About
Discover winter in Alaska’s Arctic! Experience for yourself the legendary hospitality and authentic interpretation that made the original Arctic Circle Drive Adventure famous.  Travel north on the famed Dalton Highway. View the remarkable Trans Alaska Pipeline. Experience the mighty Yukon River. Explore up close the amazing arctic tundra. Cross the Arctic Circle and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. Spend 2 nights in Coldfoot, Alaska -- located directly under the Aurora Oval.  This is where the lights begin and branch out from here.  While no one can guarantee you the lights, you can help increase your odds by travelling at the right time of the year (when our nights are dark), get yourself as close to the source as possible (in Coldfoot directly under the oval) and then stay up all night.

Beyond my expectations/ excellent service
Mar 2021
From my 1st inquiry via email to my final drop off at my hotel after the trip, this company was always prompt with response and information. Steve was a wealth of knowledge and provided responses expediently along with Erica at the main office. I was traveling alone on the 3 day, 2 night tour and the care, concern, guide knowledge, hospitality from Tim, our first guide on the bus tour to the entire staff at Coldfoot Camp (John, Ben, Tim 2, Dan) to all the optional excursions with Steve for the dog sled tour, Jack and his assistance with setting us all up to photograph of the aurora and Tim on the fat tire bike tour was above and beyond my expectations. I knew I was in good hands and the overall experience of just seeing the aurora, being in the Alaskan wilderness away from the hustle/bustle of the city topped with the excellent service from Northern Alaska Tour Company and all the guides and staff is a trip worth taking which I will gladly do all over again.

Arctic Circle Adventure
Mar 2021
These guys and girls made a trip into the arctic circle a wonderful experience. They have a wealth of knowledge about the land and the area that they are excited about and love to share it. All of the tour guides are extremely easy to work with, and I appreciate the effort they put into making the harsh arctic more enjoyable for us mainlanders. My dad and I did 3 days and 2 nights in Coldfoot. The Coldfoot Inn is very cozy and the beds were the best beds I slept in for the entire time I was in Alaska (we were in Alaska for a week, 2 nights of which were with the Northern Alaska Tour Company in Coldfoot); despite sub-zero temperatures outside, the inn was comfortable and warm. The northern lights are magical, and watching them in the mountains from an old mining outpost make them even more so! And the Brooks mountain range is simply majestic; it’s so different from the other ranges I’ve seen (Cascades, Alps, and Blue Mountains). I highly recommend choosing the Northern Alaska Tour Company to guide your trip into the arctic circle. Enjoy!

Thank you for the detailed review of your Arctic Circle Aurora Adventures with us. We appreciate you taking the time to share with others. AND, appreciate you sharing your experience and review of the Brooks Mountain Range -- often we are asked what I am going to see, I am already spending time in the Alaska Mountain Range - trying to explain the difference in a phone call versus seeing them is not an easy task -- they are different and so glad you were able to experience them. Thank you for joining us and best wishes for a bright spring!

I've traveled with Northern Alaska Tour Company at least 7 times and it's always been great! The people are amazing, and I've learned so much about the local history, climate and people.

Don Kiely was especially awesome as he sang to us on the way back to Fairbanks. He truly has a love for the state and all it has to offer.

Coldfoot/Pipeline Tour
Mar 2020
We drove to Coldfoot on the guided tour bus and returned by Air. Spent 2 nights in Coldfoot and had a great time. Saw the lights on the Wiseman tour. Also did the Safari and sled dog run. We had a great time. Everything was so organized and the people so friendly that took care of us.

Took the 3 night tour to Coldfoot
Dec 2019
We took the extended 3 night tour to Coldfoot, driving north on the Dalton Hwy across the Yukon River and the Arctic Circle and flying back to Fairbanks. This was truly the trip of a lifetime. Wonderful guides, comfortable accommodations. The beginning of the trip we stayed at the Springhill Suites in Fairbanks a very nice hotel. The drive up the Dalton was fun and was the main reason we chose this tour. After we got to Coldfoot we took 3 separate tours, a drive up into the Brooks Range, Aurora Borealis watching and dog sledding. Everybody was really nice. Only thing I could complain about were the 2 videos our driver from Fairbanks to Coldfoot made us watch. The other couple in the van were sleeping and my husband and I did not want the noise of a video and we even said something to the driver but she said 'I'll play it anyway'. I enjoyed the ruggedness of the road and seeing the real ice roads truckers and hearing their chatter on the CB radio. A great time!

Great adventure to see the Northern Lights!
Sep 2019
Our tour guide Sabrena filled the trip with interesting facts and videos about Alaska and the Northern Lights. Once we arrived at Coldfoot Camp, we were oriented and set loose to explore, eat at the diner, and relax. We added on the extra trip to the cabin in Wiseman to make the viewing of the lights more comfortable with hot drinks and a fire to warm your hands, and I recommend that even though we didn't see the lights that night. We did see the lights the following night from camp and they were amazing! Major bucket list item achieved. Excellent customer service and very professional.

WOW!
Apr 2019 • Couples
OK, so we know we were spoiled by the perfectly clear (=cold) weather all 4 days, but this operation knows what they're doing. They do a great job hiring and taking care of their personnel-and it shows in their professionalism, great attitudes, knowledge, etc. Can't say enough about how impressed we were with everyone we interacted with. While in Coldfoot we opted to do the night Aurora "tour" all 3 nights and while it can become a bit pricey, the experience-and aurora displays themselves-were priceless!

