We had a fantastic sailing experience with Captain David! It was a highlight of our trip to Miami!

We scheduled the 3 pm tour. Captain David texted us directions the night before and asked if we could sail at 2 pm as conditions looked more promising a little earlier in the day. They have a dry bag and small cooler available, but be aware that it is shared so try to pack light.

We were scheduled with another couple who asked to be returned to the dock earlier than the normal time due to other plans. Captain David was able to accommodate both parties- we dropped them off at their scheduled time after snacks at a beautiful beachy spot and then he took us back out for some additional sailing time.

We spotted dolphins, used the trapeze, and saw Miami in a whole new and beautiful way! We even ended up staying out to watch the sunset!

It is clear that Captain David is passionate about Biscayne Bay and loves what he does! We enjoyed hearing about the wildlife and ecosystems in the bay as well as stories about the sailboat community there. He was also a fantastic host, bringing some healthy snacks and beverages to enjoy, and he took great pictures and videos of us along the way too!

Salty Miami’s website says that they aim for an experience that feels “less like a touristy tour and more like going out sailing with a friend” and they nailed it! We left feeling like friends and will definitely be back if we visit Miami again! Best of luck on the Everglades Challenge Captain David!

We had a fantastic sail with Diego! Someone else wrote that it’s like going out on a sail with a friend with a HobyCat, and that’s exactly how it is! We were a little slow getting started but it gave time to get to know the other people on the trip- there were 5 of us + Diego. Great folks, as you would expect on this kind of activity. We had a movie-worthy adventure, as the winds were quite strong, but Diego was calm and capable. You will get wet since you will be on a catamaran (as they advertise) so plan accordingly. I wasn’t quite sure what to do about snacks and beverages, but the crew had it covered. There is a paid parking lot by the meeting point, enter that and get your ticket validated at the Coast Guard building. There are bathrooms there too. Highly recommend.

We were a family of 10 on 2 catamarans for an afternoon adventure. It was sunny but very windy and quite chilly, but that didn’t stop us from having a great day! We sailed to stiltsvillle (the original purpose was to see a bit of Biscayne NP) - our captains, Juan Pablo and Diego were both so knowledgeable and friendly! Most importantly they were very skilled sailors and although they battled the wind and waves, they made it look easy and we always felt safe. We stopped at a sandbar for drinks and snacks before sailing as the sun set back to the marina. Throughout the adventure we saw manatees (in the marina), sharks, turtles, sting rays, lots of birds and a humongous star fish.
Tips- we got started later than scheduled so I’d recommend not scheduling anything after.
Only take snacks and drinks if you want something in particular. We brought our own beer (they did have wine and water) and snacks (they had snacks). If it’s cool, wear lightweight sleeves but know that ALL OF YOU will likely get wet. Pack minimally. Have dry clothes in your car to change into after the excursion. Tip your captains. ENJOY!

We booked through the Salty Miami site, so it wasn’t actually a private tour (there was another lovely couple with us on their honeymoon who I hope weren’t expecting a private tour), and it was listed as 3 hours (versus 3.5) although our time on the water wound up being the full 3.5 hours.

Originally, we had arranged for an afternoon sail, but the day before they let us know that the water would likely be too crowded because of the holiday at our scheduled time, so with some rearranging on both ends, we were able to reschedule for late morning on the same day. It wound up being the highlight of our short Miami stay.

JP was a wonderful captain and I was surprised by the snacks and drinks provided (we brought some of our own as well). We didn’t get to see much wildlife (I learned that I need to come in the cooler months to maybe see manatees), but it was just nice being out on the water, and wading and playing around on an uncrowded sandbar.

This is definitely something that I’d suggest to others visiting Miami and something that I’d do again. I just suggest keeping the day open, so that you can be flexible with the sailing time depending on the wind and weather. And bring a waterproof camera case if you want to take pics along the way.

We had an amazing time on this tour. Our captain was very knowledgeable about the area and ensured everyone had fun! We had snacks and drinks on a sandbar looking at the city, checked out some mangroves, and took in the beautiful sunset! I highly recommend this tour if you’re visiting Miami! I can’t think of a better way to see this special area.

