        Great trip
Activities were super fun and generally well organized. Great way to see a beautiful canyon and river. Minor word of caution that the horses seemed a little skittish for trail horses.

Meh ... Self tour of you can
The volcano tour is a gravel trail and many steps in a loop around the steam vents. You do not go high up the volcano. Also, it is not a lava volcano, but steam. We heard animals, but did not see them. If you use a tour guide, you are on a strict schedule at the stops. We did not get to stop for souvenirs, as described, due to traffic and the guides wanting to get home. The hot springs are amazing and I recommend driving yourself to allow time to enjoy. The waterfall is cold and refreshing.

        A fun filled day.
Amazingly fun. The tubing is by far the best. Lots of help from the guides if you get stuck too. The horseback ride was much better than other ones I have taken. You take an interesting route through the jungle.

Awesome excursion! Kevin Pina is the best!
Kevin Pina was awesome! Extremely knowledgeable of the plant and animal life in the area and brings a great energy to the whole excursion. Highly recommend taking this trip if you have the time. Lots of great features to help feel fully immersed in the deep beauties of Guanacaste beyond the coastline

Enjoying Natural Beauty of Costa Rica
Fun day of hiking, lunch, waterfall swim, and relaxing in the natural hot springs for our multi generational family of 6! Our guide was great informing us about the area and answering questions. It was a very hot day which made the 2 mile moderate hike with many steps more challenging for those of us 70ish even though we’re active. The waterfall is beautiful, the water temp is cold which they tell you. I went in to my knees which was refreshing. Lunch was great! And the hot springs felt so good after an active day! We’re glad we went and would definitely recommend doing it! Linda Martin March 2025

        Many Amazing Things but…
We absolutely loved the zip line, water tubing, and hot springs portions of this excursion. These were incredible!! Lunch was great too! The downsides to this excursion: we never did get to see the volcano and the horseback riding was along a very dusty rocky trail. Throughout the entire excursion, all of the staff were absolutely amazing!!

Worth the hike for the views and animals. Cacao and coffee tour very authentic and fresh. Marquise and Cano great guides to have.

Great way to experience the rainforest and wildlife
Our tour guide Diego and driver Michael were wonderful. They went out of their way to make our day educational and enjoyable. We enjoyed our first stop at llanos de Cortes waterfall where they had changing rooms and we were able to enjoy the refreshing waterfall. We then had an hour tour at the Sloth sanctuary. The sanctuary guide had a telescope so that we could get a better view of several sloths sleeping in the high trees and even took photos for us. We also saw a poison dart frog, a tucan, the famous red eye tree frog and an hourglass tree frog. Then on to Rio Celeste. Diego pointed out a viper snake and a vine snake as well as howler monkeys on our hike. The waterfall was well worth the moderate hike. We ended with a delicious buffet. A long day but we felt it was well worth it.

Absolute spot to experience Costa Rican adventures!!
Highly recommended for a full day of different adventures. We used Shaman Tours (Garçon was our guide) for transport from Playa Hermosa and it made a lot of difference. Horseback riding is not my favorite thing but it was nice and leisurely. The horses are well trained and well behaved. No issues with my youngest riding alone. Lasted about an 30-45 min. Next we did river rafting in inner tubes. Super fun. Low rated rapids with cold but refreshing water in the heat. Kids had a great time. Shallow enough to stand and occasionally feel bumps on your butt. Lasted about 1-1.5 hours. Next was the zipline tour. I’m not a big fan of heights but thought I should do it because, well, we are in Costa Rica. Scary but awesome. Did tandem with my youngest who HATES rollercoasters until he was comfortable with going himself. My guide was able to snag me a helmet with a GoPro attachment. Absolutely the coolest thing lining through the river canyon. Lunch was typical Costa Rican buffet style but absolutely delicious and filling. Lastly was the mud baths. Because it was already so hot, our guide was able to arrange for access to this beautiful waterfall instead. We swam in cool refreshing water at the end of the day. Highly recommend this place. Would also recommend using Shaman Tours (shout out to Garçon), especially if you need transportation from the hotel.

The tour was one of the greatest experiences and it wouldn’t be possible without our tour guides who were flawless. Thanks a lot to David and Jorge, from the pick up/drop off to the drive and also them taking time to explain the Costa Rican culture and food, it was just perfect. Other than that all the activities surpassed expectations and everyone had immense fun even the kids. Would definitely recommend this tour to others and even the amazing tour guides (David & Jorge)!

        Highly Recommended Tour
I did the Rio Celeste tour and tubing downriver with our guide Manfred. It was an awesome experience. The weather was great and the views were majestic. Our guide was very patient and not at all pushy with the additionals. Our tour guide was young but knowledgeable and respectful. I can see him going places in Costa Rica's tourism industry.

