    Tortuga Island
    Stop: 4 hours
At Tortuga Island you will experience a day full of beautiful skies, great ocean views and live music. On board the yacht savory tropical fruits and refreshing natural drinks will be served. Then, you will explore the island, immersing yourself in the calm clear waters and lush landscape, where you can take a swim, sunbathe, and/or take an optional tour like kayaking or canopy. Then a delicious lunch will be prepared by the crew. Tortuga Island is composed of 120 hectares of gorgeous terrain, with 4 main hills; not to mention a 500 meter beach which is a recipient of the blue flag certification. On the way to Tortuga Island you will see the San Lucas Island which in the past was a security prison where no human rights existed and thus a dark age in Costa Rica´s history.

This was the best trip we took! The drinks and music were great, the staff was friendly and there was more than enough time to do multiple activities. There were enough chairs/seating to not feel overcrowded. There could be some improvements food-wise and we did watch a roach crawl into a crack in the ceiling near the bar. Other than that, and being picked up a few minutes after the expected time, the experience was great. I really appreciated the amount of communication that was involved prior to, during and following the trip. Our tour guide was very informative and made sure to keep up with our group.

This tour has not gotten enough love on this website and I am here to change that. This was hands-down one of the best tours I've ever been on and I have been on many in various countries. If you are looking for a super beachy day-trip with lots of activities options and a completely gorgeous setting, look no further.
From pick-up to drop-off, our guide, Josue, was ON IT. He was very attentive, answered questions and went out of his way to teach us about local wildlife and made sure we walked away with a wonderful experience. This includes bringing around a small, harmless snake he found and a hermit crab for viewing. This doesn't count snorkeling where he and the crew brought up several kinds of starfish for viewing. The boat crew was spectacular as well; very attentive - even taking our trash from us to make sure there was no littering.

A few tips: slather yourself in sunscreen - many times, all the time. You can pay for everything by credit card on the island. Definitely go for a coconut water. Definitely opt for at least one activity - we did snorkeling and it was wonderful (even if I got sunburned!). There are no showers on the island - only on the boat, so plan to be a little salty and sandy all day. The beach is smooth, but it does get rocky/ coral-y, a little ways in to the water - it didn't bother me, but sensitive-feet people might not like it. This is a LONG tour - we were picked up at 6:30 am and were returned around 8:00 pm, traffic pending. They feed you breakfast, lunch and some light snacks on the boat, but it might be wise to bring a few of your own snacks as well if you get hungry. Drinks of all variety are available all day.

This cruise was nice. It wasn't over crowded and the tour guide Joshua was the best. He offered us his hotspot on his cell so that we could have Wifi on the bus. He was very polite and personable. The rest of the staff were okay, mainly catering to the Spanish speaking customers. The island was okay, lots of beach chairs with umbrellas. The beach is very rocky...bring water shoes. The food that was served was very good. I'd recommend it.

I am not a boat or beach person, but my dad was really interested in this trip. It was alright. Breakfast was some ham sandwich thing with fruit. My dad didn't like it at all. I am vegan, so I got a few pieces of fruit. I even put that in the allergens section when you register for the trip, but there were no helpful accommodations made compared to other trips. At lunch I said I was vegan (in Spanish, too), and they tried to give me chicken and fish anyways. I ate a plate of bland vegetables and some rice. I found it interesting how the second booking got beans, rice, and other options, while ours was animal-product heavy. I do not know why they couldn't have offered me a different lunch if it was going to be prepared at the same place. We got free lounging chairs, but they were very close together. It was difficult to move, and got crowded. The island itself was beautiful and we enjoyed the hike. You have to pay for Wi-Fi and the map, but the giftshop was the most affordable around. We were ready after three hours, but you do get five. The guide also talked a lot on the way there, and it was very early. Regardless, we have beautiful pictures and did enjoy the day.

