Highlights
Spectacular views of the Andes as you drive the Route 9 highway
Incredible photo opportunities at Seven Colors Hill in Humahuaca
Visit four different Andean towns in one day
Hassle-free pickup and drop-off from your Salta hotel
What to expect
After pickup at your hotel in Salta, board your comfortable coach for the scenic drive to the 95-mile-long (155-km) valley of Quebrada de Humahuaca. Through your guide's commentary, learn about how the Incas once used this gorge as a caravan road and later as a commercial route during the colonial period.  Arrive in Purmamarca to see Cerro de los Siete Colores (Seven Colors Hill,) a large natural formation looming over the town. Stroll through the streets of the small village, visiting the cacti-covered church and perusing handicrafts at the local market.  Continue toward Tilcara, where you will visit the archaeological museum and the town square. First, stop at a scenic viewpoint on the way into town to see some pre-Incan ruins. Pass through Huacalera, admire the colorful La Pollera de la Coya, and see paintings dating from the 1600s in Uquía. Stop in Humahuaca, the most densely populated city in the area, for a stroll midday. See the Monument of Independence, the local cathedral, and admire paintings from the Cuzco School. Enjoy lunch at your own expense.  Heading back toward Salta, you'll pass La Paleta del Pintor (Painter's Palette) and stop in San Salvador de Jujuy. Visit the town's cathedral and the French Baroque–style Flag's Hall before moving on to the Government House.  Continue south on winding Route 9, which provides stunning views of local vegetation, the Santa Laura Pass, Campo Alegre and Vaqueros. Arrive back in Salta after your day-long adventure for hotel drop-off.

For an elderly, solo traveller iin Salta this day trip was a great way to see the extraordinary landscape of ancient cactus forest and stunning, multi coloured mountains as well as the mud brick villages, especially Panamurca, which seemed to be flourishing. The guide spoke excellent English and was intelligent, well educated and responsive. Lunch following an unexpected hailstorm was somewhat chaotic but fun, with terrific local musicians.

Fascinating area of Argentina, but poor sound system on mini-bus
Nov 2019
We made a short trip from Buenos Aires to Salta to take this tour and overall, we were disappointed. The bus was 20 minutes late in picking us up at the hotel and the tour ended 30 minutes early. The guide was knowledgeable, but the sound system was very poor and it was difficult to understand what he was saying, despite being told several times that the sound was bad. I sat in the first row right next to him to try to understand what he was saying. Several of the stops were rushed and we felt at the end of the day when we arrived back at the hotel early that we should have spent more time exploring the interesting sites. No map or any sort of printed material was provided - all information was passed on through a terrible sound system and a guide who lacked energy and enthusiasm.

Dear John Goebelbecker, Thank you for your comments. We regret that the tour did not meet all your expectations. However, we would like to emphasize that the tour you booked was a regular activity. So the schedules are estimates, they are not exact. This is because other people also participate in the tour. On the other hand, we apologize for the bad functioning of the microphone that day. Please know that this inconvenience has been solved. We hope you have enjoyed the beautiful landscapes of northern Argentina. We appreciate your time to leave us your comments. Scenery was beautiful, but . . .

The place the tour company took us for lunch was horrible—fixed prices, way overpriced for quality, and not tasty. I said something to tour director and he said it was the best in town!

Beautiful sights!
Mar 2019 • Couples
The trip is very long, but well worth it. The stops were picturesque and our guide, Maru, shared many historical facts in Spanish and English throughout the day. The church in Uquia and the 'ángel arcabucero' paintings were fascinating. The only down part to the day was when we were herded into a restaurant with other bus groups for lunch, being offered a set menu with few choices for a flat price. The tour description said lunch was not included, but this was not what I anticipated. Would so much rather have had lunch on our own in a local place instead. Both drivers of the bus were excellent.

A long but worthwhile day
This was a great tour, hitting the highlights of the area. It’s perfect if you have limited time but want to pack it all in. The seven colours Hill in particular is not to be missed.

Monica was a fabulous guide. We were the only English speakers so I was worried we might miss out a bit but not at all! Monica made a big effort to include us and is extremely knowledgable and friendly.

The bus was immaculate and comfy, and the and driver was great.

Overall I thought that, although this is a long day it was well worth it and the whole tour value for money.

I would recommend this trip!