Epic adventure not for the lazy!
Our tour guide and driver were the absolute best. All in all this tour was one of the greatest experiences one could ask for. The pick up was flawless, the drive incredible, the lunch perfect. The experience--priceless. An epic adventure. Just a couple things I must let others considering this know about: IT IS VERY TIRING and not for those that are not in shape. The river ride is intense. It is not as simple as sitting in a tube. It can get very intense at times so don't expect to just be on a lazy river. Once it's done you need to carry your tube up a huge hill and if this is the last activity of the day you'll be VERY tired. The ZIP LINING is also intense at times. It is not just clip and go. In the heat it can be pretty intense and the time between different lines is pretty short so you are moving rapidly. Besides that...you will not get a better experience anywhere. Well worth every penny. Superb.

Trip to Nicaragua on Tuesday 3rd March 2025 with Nexus

We left Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica at 6.40am and our coach driver, drove us 30 minutes to La Cruz.

1st stop was at La Cruz to look and take photos at the view point.
We then drove 5-10 minutes to join the larger coach with guests from other hotels to continue our excursion to Nicaragua.

We drove a further 20 minutes to cross the Nicaragua border.
At Nicaragua boarder we had to stand in a line to wait for our passports to be stamped, finger and thumb prints taken and pay $13 tax. Immigrations were very busy and we had to wait in line for about 20 minutes

1st stop was to look at the stunning 'San Juna del Sur beach' when we climbed the steps to see 'Christ of Mercy statue' the views and photo opportunities was breathtaking. The story behind the statue, warmed your heart.

2nd stop to Granada the oldest Cologne city in North America with a tour of the city in a horse drawn cart. We paid $20 for a 1 hour tour on a horse and cart, which was worth every penny as the tour guide showed us many places of interest that we could go and explore and the information he told us was fascinating.
We stopped off at a chocolate factory / shop called Bate Bate chocolate, cathedral and the city square.
We then stopped for Lunch in Granada and had a lovely meal. We had the choice of 4 different dishes we could select

3rd stop at Monkey island lake tour at Lake Nicaragua. This boat tour was one of our favourite parts of the trip, seeing the islands with fantastic properties build on them was breathtaking.

4th stop was at Catarina to take some photos from the view point and visit the local market. The market is a must and excellent prices for souvenirs.

We drove back to Nicaragua boarder control to have our passports stamped, then next door to Costa Rica passport control to have our passports stamped and pay $3 tax to enter Costa Rica again.

Cross the border 20 minutes from Nicaragua boarder to La Cruz, then 30 minutes to the hotel

Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the Masaya Volcano nicknamed The Gates of Hell, as there had been a landslide 6 months previously and the volcano was very active. Christ of Mercy statue was the substitute visit for the volcano.

Left hotel at 6.45am back at 7.45pm

I absolutely loved this excersion and so glad we experience Nicaragua and learned the fascinating history of the country

We had an amazing experience! We had an awesome tour guide, each stop was just long enough, and we opted for the horse tour around the city which was so worth the slight upcharge ($10 a person). Our tour guide was knowledgeable and spoke great English, very easy to understand and communicate with. We loved the chocolate factory and the meals provided were not only good but large in size so plenty to fill you up. Water was provided throughout and even though it was hot the AC was strong in the van. I would recommend though bringing car sickness medication because you’re in a 12 passenger van for the whole trip and the roads are very bumpy and the driving very jerky. The boat is also very jerky. SO WORTH IT - just be prepared. Also we were nervous about the pick up but don’t be — they send a Google maps link and the location wasn’t hard to get to.

One of the best and most organized tours I’ve ever taken. Never thought about going to Nicaragua or how incredibly beautiful it is, which is one of the reasons I’m glad we went. Guia was our guide and he was well versed on Nicaraguan culture, traditions and it’s’ people which he shared throughout the day. Both the active volcano and the dormant crater filled with water are must sees and the highlight of the trip with the boat ride at the end being the perfect compliment to what was an outstanding day.

The tour included breakfast, which wasn’t anything special, but the restaurant was on the beach, which was a great way to start the day. Lunch was also included and was extremely delicious. You’ll also enjoy the stop at the chocolate and cocoa facility, whose employees put on quite a performance to educate and entice you to buy. Believe me, it works! I think everyone in our group bought chocolate or cocoa to take home!

The only stressful part of the day was at the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua because of the lines and mass of people at both passport control offices, but Guia did a great job of trying to get us through quickly. Overall, it was just an extraordinary day and highly recommended.

