Really a lot of fun. Wife and I were total beginners and unsure if we were going to be in over our head. But, tripped turned out awesome and better than we could have imagined.
Amigos del RÃo picked us up directly from our hotel and then drove us to their main office where we had a nice, traditional Costa Rican lunch (included in price of trip) before setting off to the river. Ride to the rafting location is a wonderful (but long - over 1 hour) trek deep into the mountains. Rafting guides provided nice commentary about the area during the drive.
Once you get to the rafting location, you get a short but thorough crash course in how to safely paddle down the river. Basically, you just have to do exactly what the guide tells you to do, and do it fast! The guides seemed like real pros and the rafts are accompanied by others in kayaks who scout out the upcoming rapids and make sure everything is safe. YOU WILL GET SOAKING WET.
Fun little stop at a beautiful waterfall about halfway down the rafting trip. The guides take photographs of you on the way down the river. The pictures were really well done. You have to pay for them separately at the end of the trip if you want them.
You leave all of your belongings (towels, change of clothes, etc) in the tour van during the trip. There is room to bring your wallet and cell phone in the raft, which is stored with you in a dry lockbox.
Probably the most fun we had on our trip—which is really saying something because there were so many awesome things we got to do in Costa Rica.

I definitely recommend this group Amigos Del Rio and already spread the words to all my friends that visit Costa Rica, Manual Antonio area. From the time they pick you up at your hotel to the time they bring you back, it is just "HEAVEN".
The full team is really good. Those men are extremely professional, smart, entertaining, and make sure that you are safe following their instructions, they take the safety protocol seriously. They worked hard together to prepare and transport all the rafts, and it is also part of the experience/day to see them doing that. I love this part. We did take the tour at 11.00 am and were super surprised to have a delicious meal at their office before leaving for the ride. Really good meal. Everything so well organized. Thanks to the kitchen's people.
If I do remember our guide was Andres, this man is an encyclopedia, an amazing knowledge about the river, the fauna, the flora, the animals, birds, unbelievable and he really enjoys sharing it and answering our questions. Was fantastic.
We also enjoyed the opportunity to stop and walk few meters to see a beautiful waterfall and take a yummy snack! those pineapples are just delicious.
Last word for the young man!! the photograph!! He was really professional and took great pictures, on his own, "like kayak". The photo package is very very cheap and really worth it. We do have now the happiest memories of this rafting day.
Pura Vida!

First time white water rafting and I don’t think I will ever top this experience on another river in the world. Pouring rain 5 minutes before we are dropping into an already heavy flowing river as it is rainy season.
Nervous wife = hell yea.
Guide and safety kayaker put our minds at ease and we pushed thru the first thru rapids with crazy adrenaline. So glad my 14-16 year old and wife did this with me, the experience was one we will remember forever!
Do it ! You only live once! Pura Vida!!

Our hotel recommended and booked for us. We were picked up right on time and taken to the office to pay and have lunch. It was the typical rice, beans and chicken but very tasty. We left shortly after and this is where our frustration began. We had to stop twice to pick up or wait for additional customers and then drive about 35 min to another spot where we changed vehicles. Then they took us to the home of some locals for the option of buying more food/drinks. In our opinion this was a waste of time, we had only just finished lunch so it seemed redundant to stop again. I did notice all the guides eating so maybe this was more a stop for them than us? The roads were terrible and with the rain the night before, they were extra poor. We had to stop on 3 different occasions to be towed through the mud. It was agonizingly slow and was a full 3 hours from the time we were picked up until we actually got in the water. Waaaay too long and drawn out. Once we finally got into the water it was an awesome experience. Our guides were Raul, Kenneth, Jadon and our driver, Eddie. We felt very safe, the experience was super fun and the landscape is breathtaking. The river was very warm and the waterfalls were really fun to experience. Our trip home took only 35 minutes. We would recommend this trip but would suggest that a more direct route to the actual rafting experience would improve the tour.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience with us!
I would like to apologize for the delays that you experienced, Several factors, out of our control, caused a delay in your trip and this is not the norm.
It started off on the wrong foot when we had to wait awhile for some other customers that were running late. A lot of rain in the days leading up to your trip caused a mudslide on the road to the river. This road was just recently repaired, but as this was the holidays there was noone available to come and fix it again on such short notice. The rains that were experienced are not typical for this time of year as it is now our dry season.
The stop at a local families house is a stop that we make so that guests have an opportunity for a bathroom break before getting to the river, and are able to purchase empanadas to help support this family too if they wish.
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the rafting portion of the trip and that you were able to experience the beautiful Savegre River!
Again, we apologize for the delays that occurred on your trip, and we hope to see you again on your next visit to Costa Rica so that we can make it up to you.

Best adventure of our whole trip! The drive to the river was definitely a little bumpy, but the driver was very experienced, and we learned some cool facts about the area on the way. We even had a quick stop at a local's house for the bathroom. The family sold us delicious empanadas, would definitely recommend them! The rafting was so much fun. We were a party of 2, one an experienced rafter, one a complete newbie, and it was the perfect mixture of thrills and chill floating. As a newbie, I would highly recommend this river! Juan Carlos, our rafting guide, was wonderful! He gave very clear directions, spotted cool birds, and made our safety as a priority (while also ensuring we got the best ride through the rapids!). The stop halfway to swim under a waterfall was so refreshing. The only downside is that they charge $15 per person in your group for pictures, so we had to pay $30 extra for our photos while the 6 person group we went with had to pay $90, which is completely overpriced! However, still the the best rafting company to go with in Manuel Antonio!

