    Friendly team at Blue Mansion
Lovely tour of the Blue Mansion. Beautifully maintained property and lots of spots for great pics. I want to thank one of the members of the Blue Mansion team, Selva, for pointing out the nice places to take photos and for taking some lovely pics of my cousin and me. Made our visit more memorable.

    Informative tour / beautiful mansion
The tour was informative and provided great context to the items in the museum. The house is beautiful with great preservation efforts, even though visitors can not see many parts of the building that are for hotel guests only. We appreciated Cumelle's passion for the history of the home and for Penang, and her inclusivity of talking about different cultures that influenced the museum

    Tour of Blue Mansion
our guide Clemence was such a character, so funny and knowledgeable. We loved our tour. The mansion is really worth seeing, and I didn’t think so at the beginning but then after the tour you realise how much history it preserves for the city.

    A very worthwhile tour
I took a guided tour with some friends of the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion last month. The tour was really worthwhile as the mansion has a colourful, fascinating history and our guide, Julia, was very knowledgeable and interesting with her commentary. She obviously is passionate about the mansion and was able to answer all our questions. I had been in the mansion several times before but I highly recommend doing a tour as you learn so much that you would otherwise miss.

    Poor guided visit
The groups far too big. I think 50 in our group. I couldn’t understand the guides English, difficult to understand. Would rather have had the audio instead and gone around quietly. Very disappointing woukdnt bring guests here again.

    What a Beautiful Mansion Indeed
Though the mansion only opens limited areas for visitors, it's totally worth checking it out since it's so beautiful inside and there is so much history behind this gorgeous property!

    Peaking from the street
Two English language tours are carried out daily at 11 and 14 o'clock for 25 rm. The Blue Mansion and information about it are also well visible from the street if you are in a hurry. As it is primarily a hotel viewing the interior is limited. This was the first renovated Chinese building around the time Georgetown was granted the Unesco World Heritage title.

    Nice building, diappointing interior
The interesting and amusing tour unfortunately limits itself to explaining photographs and diagrams and a few interior courtyards. Most of the house is reserved for private hotel guests.

    Indigo surprise!
Had the fortune to stumble into the Indigo bar at this historic house on a rainy night and felt thoroughly welcome 🤗 Not only did the bartender Ali remember my name, but he remembered my favorite order of coffee accompanied by a whiskey liqueor! Indigo is a classsic bar lounge with comfy sofas, long and convivial bar counter and an ambience enhanced with soft lighting. Perfect for lounging, writing a book, or enjoying a fine cocktail or night cap with an engaging and knowledgeable bartender who also made perfect suggestions for my exploration of Georgetown the next day! Highly recommended!

    Incredibly unfriendly bartender
There is of course no denying that this hotel is stunning! The hotel was booked up when we tried to book our stay so on a free evening we decided to pop in for some pre dinner cocktails and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Wish we hadn’t bothered. The coldest welcome from the barman who made us feel most uncomfortable and unwelcome. I’m naturally a kind and friendly person and always give people the benefit of the doubt but to see him all smiles on the walkie talkie but then not even a glimmer of basic professional courtesy when he returned to us was the first time during my 3 month travels in Asia to feel so unwelcome. Suffice to say we drank our cocktails and left (and went to Farquhar’s Bar around the corner and had a lovely time).

    MANDATORY VISIT IN PENANG
I didn't stay at the mansion but joined the tour last Friday. It was one of the best tours I had. The guide (a conservator) was a wonderful storyteller as she played a huge role in the mansion's conservation. She shared the ups and downs, the history of the mansion and the family. It was definitely more than 45 minutes and worth even more than RM26 ticket. Please book online prior to the visit. I definitely value UNESCO sites more than before. I would love to stay there next time!

    Great Introduction to Penang Heritage
The Cheong Fatt Tze (Blue Mansion) will provide the visitor with a great introduction to Penang's Chinese heritage. Even its self-guided audio-provided 45-minute tour is informative and pleasantly conducted. A must-do for the uninitiated.

