What to expect
  • When you arrive at either the Fisherman’s Wharf or Union Square location to pick up your bike, a staff member will provide you with a safety orientation so that you feel comfortable with your new ride. Here, you can also familiarize yourself with some of the city’s numerous cycling routes. You’ll have a range of bicycles to choose from, including a comfort hybrid or mountain bike, tandem or electric, and kids’ bicycles are also available. A helmet, bike lock, bike bell and rear rack (along with a bungee cord for securing backpacks) are all provided, as well as a city map complete with layouts of San Francisco cycling routes. Once you’re all geared up, it’s time to start exploring! If you’re leaving from Fisherman’s Wharf, you can follow a mostly flat route that meanders along San Francisco Bay into Fort Mason, continuing through the Marina and into the Presidio, where you’ll reach historic Fort Point. From here, it’s an upward (though well worth it) climb to the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers fantastic views of the San Francisco skyline, as well as Alcatraz and Angel Island. Once across the bridge, enjoy a downhill roll into Sausalito, a lovely seaside town. You can also continue on into Tiburon or Mill Valley, home to some of California’s iconic redwood trees. For your return trip, choose between the Golden Gate Bridge or a scenic ferry ride from either Sausalito or Tiburon. For a similar route from Union Square, ride east along the Embarcadero, past the triangle Transamerica Pyramid and Coit Tower, a 210-foot-tall monument rising from atop Telegraph Hill. From here, you can hook up with the Fisherman’s Wharf path that leads to the Golden Gate Bridge. Another Union Square option is venturing west along Market Street to ‘The Wiggle,’ one of the city’s most popular bike routes since it bypasses numerous hills for a flat ride into Golden Gate Park. At the corner of Scott and Fell streets, consider taking a one-block detour north to Alamo Square. The eastern side of this well-known park is home to the Victorian ‘Painted Ladies,’ beyond which is one of the city’s prettiest views of the SF skyline. Snap a pic, then continue onto into Golden Gate Park, past the Conservatory of Flowers and the park’s resident buffalo, eventually making your way to the Pacific Ocean. The bike is yours for a full 24 hours, so feel free to continue exploring on your own. There’s plenty to see, from San Francisco’s vibrant North Beach neighborhood to the Mission District, where a burrito stop is definitely in order. Return your bike to the same location where you picked it up.

Bike the Bridge....A MUST do!!!!
Oct 2021
I am SOOOO glad we rented bikes from Blazing Saddles! I was a little nervous about riding across the bridge and down the hill into Sausalito but it was so much fun and it was very easy! We DID elect to get the electric assist bikes which I HIGHLY recommend for this ride. It made the hills no problem at all. The bikes are easy to learn and the electric assist is easy to turn on and off. They offer you a free beverage at The Joinery restaurant in Sausalito and you can park your bike there for free if you eat in the restaurant. It's a great restaurant and right in the center of town. We made the trek on to Mill Valley which is a must! Mill Valley is a super cute town and the homes there are amazing. We stopped into the park in Mill Valley to see the redwoods there and had a snack and a rest. There is also a bathroom stop at the Mill Valley park then we rode back to Sausalito for lunch. We had such a great time we deferred the ferry ride back and rode our bikes back across the GG bridge. Riding across the bridge is something you do not want to miss when you visit San Francisco. The staff at Blazing Saddles are great and they boosted my confidence that I could make the ride as we left the bike garage. When we returned in the evening the same crew was there and they cheered me on and had us ride to the "finish line" in the bike garage. Such a great day and a highlight of our San Fran trip!!!

Wow, sounds like you had a great day on your bike and really took advantage of having the e-bikes to see so much of the Bay Area! Glad you were able to enjoy the redwood trees in Old Mill Park before having lunch in Sausalito. Extra kudos for riding back over the bridge!