This was a great tour, Alex, Chino and Jr. were absolutely amazing guides. They were knowledgeable of the area, pointed out lots of wildlife and made us feel very safe and comfortable. My partner and I ended up in a very large group but they did a great job of keeping space and making things move along at a good pace still. Would absolutely recommend this trip to anyone who wants a bit of excitement. The monkey drop was v super fun and we saw them drop some people slower who were more nervous but they were happy to accommodate the thrill seekers like myself and my partner as well.
We decided not to take our cameras and went with the photos from the tour. They were reasonably priced and really well done!

Everything was perfect, from start to finish. We opted to drive to the store front and they helped us find a secure parking spot. They served us a delicious plate of typical Costa Rican food. They let us eat and chat at our own pace, and when we were ready, they helped us into a beautiful 4x4 Land Cruiser. It was a comfortable ride with AC and plenty of space.
During the hour long ride, the crew entertained us with trivia about the history of the grounds we were crossing. I learned so much about Costa Rica and the way of life! We had a small stop along the mountain to visit a garden and Humberto expertly drove us up the steep dirt roads until we reached the desired starting point.
We got protective gear and a quick safety lesson, as well as a lesson on how exactly to row. It was everyone’s first time rafting, and I’d like to say we were proficient by the end of the trip! Jesus did an amazing job of guiding our exciting decent down the river. Not only did he keep us safe, but his jovial commentary and humor kept us laughing and engaged the whole trip! He pointed out the natural beauty that was surrounding us, from tectonic plates, hurricanes, plants, animals, you name it! He answered all our questions and also let us jump in the water during the few calm points in the water.
The rapids were incredibly exciting, exhilarating and over all unforgettable! We felt safe throughout the trip because not only did we have our safety gear, but we had Jesus guiding our raft and two experts ( Diego and Carlos ) navigating ahead of our raft in kayaks ready to make a rescue in the event that someone fell overboard. We stopped by a water fall for a healthy snack and ended our trip completely content. 100% recommended!

Truly fantastic experience! Do not miss it if you are in Manuel Antonio.
I took my wife and a 10 year old son (who was a bit concerned) river rafting for first time. The team of Los Amigos Del RÃo was fantastic in every sense of the word. They were extremely well organized, accommodated to the different requests from the passengers and made everyone feel comfortable, safe and have a great time! Moises did a great job at explaining all the details of the trip and the scenery that we all enjoyed in the way to the Savegre river. He was also very helpful at giving safety instructions and tips to make the experience enjoyable. Humberto, our bus driver, did a great job getting us through all the roads that lead to the river with ease. Raul was our raft master! Not only he made us laugh and feel safe at every single turn of the river but he told us many stories in the way about Costa Rica, its beautiful trees and animals. RamÃrez was at the front of the drafts making sure that everyone was safe and frequently asking if we were having a good time. Our 10 year old son described the experience at the end as terrifying but awesome!! He really had a great time and now wants to repeat. Thank you everyone at Los Amigos Del RÃo. We will be back!!

This was our first experience whitewater rafting with our children (13, 11, 8) and it was great! Moses was a wonderful guide with tons of knowledge about all the plants around and great coaching on when to paddle and when to duck. We felt safe the entire time and also felt it was active enough to be a thrilling adventure. The journey to get to the river was long and bumpy and we all stood around outside as the team got the rafts ready. During this time, there were lots of bugs flying around and we got several bites. This isn’t abnormal for being outside in nature, but good to note. We also stopped on the river and walked to (and under!) a beautiful waterfall before having fruit and cookies. The lunch afterwards in their main office back in Quepos was pretty good. I think to make it great, there could have been drink options other than water or tea and there could have maybe been seating that was a bit more spread out. During lunch, they showed us the pictures and gave the option to buy. (I believe it was $15 per person in your group and they sent us the pics via email the next day.)

This was our favorite activity by far! We had a group of 6 and none of us had been white water rafting before. Our guide on the boat, Diego, was great with the kids (10 and 12) and did great job directing us down the river. We stopped half way down and got to walk up to a beautiful waterfall. They were very safety conscious and even had extra guides in kayaks just in case someone fell over. Lunch after the tour was the best one we had on all our activities while in Costa Rica. Would definitely do it again!

Is there a guide in every raft? Do you need any prior experience? Do you need to know to swim?
Randall Y

Yes there is a guide in every boat. The water was low for us so swimming was a non factor. I will say there was a guide in a kayak in the front and back to help anyone who fell out. No one did on our trip and we had a few young children in another boat on our trip if that helps.

Yes. 7am we were picked up. After waiver signing and picking up crew, we got back on the bus and drive around an hour and a half to the river. Rafted around 2 hours (including snack/ waterfall). Then back on bus for about a 30 min ride back and lunch/slide show. We were home by 2
