This was a wonderful day trip. Our driver to and from Buenos Aires was a very careful driver and knew some English and conversed. Our guide, Faco, although he is a flight attendant in Buenos Aires, also has family in San Antonio de Areco. He clearly loves his home town and was anxious to communicate his enthusiasm for the town and its history. He was extremely knowledgeable, and told us all about the landmarks and even the flora and fauna. Faco was provided to us by the estancia, but feel free to contact him to guide you through Buenos Aires. Just contact me for his mobile number.

As to the pampas tour, all I can say is be certain to select this tour-one of many offered. The grounds are magnificent and well maintained. Our first stop was a small table on the lawn where the most delicious empanadas I have ever eaten were served. Then, you could either go horseback riding or take a gaucho driven carriage ride into the fields. At 75, our horseback riding days are behind us, but the carriage ride was nice. Following this and taking photos of the horses and resident dogs, we were escorted to a table clothed with a white tablecloth in the trees for lunch. Super lunch with grilled meats and Malbec, which was on the table. Even a delicious dessert was provided. I had told Faco that I wanted try the popular drink, mate, so I tried it, with Faco's encyclopedic knowledge of its history. The lunch table faced the main house, which is also a hotel. You can find it by Googling Estancia El Ombu de Areco.

The information Facu provided about the history of culture of the gauchos in town and at the property were invaluable. A gaucho folk dance was presented with the spectators encouraged to participate (which they did) It was great fun with gaucho musicians providing the background music. The finale came when a gaucho presented his horse, which he had been training for 12 years. Gauchos don't break horses like we do in the US. The stay with the horse, sleep with the animal, and play classical music for it. What the horse could do willingly was amazing. Afterward, you could ride again, or just hang out, which we did. Epic experience.

I did an all day tour to the Estancia (cattle ranch) with Gauchos (cowboys) about 75 miles northwest of Buenos Aries in San Antonio de Areco. The tour van picked me up at my hotel at 8:30 AM and dropped me back off at 6:30 PM. Enrique was the tour guide and he was so nice and knowledgeable. What a fun day!

There were only 6 of us on the tour. When we all get in the van, and after the guide explained the all day itinerary, he starts mixing up a cup of Mate (pronounced Mat-tay). It’s made from Yerba Mate herbs, mixed with hot water and they drink it from a metal straw out of a calabash gourd. It’s sort of like their coffee and I guess you would say their National drink. It was pretty good!

Our first stop was the quaint little town of San Antonio de Areco. We first stopped at a silversmith’s store (silver is real big around here since the Gauchos all wear it). The owner was a cool guy from Italy whose family emigrated here years ago. We then walked across the town square to the quaint little church called Parrochia San Antonio de Padua. The legend has it that the townspeople were being constantly attacked by an indigenous group of people and they prayed to the Saint named Antonio de Padua and said if he spared them, they would build a church in his honor. They were spared and they built the church in 1730.

After leaving the town, we drove further out into the country to the Estancia. They were waiting there for us with drinks (lots of Malbec!) and empanadas (pastry type turnover filled with beef and other savory ingredients). They were so yummy! They showed us the asado (barbecue) they were preparing over the parrilla (grill). While the meat was cooking, they took us out on a 30 minute horse back ride across the pasture. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I hadn’t been on a horse in a long time but it was fun.

When we got back from the ride, they had the food all ready. They started with a salad and then a bowl of boiled type potatoes with hard boiled eggs in them. Both were really good but of course the main show was all the MEAT!! Have you ever been to that place called Chima Steakhouse or any similar Brazilian type Rodizio. It’s where they keep bringing out all kinds of meat until you tell them to stop. That’s what this was. You had to be a carnivore to enjoy it and it was all delicious. They served Bratwursts, Blood Sausage, pork spare ribs, Vacio (flank steak), and Asado de Tira (short ribs). What a feast!

After the meal they played guitars and an accordion and sang traditional gaucho songs. After that, the gauchos showed off their horse riding skills and how they train the horses. One thing they all did was ride really fast toward this small ring hanging down from a post and tried to catch it with a small metal rod. It was really hard to do but they all eventually got it.

It was a great day and nice to get away from the big city and get to explore the countryside. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

First, the guide picked us up right on time which was great. Since the beginning of the trip everything went through smoothly, our guide was great, very knowledgeable, super nice and friendly. The van was comfortable and clean, and the driver was very nice as well. The whole process was great, they confirmed our pick up time the day before through a WhatsApp message and the communication with the agency and our guide was excellent. Our tour guide was Hernán, and we were so pleased that we had him, he definitely made a difference in our tour. The Estancia is beautiful, peaceful and clean. The food was really good and generous. The horse ride was great also, and considering it was our first time riding a horse we had no complaints. Overall, our experience with the tour was exceptional and we definitely recommend it. It is great to leave the city and get yourself a nice day out in the Pampa.

