What to expect
Your tour starts with afternoon pickup from your hotel and transfer by van to the dog sled headquarters. Your guide shares a brief overview of dog mushing, then takes you out to meet the furry stars of the team. Your guides introduce you to some of the more than 90 dogs and answer questions about the canine athletes. Watch as your guide gets the dog team harnessed up, then step into your sled for your ride into the wilderness. The all-weather sled is equipped with comfortable padded seats and tires for warmer conditions. Have time for photo ops of Alaska's natural beauty and the dogs at work as you ride through the woods. After your sled ride, return to the kennel area to see the adorable puppies. Have time to play with the husky pups and pose for photos. Then learn about the supplies needed for the Iditarod, and watch a demonstration about harnesses, training, and race strategy for the dogs. Your tour ends with return transfer to your hotel in Seward.

Wonderful tour!
Jul 2021
I enjoyed this tour! Great information about the Iditarod, and the history of that event. The staff were all so friendly and knowledgable, and made our tour a good experience! And, of course, the dogs did the BEST job-loved their excitement!
Definitely recommend!

The tour was informative, the ride on the trails was fun, but the best part was getting to hold the puppies!

LOVE LOVE LOVE
Plenty of parking, but if you don’t have a car, shuttles services are available. 3 porta-potty’s available at the entrance and were quite clean. Best $99 we’ve ever spent. Sadie, our tour guide was one of the nicest people we’ve met on our trip. We began at a small gazebo like area surrounding the dog kennels to learn about the Iditarod and it’s originations. Not gonna spoil anything for you, besides the fact that sled dogs were used to transport medicine for a deadly disease when other forms of transport weren’t available nor accessible. One of the only open fenced dog kennels in Alaska, maybe even the world. Dogs were incredibly friendly and strong enough to carry a 1,000 pound sled plus all the people on it. Not the same sled they use for the race. Sled ride was approximately 2 miles on relatively flat road. The dogs absolutely love it. We then got to meet and cuddle with 10 week old puppies. THE CUTEST LITTLE PUPS EVER!! Our 1.5 hour tour ended with a demonstration of the dogs attire for the race and what is packed on the sled/worn by the musher. Be sure to ask plenty of questions. Before you leave, write down name suggestions for the puppy litter in the gift shop. Each litter has a theme and the dogs are named after said theme. Whether you are a kid or 100 years old this will be one of the highlights of your trip :)

So fun and educational!
Jul 2021
This was such a great experience! My 8 year old picked this tour and she nailed it. We learned so much about dog sledding. The dogs were so friendly and the ride was a lot of fun. Cuddling the puppies was an added bonus. The staff are all very helpful. Sadie knew so much about the dogs and their personalities. The only thing that wasn't awesome was the port a potty instead of a real toilet. Go before you take the tour. Otherwise 10 out of 10!

Best Sled Dog Experience in Alaska!
May 2021
We have visited Alaska 5 times; and experienced 3 dog sled tours. THIS was the best! And I guess since it is conceived & organized by the iconic Seaveys it was no surprise. There was an exceptionally helpful detailed talk by TIM about the history of sled dogs and the Seavey approach to training of sled dogs. Then a tour of the amazing sled dog facilities (they have their own "homes" and exercise areas). Then the actual sled dog experience - hang on! and they are off... Then a bit of time with weeks old puppies. The difference with this sled dog experience was the obvious outstanding love of the dogs, focus on the dogs, and amazing approach to training. Highly recommended!

Great experience riding the sledge and cuddling the Husky puppies
Jul 2021
Highly recommended tour in Seward. The huskies are super affectionate and cute. The tour is well guided. We were picked up at the alaska rail road station in the tour shuttle and then dropped back well within time. In between we were served an excellent and super fast serviced lunch at Downtown Seword. The sledge was fun and very safe for children. We were a party of 9 people and there were 9 dogs on our sledge pulling us and making sure we enjoy the ride, giving them instrucitons in their code language to stop, start and turn the sledge and then at the last petting and hugging the big huskies. We also got to see how to dress the husky during the race and learn about the actual training conditions for the Ididaride race. At the end of the tour we spent 30 minutes cuddling the husky puppies and that was the spotlight for our daughters to remember this experience. There are no restrooms but porter potty to use at the entrace of the facility. There is a small gift shop to buy water and some small snacks and souveniers at the entrance.

Great tour
If you are in Seward this is a must do tour! Such a fun low-key educational experience. The bus driver Doug picked us up at the Windsong resort and headed to the kennels. We had Hal Hanson who just finished racing in the Iditarod this year! It was so much fun to hear him talk about his experience and educate us on what all goes into this grueling race. It was neat to see his passion and love for his dogs and the sport. We had a great lunch at the Chattermark restaurant in downtown Seward. We then did the 2 mile hike to exit glacier which was amazing. Doug our bus driver then took us to see the salmon spawning area. Doug could not have been nicer or more informative!