They managed the border crossing exceptionally well, and for a country that has safety/security concerns we never felt in danger. The lake tour was a highlight and the meals were fine. It’s a long day, and I think over 10 of the 16 hours are sitting on buses, which on the Costa Rica side were very cramped and uncomfortable. It said bottled water was included, and we technically did get a bottle with breakfast, but it wasn’t provided on any of the buses or at any other point. The tour guide was ok… he talked a little about the formation of Nicaragua at the beginning, but not much after that. The tour of Granada was done by the horse carriage driver and that was an additional expense. We were told at the beginning of the tour that availability for that was limited, but when we got there we saw dozens of them sitting idle. Overall it was ok.

Glad we went. Lake Nicaragua is fascinating and the homes built on the lakes’ islets are really impressive. The monkeys were fun to see but there’s no feeding- just photos from a small boat- best part of the day but only 30 minutes total boat ride. Breakfast and lunch were good but not memorable. The shopping was ok- $20 for 12 oz bags of coffee had me thinking I’d go home empty handed but she came down to $10- more than fair. 30 minutes there was fine for us. Loooong day from Tamarindo but out guides and drivers were good and made crossing borders pretty quick and seamless. Wish we could have seen the inside of the cathedral.

Long trip, but well worth it. Going through the border was handled well, in my case they flagged taxes that wasn’t paid, it was handled promptly. The food included (Breakfast and Lunch) was local and excellent.

There was no visit to the Volcano as this has been closed for quite some time but is still listed in the itinerary so should be amended as it is misleading. I would have liked more engagement during the ‘free time’ in Granada but I would still recommend this company and the trip 100%. Do it, you won’t regret it.

What we saw of Nicaragua was cool but we were rushed in everything we did. They gave us 35 minutes to shop. Some people were upset we never stopped again to shop. Most of the day was spent driving. Most things we saw was from inside the van.
I thought we would get out and walk around and go in buildings and churches but no that didn't happen. To spend $236 a person and waste an entire day driving and being rushed through things I would probably have to say I don’t recommend

I really enjoyed this day trip to Nicaragua. Before going you have to understand and be accepting of a few things like the border process can be long (mainly on the way there). You have to get out of the bus and wait in line to get your passport stamped on both the CR and Nicaraguan side. It was a 3 hour drive to the border for us and then 2 hours at the border and after a lovely breakfast by the lake another 3 hours drive to the church, so it is a lot of time in the shuttle as others have said. However, all involved, especially Miguel our guide on then Nicaragua side tried really hard to make the experience a spectacular one. In one day, we saw a lot. In order to see a lot, it is a bit rushed. What we saw was beautiful and made me want to go back and visit again for a longer stay. Despite not being able to visit the volcano due to some activity there (we visited the Jesus en ti confio instead), I would highly recommend to those who understand and can appreciate what it takes to see so much in one day.

First and foremost we would like to say a big thank you to Miguel who was our tour guide and to our driver Antonio (Tonio). They both really took care of us and provided an outstanding service. Miguel it’s very knowledgeable about Nicaragua and he is eager to share with you all the information. We were delighted to meet such passionate and open minded person.

Please keep in mind that you are being guided by the tour guide in Nicaragua and on the Costa Rican’s territory only given the lift service to the border. There’s nothing to complain about the process but it’s best for you to know this information beforehand. Also, Miguel is helping you with the migration office on the Nicaraguan side of the border and the driver is showing you to the migration office in the Costa Rican side of the border.
Throughout the day we were told and showed the wonderful places Nicaragua has to offer.
We have started off by enjoying a traditional breakfast, followed by a visit to the mirador of Catarina and the artizanal market.
Afterwards we went straight to the activ volcano where we had a chance to see the vulcanic reactions. After the volcano stop we went to the lovely Granada which is a very beautiful Spanish colonial town where aside from the sightseeing we l enjoying a delicious lunch in a traditional restaurant. While being in Granada we have enjoyed a lovely local tour in a horse carriage which had two stops, first at the tobacco factory and the other one at the chocolate factory. The last segment of the trip was about The Nicaragua lake and the boat tour which was magnificent.

We hope this is of help since we strongly recommend this tour together with the tour guide and the driver. Thank you for sharing with us your knowledge and passion for life.

Booked the tour with Frank the Tank. Frank is wonderful and very responsive to Messenger communication and gives reductions for repeat or multiple tour bookings. The Nicaragua tour is interesting and the views spectacular. The guides and driver were excellent and very helpful, the equipment was clean and new and the food wonderful. Just be aware that crossing into Nicaragua is a very slow and painful process involving long lines, fingerprinting and multiple passport reviews. The trip overall takes about 15 hours and at least 10 of these are driving so I don't advise it with young kids, or if you're not prepared for the driving time. Return to Costa Rica is easier, but even the exit from Nicaragua is slow.
