My brother and I purchased this tour for the wine and the opportunity to ride in the vintage VW bus.

I will preface this review by stating that it may not be for everyone- the VW is old, cramped and lacks Airconditioning. But that is part of the charm. My brother and I were born in the 60s and have fond memories of rides in VW’s throughout our childhood.

We loved the fun van and the camaraderie of making new friends on our tour. If you are an extrovert that loves to meet new people and enjoy adventure then I recommend this tour.

Our van had 8 passengers plus our guide Gurkan. Chris and I were assigned to sit in the front bench seat adjacent to the driver and the manual gearshifter. It was exhilarating to sit in front with the wind blowing through the windows.

The complete tour from the Golden Gate Bridge stop to each of the wineries was awesome!! Gurkan strikes the right balance of talk/information as well as playing music and quiet time.

All three wineries were great. The wine tasting fees are not included in the tour fee and some of the wineries deleted the fee in exchange for purchasing bottles. For my palate, the wines ranged from average in taste to excellent. Chris and I ultimately purchased a few bottles from each of the wineries. Wine diapers were available for purchase at the first winery and are perfect for safely transporting wine in checked luggage.

Our tour had people from Australia, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. We all quickly made friends. The lunch at VJB Wineries was at our own expense and was excellent. Our group of 8 ordered a variety of flatbread, pizza, salad and charcuterie. I treated the group to a chocolate variety box. We all shared and everyone had a great time. The food was excellent.

Chris and I highly recommend this tour!!!!

It was my second time touring with the company. I think I will make it a habit that every time I visit SF, I will take a wine tour with them. They are absolutely phenomenal and the attention, the quality and the time spent is 100% the best in the country! The curated wine makers that you will experience and visit are excellent and the whole experience is just extremely satisfying and elevated. The first time I toured with the company I visited 3 different wine makers and I thought I may have some repeats but I was shockingly surprised to visit 3 different ones. Our guide Cousin Al (we called him uncle Al), was super attentive to us. He provided us with super cool stories and facts about the area and he even stopped by a store to pick up some snacks for us. I assure you that your experience with them will be as enjoyable (if not better) as my group's experience. Will blindly recommend this tour to anyone visiting SF or any locals!

Had a great time on this trip. My husband and I went to 3 different wineries accompanied by Gurkan. Gurkan was super knowledgable and friendly throughout the day. The group was small with just one other couple so we felt very lucky to have such a personal experience. We went to Roche family, Deerfield and another one which I can’t remember the name off but served amazing deli food!

Coming from england we weren’t aware what winefees were so be warned that you will end up spending at least an additional $75 each on top of what this trip costs but this is standard of any wine tour.

Overall we would 100% recommend this tour for anyone looking for a great service, with a range of wineries in a fun VW camper. Thank you Gurkan for your expertise!

Thanks G~rkan and Painted Ladies Tour Company for an excellent day wine tasting in Sonoma. The entire day was so enjoyable and so well run, especially what ended up being a private tour for just my sister and I.

All 3 vineyards were so well selected and the authentic Italian lunch was a highlight.

Highly recommend the Painted Ladies Tour Company for any tours around SF and in particular the Somoma Wine Tasting Tour if you enjoy your wine!

Getting to and from Sonoma for a wine tour is usually so hard & expensive. I loved that this tour keeps it really easy w. the pick ups in the city, and you get to enjoy the ride over the bridge on your way up. Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful (took tons of pix for us!) and we went to 3 places that were all pretty unique. I loved the experience and would definitely do it again.

This trip was so awesome! Would 100% recommend to anyone who is in SF and wants to enjoy wine country without having to do any planning at all. The pickup spot was very easy to find (also very easy to spot the bus!) We loved the smaller tour size, it made the trip much more enjoyable. Our tour guide, Cousin Al, was so great! He was very knowledgeable about the different wineries and also with the Bay Area. He made our experience so much fun and was great to get to know him along the trip.

Our trip was myself & my sister and we were joined by two other women so our tour was on the smaller side but we really loved that about this trip. I can’t imagine doing a wine tour on one of those big coach busses after having an experience like this!

The buses are charming but unfortunately we had a bit of car trouble before leaving SF. However, the Painted Ladies more than made up for it. They were great, with several surprises throughout the day to make up for what was, really, a minor inconvenience.

As to the Wine Tour, our guide (Kohio, I am probably spelling it wrong) was friendly, had a fun personality, and did great job of pointing out sights and telling us more about them. He made the trip fun and the views were lovely on the way out to Sonoma. He was a good driver as well.

We went to three wineries. The first one was picture perfect, situated in the middle of the vineyard with pretty furniture, but the wine was not to our liking.

The next two wineries were much better and the winery with the onsite 'deli' was awesome. They describe it as a deli, but really it was much more than that. I had the burrata board- it had two large puffs of burrata drizzled with balsamic, perfect golden buttery flatbread. and fresh tomatoes sprinkled with basil and laced with more balsamic. So nice. The wines there were very good but the food was the star of the show (we were starving as our delay in the morning put our arrival for lunch around 1:45 - without the delay we would have been there earlier). Everyone in our group was so busy eating and sharing (yes, we were strangers and we shared - that is how jovial the atmosphere was!) that the wines almost became an after thought. It would have been nice to have the tasting first and then pick a glass of wine to drink with lunch after the tasting.

The third winery was very cool. It's hard to top a wine tasting in an actual wine cave 75' under ground. A beautifully furnished wine cave! Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the wine and the wine making process at their winery. I had to buy wines here and can't wait to indulge in them!

This was a really nice trip and like I said, we had a bit of a delay in the morning (but that seems to be unusual for them in reading other reviews). Things happen and Painted Ladies really went out of their way to make sure we were happy.

Highly recommend this tour for a fun and enlightening day.

What a day - fun, fun, fun from start to finish! Loved everything about the Shaggy mobile & Pickles (Gurt - our guide for the day!) We rocked the van all the way from San Fran & back. The 3 wineries were a good choice. We are bit more experienced wine drinkers and Pickles was very knowledgeable. I wish the first winery which was in the cave would have given a bit more information on wines though. Highly recommend this tour for a fun day in Wine country!

This experience was absolutely fantastic. From the warm greeting at the hotel pick-up to the drop off after a wonderful day was just great all around. Cyrus our driver was so fun. He was talkative, informative and a perfect host! We were a party of 4 and we were joined by another 4. You would have thought that we were hand picked for each other. Everyone had an absolute ball. The vineyards that were chosen were all unique and different from one another, and the tasting representatives were all super informative and knowledgeable. Lunch was at an adorable courtyard. I would highly recommend this tour to really anyone wanting a greatly priced day in wine country!

Cousin Al made our day delightful. We stopped at three wineries. One was in a cave and had the best wine I ever tasted. The second had really interesting owners to talk to. The third winery was beautiful and relaxing. We stopped at a charming winery for lunch, and the food was delicious. We were excited to ride in Poppy, the orange VW. Painted ladies owners and tour guides really care about making your experience memorable. Highly recommend.