Beautiful introduction to the Alaskan Artic
Mar 2019 • Couples
We were taken in a comfortable bus with an excellent tour guide who made nearly continuous comments for the entire trip. On this adventure you go about 6 hours north to the Arctic Circle North of the Yukon River on the Dalton Highway where you are met by a smaller bus based at the Coldfoot truck stop. After about 9 hours you arrive in Coldfoot. For another $79 you can go 18 miles further North to a tiny enclave which is at a higher elevation - nearly perfect for viewing the Northern lights, although we did see them at the truck stop as well. Restaurant at truck stop was open 24 hours, small bar too. Relatively decent food in the middle of nowhere. Accomadations basic but satisfactory and nicer than expected. Surprised that my T-Mobile phone worked there. Flight back to FaIrbanks on 3d day -- if clear -- is an experience of a lifetime. My second visit to this area, and have flown my own plane in that area as well. One of the most uninhabited remote areas on earth - and simply magnificent -- even if you don't see the Northern lights. We rented a car upon return to Fairbanks airport and drove up to the Chena hot springs for the night (must make reservations). Easy one hour drive also mostly through wonderful wilderness. Be sure to stop at the Mueseum of the North at the University of Alaska Fairbanks to learn about the history of the area etc. The travel package up to Coldfoot and back was excellent. Other outings are available at Coldfoot including a dog sled experience or a drive further north on the Dalton highway sometimes to see the Caribou herds. We went end of March which is very good viewing because sky is clearer then and less snow and ice driving and not so cold. Viewing is from midnight till 4 AM with optimum viewing around 2 AM. Bring ski clothing (long underwear, snow pants, etc.) -- it gets cold standing around outside.

Thank you bonemd for joining us on the Arctic Circle Aurora Overnight Adventure. We appreciate your detailed review for others to find the right adventure for their aurora experience. The option you mention early on is the Arctic Village Aurora - night time tour to Wiseman for aurora viewing -- like you say you can see them in Coldfoot - the tour to Wiseman provides a guided experience while you wait. Stay warm in a historic cabin, interact with your guide who is sharing what life is like year round in this remote location. Thank you again for choosing Northern Alaska Tour company. Best wishes for a bright spring! Kathy

Good Tour, Very Well Organized but No Northern Lights
Mar 2019 • Solo
Enjoyed this tour, first time in Alaska, and learned a lot of the history. The guides and organization were excellent, and the transport both ways was very good. Although one of the viewing nights in Wiseman was clear and stars were visible, no Aurora was visible to the eye, even though some cameras when set up properly did capture some faint images and color. Tour members received excellent help in setting up cameras from personnel at the viewing cabin, site. Stayed two nights each before and after the tour in Fairbanks. History of this area of Alaska is fascinating and I will arrange another trip. Would like to go to the end of the Dalton Highway to Deadhorse. Weather was cold, 10 F. at night and around 20 F. and above in the daytime. Quite a bit of snow and ice. Not the type of trip for those that want to be pampered and expect resort-type food and lodging.

Dear Dionges1, thank you for joining us on your Arctic Circle Aurora Adventure. We would love to have you jion us for an Arctic Ocean Adventure -- that is an adventure we have that does cover the full length of the Dalton Highway -- dip your toes in the Arctic Ocean! (offered in the Midnight Sun Season only currently -- BUT, you can take it at the END of the August/beginning of September and try again to look for the aurora). Thank you again for your review and best wishes for a bright spring! Kathy

Spectacular Arctic Adventure
Dec 2018 • Friends
This was one of the most amazing holidays of my life.
However, it wasn't all smooth sailing. We arrived at the NATC office to travel by bus to Cold Foot only to be chastised by reception that we were late. We were supposed to be there by 0915 and arrived at 0921 as the Lyft driver got lost. On the way we were to take in some sight seeing. Friends had recommended this trip and said that before you start the driver takes you to a supermarket to get some snacks for the trip. Didn't happen and this may have changed since my friends had done the trip. It was unfortunate that our driver got sick which delayed our tour by two hours. The issue was the lack of communication. We had no food and very little water with us. Eventually things were sorted out and we (English speaking) were transferred onto a bus of Chinese tourists with a Mandarin speaking guide. Our Mandarin is non existent so were kept in the dark as to what was happening. We did get to a roadhouse and had the best noodle soup and it was from that point that our trip really began.
On our arrival at Cold Foot the staff couldn't be kinder. We were fed and watered and taken out to our first viewing of the Northern Lights. It was spectacular. The following day we took a drive up to Galbraith Lake and saw some fabulous landmarks along the way i.e. Dalton Highway, Alaskan Pipeline, Snowshoe Hares etc.
The next day we went dog sledding. We were worried that the dogs may have been ill-treated but the Musher was very passionate about his dogs and mushing and we even got to meet the dogs and four puppies. The highlight was supposed to be the northern lights but I think the dog mushing surpassed that and was great value for money. We flew back to Fairbanks and the tour didn't stop there as the pilot continued to point out various Alaskan landmarks.

I would like to thank Ben, Beaux, India, Loro and everyone else at Coldfoot who made our holiday extraordinary. Their knowledge and passion of the area was exemplary.

Even with the delays and mishaps we always felt safe and confident that we would arrive at our destination in one piece.

I would highly recommend this trip back to one of the last frontiers.
