What to Expect
After boarding an air-conditioned coach in the French Quarter, follow the Lake Pontechartrain shoreline to Destrehan Plantation, the oldest plantation in the lower Mississippi Valley. Tour the carefully restored French colonial mansion with a costumed guide, learning about former inhabitants and the southern sugar cane industry. You'll also have a chance to explore the gardens and a museum dedicated to the 1811 slave revolt. Continue on to the Manchac Swamp for a wildlife tour in a covered boat that provides protection from weather in all seasons. Learn about swamp culture and the endangered ecosystem from a guide as you look for alligators, raccoons, snakes, birdlife, and giant rodents. The swamp is privately owned, so you don't have to worry about crowds. Return to the convenient French Quarter drop-off point in the late afternoon or evening.

Had a nice day out of the city. The plantation wasn't what I thought it would be. I was expecting more about plantation life and slavery but was more about a dead rich white dudes family history. The swamp tour was fantastic and Bishop was entertaining and educational. I hope
