Fabulous hands on science museum for all ages - more than you can see in one day.
Exhibits are hands on with explanations.
Make your reservations ahead of time - they sometimes sell out.
We arrived at 10 and spent 4 hours there.
While you can not eat inside the museum, there are plenty of benches in their outdoor space where you can eat. I strongly advise you to bring your own lunch. The day we were there (a Thursday in August) the restaurant was closed and the cafe had about 3 overpriced sandwiches. Shame on them!
Otherwise, this is a world class museum and a must for any visit to San Francisco

Fun for all ages. If you have time after seeing the SF sights, visit the Exploratorium. Hands on. Fast activities on all science, including social. It is inside, loud, sensory stimulation overload, but sure worth the time. Enjoyed going in different directions and sharing what we found and then talking later.

Our children have been coming here for years. The acres of hands-on science experiments guarantee a full day of fun. It takes days to discover everything, so be prepared to miss half the museum if you are only able to visit for one day.

Tips- Start in the back to avoid the lines in the front. Stop by the thermal imaging cameras to see your body heat. Bring food if you can, as the wharf is a tourist trap.

We were looking forward to visiting after reading lots of positive reviews. It would have been useful to have been provided with a map of the different galleries so we knew what was where. It was quite a stressful experience when we visited on a Sunday in July (perhaps these are busier days) - there were people everywhere, which made it difficult to look at the exhibits properly as you felt rushed or crowded. Unfortunately we also encountered several people with no manners, who proceeded to stand in our way or not wait their turn to look at exhibits. All visitors had to wear masks; we do understand the need for this but it was warm in the museum so we felt quite stifled by the heat and masks. Food in the restaurant also seemed overpriced (nearly $10 for two packs of crisps and one can of pop!) Due to the reasons mentioned, this was not the most enjoyable of experiences for us so we didn’t spend long at the Exploratorium. Maybe if we’d have visited on a quieter day, we would have enjoyed it more.

If you have kids and are visiting San Francisco (or are a resident of the Bay Area), the Exploratorium is a must.

This is one of the most engaging museums I've ever been to, fun for both kids and adults alike. My five-year-old son loves coming to the Exploratorium - there is so much to do that even after visiting a total of 6 times last year, we still find new things to do and see every time we come.

We've even driven in from where we live in the East Bay on a number of occasions and found free parking just a few streets away. Highly recommend!

This place is AMAZING!! First of all I had trouble with my international card and a wonderful staff member invited us to attend as her guest as she didn’t want us to miss out. We were blown away by the kindness.

There are SO many awesome hands on activities for all ages. My sons aged 15, 12 & 8 all found things they really enjoyed. Even after spending most of the day there we didn’t manage to do everything.

We are travelling and home schooling and the quality off exhibits from a learning perspective was excellent. The live demonstrations were really neat and the demonstrators were friendly and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful way to spend the day and I would highly recommend it.

The Exploratorium is my favorite place in San Francisco! I’ve loved it at every stage of my life from childhood to adulthood. They have fabulous hands on exhibits that are understandable for children and are elevated for adults. Its a fabulous place to take the kids or go on a date night.

This place is amazing! We are a family of 10, ages 5 to 72 and we all found it exciting and fun and informative. We had timed entry but you can get a stamp and go out for lunch and then return to make it a full day event. Not to be missed Science experience, even for non scientists:-)

As a native San Franciscan, I've loved this museum my entire life. My wife and I even had our wedding reception there (at the Palace of Fine Arts location). It's a magical place. I recommend it to anyone visiting San Francisco.

I have visited the Exploratorium many times over the years, and I always discover something new every time I go. It's a great place to entertain friends and out of town guests, as it gives you something to talk about, a shared experience where the enthusiasm of your guests fuels your own enthusiasm and curiosity. Many classic exhibits are fun to show off to people who have never been there before, and there are always new exhibits to explore here and there. Never not a fun and interesting time at the Exploratorium! Definitely 5 stars!