The driver arrived at our hotel 30 minutes early so we had to rush, but that was fine. The catamaran ride was fun, although pretty crowded. The island itself is beautiful and the employees are all really, really nice BUT you're sharing the beach with other tour companies so don't expect it to look like the pictures. The real issue was the bus ride home. Rather than driving us to our hotel, the driver announced that he wanted to leave us in some random part of the city and expect us to get a cab or uber ourselves, even though the ticket we purchased included pickup AND drop off at our hotel. We argued with him and they eventually brought us back to the hotel, but I thought that was pretty shady of them to even consider leaving two women alone in a bad part of the city at 10:00 at night.

My husband and I booked this tour. We were ready at 5:45am and in the lobby waiting to be picked up. We waited until 6:45. No show, no email and no call. I called my credit card company as I had a pending charge for $270. They flagged the charge waiting until posting to dispute it. I called and called the tour company, sent message through Facebook and sent an email. Nothing. I finally called after 8am and they answered. After getting transferred several times I finally talked to a lady who says the person driving that day left early the day before due to a family situation. Not sure if we were just over looked or if the tour really didn’t go. I understand unforeseen situations but an email or phone call should have been made to me. My husband and I rented a car and drove to the beach in Jaco instead. The tour company is suppose to refund the charge but it not American Express has my back which is a great feeling.

I give this tour negative stars. Communication was 1000% of zero importance for this company. We were told to meet at “San Jose Metro” for pickup. Received an email verifying us to meet at “San Jose Metro.” Keep in mind they want you to meet them at 6 am in a very busy part of San Jose. We were unable to find “San Jose Metro” since technically is doesn’t exist. They gave no real address and we called countless times to only talk to operator prompts with no real alternative. Very poorly ran would not waste my time or money on such a poorly ran business. Waiting for a full refund will give update once further information is given.

The van picked us up at 6:30 am. The drive was supposed to 1.5 hours we were told. We arrived at the boat late. The boat tour was 2 hours of very very slow moving with entertainment that was not entertaining. We were on the beach for 5 hours. The advertised stores on the beach was 1 store. We . then had another 2 hour slow ride on the boat back to port and and very long ride back to San Jose. We arrived back in San Jose 3 hours later than scheduled at 9:30 pm.
The breakfast served was awful and the lunch was cold (but would have been good).

This thing is exactly what it should be and totally perfect. I was in Costa for work and some coworkers and friends took our free day and went out in this cruise. So perfect.

They pick you up in a nice bus, give you boxed breakfast and explain everything in both English and Spanish. You arrive and are greeted by awesome staff and drinks and coffee and fresh fruit. The ride out is beautiful and the entertainment is on point. Antonio and the band rock the whole boat!

You arrive and have activities to choose from, bar, gift shop, crazy coconuts (coconut with rum in it), great hot lunch, entertainment, the beach, great views, lounge chairs, Gustavo the bartender will keep bringing drinks to your chair...honestly everything you could want!

The ride back is more entertainment, fresh showers on the back of the boat and banana bread and drinks and fruit! Then everyone sleeps on the bus going home.

Pack- a towel, sunscreen, maybe a sun shirt, flip flops, maybe a hair brush, maybe your own booze if you wana be budget friendly, some cash to tip, and any food preferences if you’re concerned about the selection (we thought it was great). If you snorkel you can bring your own stuff and a go pro or underwater camera. Cell phone backup battery couldn’t hurt as well. Enjoy!!!

Schedule so accurate- about 90min bus, 2 hour boat, 5 hour island, 2 hour boat, 90min bus.

This trip was worthy. They picked me up and dropped me off at my hotel in San José. The Bush ride was comfortable. The trip included plenty of food, including non alcoholic beverages, breakfast, fruits, ceviche, wine and lunch (all includes -no additional fees). But you can purchase alcoholic drinks and beers in the boat and at the Island. The Tortuga Island is beautiful, with amazing views of mountain, nature, and has many activities from which to choose including Kayaking, snorkeling, jetski, etc (for a reasonable fee). The staff is amazingly helpful, friendly and organized. We had 5 hours (regardless of the time we got to the Island) to enjoy the beach at Tortuga Island. The boat ride is approximately 2 hours back and forth and the entertainers did a great job keeping everyone on board happy. I recommend this trip 100%.