We were picked up at our hotel and then the small group headed to San Antonio de Areco. Our English speaking guide, Sandra, was excellent and very informative on the one and half hour drive into the Pampas. We Had a comfort stop on the way and there was a great tourist shop with a variety of great goods at excellent prices. We then visited interesting places of interest in the town of San Antonio and then headed off to a nearby Estancia, “El Ombu de Areco”. The setting of this Estancia was very beautiful and the management team welcomed us on arrival. We were given really delicious Empanadas and beverage of choice prior to our horse riding experiences which were great fun with plenty of photo opportunities. After that the group gathered for a true “meat fest” BBQ Argentine style. Lots of good food and wine or beer, then we were invited to watch and participate in some singing and dancing outdoors in the gardens of this lovely Estancia, Gauchos style. So much fun. Wonderful experience. Finally we were treated to a special horse training demonstration, like a ballet, extraordinary. Sadly it was then time to leave and to be dropped off back at our hotels. The whole day event was fabulous and Sandra’s input perfect. Thanks also to our excellent coach driver.

This was definitely a highlight of our trip. The trip took the better part of day, we arrived back at our hotel a little after four. We had an incredibly knowledgeable tour guide who was a pleasure to spend time with. We are both vegetarians and the ranch was very accommodating. The ranch itself is beautiful and the horseback riding was definitely a highlight coming from someone who has never done that before.

We also enjoyed getting to see San Antonio and visit a town outside of Buenos Aires, the Silver Museum was a cool side trip before the ranch. If you've never been to Argentina before, I would definitely add this to your list.

Our guide, “Amy” was fun and informative! She gave us lots of information about gauchos and their history in Argentina. The time at the ranch was full, empanadas, horseback riding (some folks rode in a wagon), rancho meal, dance, singing and a horse demonstration. Well worth the time.

This was a long day, with some 4 hours of it bus travel.
The visit to the town on the way was of minor interest, my view was it was just a filler, although the silversmith was interesting. I would have liked an opportunity to browse for items to purchase.
The ranch was welcoming and very pretty. It is also a B&B so there were guests there, as well a several other tour groups, so there were a number of people around.
The trail ride was extremely sedate, fine for those with minimal or no experience, but I suspect disappointing for anyone who can ride.
Lunch was a seemingly endless supply of BBQ meat, beef, lamb and chicken, served over a couple of hours. Then there was an extremely short display of traditional dancing and one young Gaucho showing us how he can lay his horse down and lay on it.
This aspect of the day was disappointing. I had expected to be shown a display of Gaucho skills and horsemanship, but this was not the case.
Altogether it was an extremely expensive BBQ with a side serve of entertainment.

We were picked up from our city hotel and drive in a small group out of city, with couple of short stops the journey took 2hrs. We were welcomed and given horses for our ride. Carriage ride was also available for anyone not wanting to horseback ride.
The horse riding was most enjoyable for us, I haven't ridden for 20+ years the horses were very docile and the ground easy for them.
We had a good asado (bbq) drinks were included and wine unlimited. There was a demo of dancing and we were invited to join in. The house and escacdo were lovely grounds and buildings, very typical of the Argentina of previous century.
We enjoyed being out of the city for a day, highly recommended.

We enjoyed this tour because it was a chance to see and experience a culture that is unique and not “big city”. Our tour guide, Augustine, was knowledgeable. He provided history and information as we drove in the city to pick up other guests. He was always willing to answer all our questions. We chose the carriage ride instead of the horse ride. Lunch was plentiful. The entertainment was great. Bypass the crowds, skyscrapers, and noise. Enjoy the beautiful Argentinian land and historical culture.

This Gaucho Day tour to El Ombu was great. Our guide, Laura, was exceptional. She explained our stops and what we would be doing at the ranch in detail. She went the extra mile, not only giving us a mate demonstration complete with hot water from her thermos, but passing around the mate cup to give everyone who wanted, a sip.
Before our optional horseback ride, which was a lot of fun, delicious empanadas were served and then, when we returned, we were treated to an asado that featured many cuts of beef and pork. Next, there were Argentine dances, audience participation, and a horse whisperer demonstration, which was also unique.
A great guide (and driver Luis) make for a great tour. It was indeed a great day!
