About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sherwyn K0 contributionsBeautiful houseWe arrived just before 3.30 pm and was advised the guided tour is sold out. Not wanting to wait till 4.30 pm for the audio tour, we took the option of a high tea for 2 there. The high tea was good and allowed us the option of exploring the beautiful interiors of the Blue Mansion at our own pace. The hotel section was out of bounds. Relative to the Peranakan Mansion which is a lot bigger and visually more captivating, the same entrance fee ( with guided tour) at 25 myr per pax appeared high here. The high tea is reasonable at 88 myr for 2 pax ( Mon-Thurs) .Written 1 August 2024

- helenwlng0 contributionsWorth the visit. Great Staff Selva. Great Food at 1st Floor Indigo fine dining restaurant. This was my 2nd visit to the Blue Mansion after 20 years. The property is well maintained, organized and managed. The ticket fee is 25 myr. The most unforgettable experience of this visit was its staff, Selva. I approached Selva with a simple enquiry. To my surprise, he gave me a full story of the Blue Mansion, more than what I expected. He is articulate, possesses in-depth knowledge, cheerful and helpful. I felt his passion and his pride in his work. He was able to answer all of my detailed questions such as how QI in Feng Shui was implemented in the design of the mansion, I sincerely appreciate him taking the time and effort to explain to me about the history and interesting stories of the Blue Mansion I'd also suggest to have lunch at the Indigo fine dining restaurant located in the first floor of the mansion. After lunch, you could visit the premise without paying the ticket fee. We went there this early March, the 3 course lunch set was at a great bargain price of 95myr per person. There's also a bar and a gift store on the ground floor. Unlike before, tourists now are not allowed to step into the hotel room area. If I'd have known beforehand about this arrangement, I would highly likely stay at the Blue Mansion Heritage Hotel.Written 26 March 2024
- Leonhkny0 contributionsNice building, unappealing tourThe Blue Mansion is one of the more impressive old buildings in George Town. The blue wall is quite interesting for tourists; guided tour sounds pretty unappealing, though. It is still a functioning hotel so not many rooms are open to visitors. Everyone must download mobile application for information. With some better alternatives in the fabulous city, I would go somewhere else.Written 20 January 2024
- Valerie P0 contributionsThe Blue MansionWhat a beautiful property with a fascinating history. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the restoration and conservation of this unique house. How it is funded today to preserve its future. She was passionate and interesting. Really good value for money and a taste of Georgetown over the years. The blend of different cultures to create the Penang of today. Loved my tourWritten 11 January 2024
- Trip518645901720 contributionsNot worth it!!We took the audio guided tour. Of the two of us visiting, only one got the audio app to work. 25 MYR is very expensive compared to the content that was provided. The tour could be completed in roughly 15 minutes. Not much to see: entrance lobby, a hallway and a few rooms with basically nothing but info texts in them. Also entrance to many areas restricted to non-residents of the hotel. I would only recommend it to people who are very VERY enthusiastic about architecture. Would get two stars if it were more reasonably priced and if the app worked.Written 4 January 2024
- Venture226226134770 contributionsExcellence service and memorable experienceExcellence service from Mr Resty. He was patient, attentive to the needs of my elderly parents, and would go the extra mile to make all the necessary arrangements for our convenience. The food available at the hotel was good too, like nyonya curry laska, aglio olio - al dente spaghetti (from Mangga), prawn mee, dhal (breakfast), and the dining experience at Indigo was not to be missed. Overall experience was memorable.Written 17 December 2023
- Joshuaaguilan0 contributionsOur spontaneous tour guide was awesome! My friends and I had a great time at the Blue Mansion. Selva was great, as he helped out while we were on a self guided tour, and gave us extra facts that were amazing! The hospitality was amazing and would definitely come again!Written 11 September 2023
- CNat750 contributionsStaff Hospitality made up for shortcomingsI must mention that Selva was a very helpful staff that assisted us in taking pictures from various angles at the Courtyard which really made up for the shortcomings of the visit. I have mixed feelings about the visit as the self guided tour was the same price as guided fyi (so you are better off booking the guided tour). The website did indicate that some parts of the mansion is beyond public visit (excld. in-house guest and visitors on tours) so not sure if this was an issue with the self guided tour. However, the visit of the mansion itself was a slight letdown as there weren't that many artefacts or areas to visit. The place gained much fame from a renowned movie and I was definitely expecting more from the tour.Written 27 August 2023
- JoachimG0 contributionsNo need to go, totally overratedThe visit is totally overrated and not worth the 25 RM. There is nothing special to see and they sell a lot of tickets. Visit Pinang Peranakan Mansion and you see what you expecte from the mansion. There are only a few rooms to see. The best look is from the outsideWritten 26 August 2023
- X7360VRjordanc0 contributionsBlue Mansion tourThe mansion was really nice to see. Welcoming staff too but what made the experience the best was Selva. He knew so much about that place and brought it back to life. His knowledge and character made the experience so much better. I advise if you go ask to get a tour from him. The peanut butter milkshake at the bar was also really delicious. All in all an amazing memory.Written 21 August 2023