My significant other and I enjoyed the cruise, but felt unsafe a few times. The owners texted and responded well to our phone calls and questions. We paid $20 for parking because they changed the pickup location at the last minute. This is because they had another race out on the docks. We set sail around 30 minutes late but we were relaxing and enjoying the friendly service. We went out and caught some wind and saw a lot of wildlife including cormorants and Japanese man o war jellyfish. The other three members on the boat were confused and thought it was a sailing boat but really it's a wind and paddle powered light catamaran. We got to a sandbar and saw a beautiful sunset and starfish. We really enjoyed this part and the snacks. It was all good until the wind died and the sun went down and we had zero lights on the catamarans for water safety. We could have easily been hit by a speeding boat and killed. We barely had clean life jackets and they were not required.
Ultimately we were quickly reached and rescued by a gentleman who took photos of us and had a stern conversation with the tour guides about water safety and repeated rescues from recent months. Our tour guide did not even have a flashlight or a way to get back to shore without this tow boats help. Lastly, we were lost trying to find our way back to the car from the random dock, so we had to walk down a a dark and busy road for a quarter mile searching for a bathroom.
Like I said...good but not perfect.

Dear Patricio, We are sorry you did not fully enjoy the experience. Your captain David, is certified by the U.S. Sailing Association and the U.S Coast Guard, he has been sailing for over 20 years in Biscayne Bay. Our business is fully insured and in compliance with local regulations. We take our guests' safety seriously. For this reason, we avoid stormy and high wind days, as well as high traffic areas. We have a flashlight on each boat to ensure our sailing vessel is fully visible during twilight and we have vests onboard for every guest as per local law. Our tour is a one-of-a-kind experience on 17-feet Hobie Getaway catamarans, these sailboats are safe for people of all ages. As seen in our reviews, hundreds of people from 6 months old to 75 years old have enjoyed it safely. However, we understand it may not be an experience for everyone. While we monitor weather forecasts and radars from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) very closely, we cannot control changing weather or third party community events (like sailing races). Additionally, we do count with several safety resources, including a Sea Tow membership (acct. #918-4655538) if the wind isn't strong enough to sail or if a guest needs assistance and we need to be towed. We appreciate your taking the time to leave your feedback. We will take this as an opportunity to make our experience even better. It was an amazin adventure for my wife and me. Juan took very good care of everyone on board, had some snacks and water. He took us out to good spots to view dolphins, then to a sand bar to dip in the water, keep deep, then we went out to deeper part and had a chance to swim there. Overall all it was an awesome experience, I recommend him if anyone wants to go out and experience one on one interaction.

One of the best tours we have ever taken in any location. David was a wonderful guide - courteous, knowledgeable and just a pleasure to spend time with. We learned about the bay environment, had great views of the city skyline and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. David was prepared with a nice selection of refreshments and took many photos to document our trip. We encourage anyone visiting the Miami area to take advantage of this offering.

Juan gave a wonderful experience on his Hobby Cat. Although we didn't have much wind, we couldn't have asked for a nicer day or had more fun! None of the 4 of us had ever been out on a small sail boat before. He taught my husband how to work the rudder and tack. He proved a swim mask and led me on a swim from the island that included finding a stingray, barracudas, a large, live conch shell, puffer fish and other interesting things. Juan provided great snacks, information on things we saw (World Cup racing practice) was friendly and helpful. He replied to texts letting me know where to park for free and asked if a later for time would work to have more breeze. I highly recommend booking a sailing experience with Juan.

Juan is the best tour guide, welcoming, friendly and def knows a ton about sailing! We had a wonderful time in the ocean.
Juan was making sure that we all were having a good time, he took amazing photos, constantly checked in with us, he even has white claw and delicious coconut cookies in the cooler. Nothing can be better than drinking white claw while watching a beautiful sunset.
I also tried Trapeze on the sailboat, the waves were rough but exciting. Juan provided detailed and comprehensive instructions on how to Trapeze and, even though I was constantly throwing over by the wave, I still enjoyed it a lot.
Def recommend it to everyone who wants to have a chill and exciting experience in the ocean!