    Overrated
Not sure why it’s rated highly. You have to go specific time to take guided tour probably at 11am and 2pm else like another building , absolutely nothing there.

Property needs better upkeep for such a treasure. Had dropped in for a visit after touring the Pinang Peranakan Mansion which was a beautiful property with very intricate exhibits. Blue Mansion room sections open for guided tour visitors seemed comparatively lacking in lustre, parts of the interior courtyard ceiling had paints peeling off and the common floorboard areas were very worn down. Interesting history behind the Blue Mansion though. Had arrived late and did the self guided audio tour (well narrated).

Beautiful mansion with a fascinating history. We booked the morning tour - it cost RM25 (about $8 in AUD). Our guide, Sally, was very knowledgeable, and told lots of interesting (and funny!) stories about Cheong Fatt Tze and the history of the building. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Penang!

Not sure how this is rated as no.1 thing to do in George town. You get to see a court yard and a guide talks at you for 1 hour. I noticed a lot of people left part way through. 25MYR to get in.

We are sorry to hear that the tour was regrettably not enjoyable for you. While many guests love the information and anecdotes shared by our guides, we understand that others do prefer to experience the mansion at their leisure – though this is of course limited as we try and preserve the privacy of our hotel guests. As we would like for everyone to have a wonderful experience visiting us, we hope that you can perhaps come back and try Indigo, or have a drink at our bar and listen to the guzheng performance (weekend evenings) or even come and stay with us in the future. The Blue Mansion is a must-visit on your trip to George Town. If you cannot book the hotel, I recommend the day tour which unfortunately does not include the bedrooms but provides a first hand look at the beautiful courtyard where the famous Mahjong scene from Crazy Rich Asians was filmed. Our tour guide, Sally, was fabulous has years of experience showing the house, and knowledge of its owner’s fascinating story. If you have time, stay for a drink at the gorgeous bar!

The Blue Mansion has an incredible history place to visit. There is so much to look at inside the building, and every object has an interesting tale to it. It was also amazing to stand in the Courtyard area where scenes from Crazy Rich Asians had been filmed.
After the tour we took photos around the beautiful mansion. And the staff Mr Selva proved to be very friendly and helpful. He helped us take the most gorgeous photos. Thanks Selva for making our visit to the Blue Mansion so memorable.
I would highly recommend this tour.

The guide is very knowledgeable and able to engage the audience. It’s very well conducted, from one level to the next and room by room. It’s very interesting to listen to the history.

The only setback is it’s too crowded. Those standing behind cannot really see the pictures or items when the guide made references to them. Looks like there’s no cap to the size of the group tour. We paid cash for the tickets at the security gate point, hurried by the security guards, and was given a sticker to join the tour. There is no receipt for our payment. The amount paid was much more than purchasing the tickets online. We feel like it’s a rip off.

So it was an unforgettable experience.

Went for their guided tour which was amazing! Even though the accessible area are limited, with their tour guide Clement, everything seems to be easier to visualised! It almost like you are living in the era of the man himself, Cheong Fatt Tze.

Our only critics is that the souvenirs shop staff seems a bit off, you wouldn’t expect staffs at some established and posh heritage hotel would walk around barefoot, but again, we’re not from here. And she seems to love talking about her personal stuff to strangers, i had to walk away and let my girlfriend deal with it!

Clement the tour guide was fantastic, but there were simply too many people booked on the tour that you could not get into the rooms to hear the commentary as unbearably hot and crowded and a lot of standing about without being able to actually see much because of the crowd. A large number of the tour group abandoned the tour and began wandering around independently as only way to actually see the mansion.

The mansion is a beautiful place and a worthy tale of rags to riches. Unfortunately, our guide was too keen on the sound of her own voice and, after an hour, we had only covered the entrance hall, atrium and small museum. Interesting, yes, but she was clearly going to go on for another lengthy period of time and it was all too much.