- evang08090 contributionsChill and relax at the Blue MansionThe Blue Mansion is worth spending half-day to explore as you get to see a mix of Eastern and Western architecture of that time. With the history and background of the Cheong family, you could understand better on the design of the Mansion. After exploring the building, you should not miss the bar and restaurants in the Mansion. I was enjoying my lovely afternoon tea with my family at the bar. The atmosphere was excellent with great service by the staff. I would love to give special thanks to the staff Mr. Selva who had been very helpful and friendly serving my family and answering my inquiries. I enjoyed my visit to the Blue Mansion and would definitely recommend everyone to come.Written 17 June 2023

I want to thank one of the members of the Blue Mansion team, Selva, for pointing out the nice places to take photos and for taking some lovely pics of my cousin and me. - monica8F9G89HF9HG9F0 contributionsInformative tour / beautiful mansionThe tour was informative and provided great context to the items in the museum. The house is beautiful with great preservation efforts, even though visitors can not see many parts of the building that are for hotel guests only. We appreciated Cumelle's passion for the history of the home and for Penang, and her inclusivity of talking about different cultures that influenced the museumWritten 23 May 2023

The guided tour is long winded and only visits a limited part of the blue mansion.
Save the 25 ringgit of the tour and spend that on a drink at the bar, you will have access to the same parts of the mansion.
You can also go for lunch ( three course meal for 75) at Indigo restaurant, you will see more of the mansion than on the guided tour.

Decided to have lunch at Indigo Restaurant. Food is okay - nothing special but good to see and feel the atmosphere in that part of the house. Asked about the tour, was advised could pay as part of the lunch bill. Nice surprise having service charge added...presume no additional charge on tickets downstairs?
Far too many people let on tour so that at times impossible to hear guide in some of the rooms.
Only allow guests to few a tiny portion of the house as rest is restricted. The price of the ticket is very expensive when compared to other more interesting sites around Penang and globally. Better value (and more interesting exhibits) is Ngyonya Museum ( Peranakan Mansion ).
Nothing the guide told us, cant google. Had trouble answering questions - seemed like just going through the motions - perhaps done it too many times. The house itself, what you can see, is interesting with some significant pieces of art. Have a look at the outside and check out other places first.

A beautiful historical house that should be on your destination list when you are in Georgetown, Penang. The price is worth the experience. The ticket can be purchased online or on the spot, however, please note that they only have scheduled tours at 11 am and 2 pm. The guide explained everything in a very detailed yet entertaining way, so you feel like you can absorb the story easily.