Better than expected
Oct 2021
We had out of town guests and wanted to do the very popular Bike the Bridge in to Sausilito. Everyone found it a fantastic day. I chose Blazing Saddles based on location and price, They gave a good discount for booking (and paying on line). I was able to buy the ferry tickets on their site as well. After going back and forth and reading several reviews, we opted for the ebikes. Everyone was happy with that decision. None of us have ever ridden them before, but it made for a pleasant fun day. We were outside and riding, but it was fairly effortless and we could easily make a lot of side trips along the way. All of us were impressed on how you just zip up the hills just like you're riding downhill. The pick up was simple as they have a Kiosk (with the bikes) right next to the ferry stop. It couldn't have been easier at the end of the day to return the bikes. It's super touristy area, so it was a little dodgy getting through the pedestrian and car traffic in that area, but the bike path was not too far away. I think it helped that we went on a Friday instead of the weekend. Nothing was too crowded. Actually biking on the bridge, I think would have been better on the weekend since pedestrians and bikes use the same side of the bridge and it gets a little narrow in some areas and there are pedestrians taking up most of the space and road bikers that cut in and out without waiting for anyone (Shame if they had to slow down, so everyone else needs to get out of their way). When we crossed the bridge into Vista Point, we had a hard time finding our way to Cozelman road to continue to Sausilito. The policeman monitoring the parking lot told us to go under the bridge. We had to go down a set of stairs and then back up and this was no easy task since the stairs are very steep and the ebikes are super heavy!! After that it was a very pretty ride into Sausilito. I believe there is a way to ride over to the other side of the bridge without stairs. I'm not sure why there aren't signs, why the people we asked didn't tell us and why Blazing Saddles didn't tell us. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I was really petrified going down those stairs!

So glad that your ride was even better than you expected! I'm so glad you decided on the electric bikes because they are great. You actually did not need to take the stairs under the bridge as there is a path on both sides of the bridge that lead you to Sausalito. Come visit us again!

Blazing Saddles bike rental is a San Francisco MUST!
Oct 2021
No San Francisco trip would be complete without bikes from Blazing Saddles! Our Go City pass (highly recommended) enabled us to get bikes for 3 days during our 7 day stay in San Francisco in October 2021. Each day they insured that our bikes were safe and ready for use along with a great send off. Bikes were all in excellent condition. Each return, we were greeted with cheers for crossing the "finish line" in the garage. They got to know and greet us by name by the third day! All of the staff were super with a special shout out to Xenia who offered great sightseeing tips for Angel Island. Other staff also offered great sightseeing tips for San Francisco. Highly Recommended!!!

Great Experience!!
Sep 2021 • Friends
My brother and I rented bikes all day from the Fisherman’s Wharf location. Everyone that worked there was SO friendly and energetic; it was just a positive environment! They have you watch a video of where to go to bike to the Golden Gate Bridge and across it, and they also give you a map to take with you! All their bikes come with helmets and they give you a coupon for a place to eat in Sausalito if you bike that far! Overall a great experience and one of my favorite things to do while I was in San Francisco. I highly recommend!!

Great Rental Bikes
Sep 2021
We rented bikes and then explored the city on our own. I think most people do the bridge tour and take the ferry back, but we wanted to do our own thing. It was a great experience and the bikes were solid and well maintained. The rental process was very fast and easy and there were plenty of bikes.

Exercise with a view
We had a wonderful but exhausting time biking over the Golden Gate Bridge. As 60 somethings, we wished we had an electric bike, but we made it to Sausalito! We had a sunny day so the pictures and views were good. The staff at Blazing Saddles were very good as well.

What a great way to experience this city and the surrounding area of Sausalito. The staff at Blazing Saddles were having more fun than you can imagine. They were happy, excited to help customers, thorough, accommodating and competent. It was like they were having a party in the midst of doing business. What a great corporate culture!! When we returned, the entire staff cheered us "across the finish line."

We rode our bikes over to Sausalito and back again. The ride was spectacular even though the weather was pretty awful: cold, misty and high winds. Nevertheless, we prevailed. Lesson: wear the appropriate clothes, especially layers and gloves.

We got lost on the way back while trying to find the bridge entrance so get detailed instructions on what to do. Some of the signage is confusing (not the fault of Blazing Saddles) but perhaps they can sketch out a map for that end of the trip for you. Thankfully other bikers helped us find our way.

We rode for 6 full hours on the e bikes. Mine worked flawlessly but my husband's wasn't so cooperative, perhaps not fully charged? We reported that and hopefully it has been repaired.

Enjoy the ride!!
