being nuance and grit. It provides a look into the complex issues facing the Japanese people which are not commonly discussed in the west, and paints a more complete picture of how Japanese society behaves and operates. Our tour guide, Niko, gave in-depth explanations about some of the issues facing modern Japan and how the Japanese underworld operates. There is much to be learned from this tour, and even if you are spending only a single day in Osaka I would still suggest that this be part of your itinerary as it is incredibly enlightening. The tour wasn’t just doom and gloom either, so don’t be dissuaded by worries that it may be too heavy because while there were definitely serious moments, there was also lots of funny moments as well.
- JMichael9500Osaka City CenterI had a great time in Osaka and did the group tour option as a solo traveler. It was myself and one other group of 3 people. I’m staying outside of Osaka so it was a very good way to see the city and get a lot of recommendations on places to go and things to try. Throughout the tour, our guide was constantly telling us restaurants to try, places to see, and additional things to do which was great! Definitely schedule a tour at the beginning of your trip so you can take advantage of this! I appreciate learning about all the fun facts and being able to ask about cultural / societal norms. Our guide did a great job explaining every question asked and more! The tour was really customizable and the guide never ran out of options! He also went out of his way to take photos of us if we wanted which was a bonus 🙂
- N7331JZjeremyl00Great tour of Namba downtown areaOur tour guide was fantastic. As an ex pat from Ireland, he had a lot of great opinions to give us as someone who has now lived in Osaka for 20+ years. We had a great time learning about Osaka and the downtown areas of Namba, Den Den, and Shinseki on our tour, and highly recommend this to others.
- sergeybD2348IJ00Private 4 hour walking tour.Michael is an amazing tour guide. He will tailor the tour to your interests. He is fun and knowledgeable on local off the beaten track places. Ask to taste the desert from the desert lady in fish market. He will provide you with the list of local restaurants that have been vetted. Thank you, Michael.
- laurafinlayson2800True “backstreet” of Osaka tour!Mich was a great guide! Super interactive and informative! He was fun and personable and I loved that we went to areas of Osaka I absolutely would never have found on my own. The information given on the tour was also very real and eye opening, I liked that the tour was raw and engaging.
- 10maschaa00Great evening in OsakaThe deep Osaka Backstreet tour is excellent to experience the city and also to look a little behind the corners. Michael, our guide, had great anectotes and a lot of information about osaka and japan.
- EmilioLagpacan00Kuromon Market Tour 2023We definitely recommend the Kuromon Market Tour and especially with Annie as our tour guide! Annie provided key details regarding the market and the Japanese culture. What I liked the most was she encouraged us to try things outside our comfort zone, such as puffer fish. It was delicious! I would highly recommend her!! Cheers!

We had so much fun on this tour. Our guide Levi knew so much about the city and the food and was also hilarious! He made lots of jokes, took us down a slide in a local park (very fun and unexpected) and all the food was really good. We learned a lot about Osaka and felt like locals not tourists! We would definitely recommend this tour, thanks for a great time Levi!

We booked the food tour last minute with our family of five and met with our wonderful guide Anna. The maximum number in one group is 9 people) so we were joined with two other couples who were extremely lovely as well and this did not make the tour slower or worse in any way, on the contrary! So don’t hesitate to book if the reason is you don’t like group tours, this isn’t one of those! 😄
Anna took us on a food rollercoaster, enthusiastically including every single person of the group and joking along the way while still giving good insights and food tips. We visited 4-5 different places you would otherwise never find or dare to enter as a tourist.
We ended up in a karaoké bar for some drinks and songs and had a total blast. If this is not your thing, you can of course ask your guide for some nice addresses or bars or leave after the tour is over.
100% recommend, when in doubt, don’t doubt! The price is fair, considering you’ll have more than enough to eat, meet new people and places and get to know some hidden Osaka treasures. These guides know their way around and they’ll be happy to indulge you in the wonderful world of street food.

Last night I had a great night with Luca my guide. Luca was very informative about the area and food. We even visited a shop where trainees learn how to make and sharpen knives. As I had intended to buy a knife whilst in Japan I bought one in this shop and they engraved my name in Japanese for me. We visited numerous places, had some inside a kombi van at one place and finished the tour at a place that helps less fortunate people . On Sundays this restaurant closes and lets kids from the local area come and chill and have a free meal. If in Osaka this evening is a must

Worst tour I ever done. The food we got didn’t match the description. We didn’t get an explanation on what we were eating, plus the portions weren’t enough for everyone. The tour guide at times seem like he was improvising and at times regurgitating a script and more interested to show off rather than guiding us. He took us to a vending machine as his “favourite bar in Osaka” I get he tried to pull a joke but he couldn’t pull it off, plus he gave us ‘free time’ after which for a short tour seems very strange. He told us more about the places he goes rather than explaining Osaka. The area where the tour was done felt like it was chosen because it was cheap and not because it had a nice atmosphere or good food. We save ourselves for the tour with excitement and at the end of the tour we were hungry as well as the rest of the tour attendees, we all wanted to get more food from the 7/11 as it will probably be better of what we had on the tour. Honestly I regret this tour as it was a waste of money.

Andy was absolutely amazing! My friend and I booked the tour last minute and we were so happy we did it!
It’s more than amazing Osaka local food, Andy told us so much about the local culture, local traditions and of course local food history.
We did the tour during Covid and Osaka was facing some early restaurant closure but we still had a chance to taste everything that was listed on the description.
It’s an absolutely must do in Osaka, specially if you don’t speak fluent Japanese and want to have the authentic local food!
10/10!

We had a FANTASTIC time on this food tour. Our guide was a chill dude named Brent, who originally grew up in the States but has been living in Japan for the last few years. He took us around to some eateries in Shinsenkai market, which is at the base of the Osaka tower. We had a bunch of delicious stuff, and Brent was very knowledgable about the history of Osaka and the food scene there. The places he took us were definitely out of the way and filled with locals, and included some fantastic udon, takoyaki, karage, and a bunch of other stuff. We also went to a pachinko arcade, which was cool. We ended the night at a little cafe a ways from the market. The whole thing lasted about three hours, and was well worth the price to get a real feel of the city and eat some tasty food. Thanks Brent! 10/10 would follow you around and eat stuff again.

We did this tour as it seemed so different. Osaka is so big and we didnt know where go for traditional food. Andy our guide, showed us a great night out. Actually it was our best night out in Japan. He made it special and gave it a unique touch through his Japanese Australian heritage. Worth every bit.

How has this go so many good reviews?! We booked it based on the rave reviews expecting it to be amazing and all I can say is we are hungry and disappointed.
I learnt more about our guides personal life (which wasn’t interesting) than about Osaka, the food was the worst we have had on our trip in Japan so far and it was an absolute rip off.
It claims to feed you 10 dishes but they consisted of 1 chicken wing, 2 octopus balls, 1 prawn, 1 bowl of average ramen (which we were told by to worry about finishing because we would get SO much more food), some poor omelette with pork, a few small skewers, some miso soup and one small pineapple chunk.
Honestly the worst tour I’ve ever done and I do lots and usually leave really positive reviews.

Fun, food, and fast friends! Andy takes you to the grittier neighborhoods and shows you the characters of the back alleys, haunts, dives, and food stalls of Osaka. Get out of the typical tourist trek and take this tour! The food is good, but Andy is a superb story teller who makes up for that in spades! Highly recommended only to those who like having a good time with great local guy with a sense of humor. Osaka! HOT DAMN!

If you’re a pescatarian I don’t think this is the tour for you. Although they do ask if you have any dietary restrictions or issues. There was quite a bit of meat.