They have daily tours and we showed up 15 minutes earlier than the starting time. The guard was kinda rude. He was like 'where do you want to go?'. When we said we are here for the tour, he said "it doesn't start until 14:00, so you can't come in".
The tour guide herself was extremely professional. We really enjoyed her commentary. It was informative and interactive. I will give her 5/5! But they don't take you to many rooms.
Both the limited space showing and guard's rudeness was a result of respecting the privacy of the hotel guests. I get that. I think they should stop the tours then. The tour should only be available to the hotel guests. If you don't want outsiders there, don't take 50 RM each person so show like 3 rooms and not allowing them to wait in the common areas when they arrive a bit early. These are disrespectful behavior!
I would rather recommend a tour to Pinang Peranakan Mansion instead. That mansion has almost the same architecture and you can visit the entire space that has a lot of photo op. This blue mansion tour was a total BS and waste of time!

Sally was an excellent tour guide and gave us a thorough overview of the history of the Mansion. She was funny and made sure not to overload us with information, whilst adding in excellent tidbits of information. The Mansion itself if beautiful and we got some wonderful photos.

My wife and I visited the Blue Mansion in Penang last year and thoroughly enjoyed our tour of this beautiful building. The tour was led by our guide Christine who not only gave us the background and history of the building but in a fun and entertaining way brought some life to the sights through dramatising expressions. Thanks, Chris, for making the tour an enjoyable one for us.

Terry ran a great tour. On top of viewing and understanding the wonderful history of the building, it was also nice to hear about the history of the man, Cheong Fatt Tze, who built the house. The tour took around 45 minutes, and I would highly recommend the guided tour over self-guided tour (same price). Maximum of 50 people on the guided tour. Some tickets are left for walk-ins, though, but best to reserve ahead.

The mansion itself is quite an architecture marvel which I am glad was successfully preserved by the architect who bought the site when the mansion went to market. I see comments comparing this to the Peranakan museum, however I personally don’t think it’s a fair comparison cause the Blue Mansion is not a Peranakan house.
Clement was delightful as our tour guide and has a true passion for heritage, sprinkling the tour with some humour about Chinese culture observed throughout the mansion. Yes, large parts of the mansion is off limits to tour, but the most important (and majestic) part of it is covered in the tour.
The mansion relies on proceeds from tour and hotel operations to sustain operations and maintenance cost, thus RM25 is not expensive as one would be contributing to the conservation of heritage in Malaysia.

We stayed at a nearby hotel and it is close to other attractions in Georgetown. We visited at the last session at 3:30pm. Admission ticket is RM16 per person. We were so hyped up to visit the famous building as seen in many movies. The tour was entertaining however probably a little bit over the top. It includes the history of Cheong Fatt Tze, the historic journey of the mansion, the design and along other information such as costumes of the period.
We highly recommend if you don’t mind paying for the tours admission. Some areas are restricted as it is a hotel as well. We would be much happier if they let people to visit a little bit more on the inside. Regardless, take more time to appreciate the exterior instead which was not in the guided tour.
As a movie buff, the information on what movies was shot on location was very interesting.
While you are here, check out The Edison hotel right at the opposite which is a nice mansion as well.

Somehow this place was never on my top list when I searched on internet but thankfully I found it.
Took a quick tour worthing 15 RM, around 4 usd, and I was honored to be guided by Lee Loh, small and full of energy person who is the member of family running this mansion. She was so passionate and knowledgeable about the mansion. The public area was pretty small and limited, however with positive energy and knowledge she shared with me, 1 hour tour was way too much enjoyable than my expectations. I had learnt a lot. Once again thanks Lee Loh for my tour guide. This was my unforgettable memory in Georgetown.

Will the house open on 24 & 25 December 2020? Thanks.

Hi. Daily tours to the Cheong Fatt Tze or the Blue Mansion have resumed on 5 June 2020 and should be open on 24 & 25 December 2020 unless a lockdown is imposed (due to a rise in the Covid-19 infection) again.
There are 2 tours daily at 11am and 2pm and will take up 45 mins in total. Pre-booking is encouraged as the tour only takes a maximum of 24 people.
Thank you for checking out my review. I wish you well. God bless and stay safe.

Hi there, 2 questions please - can you have drinks in the bar without a tour ticket? Are children allowed to visit the house and the bar? Thank you.
