It is a fun place to visit in Penang
We took a grab taxi and reached this place at 11 AM. The queue was long so we took fast/express tickets, we reached the hills and experienced nature at its best. Walked along the path, enjoyed the swing, cafe at top. This place offers many things to see and you can spend a whole day or half a day here depending on your party.

    To the top
Very nice ride up the hill on the train Very hard to get a good view as everyone is packed in, still though very enjoyable Paid extra for fast track but wasn’t that busy really. I believe very busy at weekends so probably worth it then, however still a considerable queue on the way back so probably worth it. Lots of things to do at the top, some cost extra and the views are worth it. Claims to be a lot cooler, well by about 5 degrees but still sweltering so take plenty of water and suncream

Cool funicular. Must do when in Penang.
When in Penang, take the funicular up Penang Hill. Went on Monday around 12:30PM. Line wasn’t very long so bought the regular ticket for 30 Ringgits or about $6.50 USD (fast track price is twice as much) . Waited about 30 minutes to ride up the funicular (waiting area had AC and fans so it wasn’t too bad). The funicular ride was pretty fast going up a steep hill; lasted about 4-5 minutes. Up on Penang Hill, there are different length walks and nice view of Georgetown for free. There’s many gimmicky things on the hill, but they all require an extra fee. The highlight is The Habitat which has a higher entrance fee, but worth it for nature lovers and the nice canopy walk. Ride the funicular back down around 5:30 PM without a long wait (10-15 minutes). Overall, a must do when in Penang, but didn’t like all the extra fees for everything.

    Only suitable for fit people
To climb up Penang hill takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and is only suitable for very fit people . There are 1500 steps but also section of tracks through the forest. It is not suitable to be done on a wet day .

    Penang views and wildlife
The trip up and back on the funicular may be lengthy depending on the day and time when you visit. If possible avoid weekends and local holidays. After the funicular ride you will have the option to walk around areas of Penang Hill or hire a buggy driver. If you have a reasonable fitness level most areas at the top are walkable although some include walking up hills. The area I walked were all bitumen sealed and you will just have to be mindful of buggy drivers and occasionally move of the bitumen. You will see some monkeys and occasional squirrel and some other native animals when walking in some areas of the hill. The monkeys near the monkey cup garden and cafe area were very photogenic and it was good to see no one was feeding them or offering them drinks as they happily fed on the native vegetation. The outer areas of Penang Hill generally do not have a lot of walkers or buggy traffic and be mindful some areas are off limits as indicated by signage. I spent about 3.5 hours including stops for refreshments walking around and enjoying the views from the main vantage points, I did not walk any of the trails up or down Penang Hill. It is a good idea to carry some water and snacks if you are inclined to go away from the main area and possibly an umbrella or rain coat. You can buy food including ice creams , soft drinks and water and there are a few activities that require an entry fee to be paid including Habitat.

Nothing is open, view is average
Paid expensive jeep to go up the hill because rail is closed for maintenance. Waited 1 for the jeep to arrive and communication wasnt great. Worst part is all the attractions on the hill is closed and nobody told us about it. Waste of time, energy and money

    Fresh air and Excellent View
Beautiful scenery and the air up there is fresh. Try to go early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Bring along you your camera. For the ticket, there are normal and express . My recommendation is buy the express tickets to avoid the long queues. Highly recommend.

Penang hill not worth the time to see
We went by the funicular train, we bought fast lane tickets, we did not have to queue, but the train was jammed packed, 1 carriage which supposed to be for 12 people were packed for 16 persons. Penang hill itself is very bad managed, not suitable for elderly. Not much to see. Have to go down the stairs to go to toilet. Rented a buggy but driver did not want to stop for us to take a picture. Just drived through all the attractions without stopping.

WE DID THE CAR UP TO TOP
The lines for funicular were very very long. We decided ahead of time to go directly to the botanical Gardens where there is a smaller line for suv trucks to take you to top. The ride to top was exciting like being in a race course with excellent driver. Once on top it’s a stroll around for photos and selfies . Highest point on town and worth the visit. Problems only when coming down and waiting for transport and juggling line.be aware of that part

Not worth the queue waiting times!
We had an hour wait for the train up and then another even longer wait for the train back down (and we weren’t even visiting on a weekend!) the view is nice from the top, but anything else you want to do up there (gallery, the habitat walkway etc.) you have to pay quite a bit extra. We decided to get some food instead and opted for 2 burgers (no chips) and 2 drinks at the sky terrace and it cost 100RM! Way overpriced considering the quality of both the drinks and the food were pretty poor. I’m not sure when ‘low’ season is but perhaps visiting then and simply going up to see the view would be worth it if the queues were much shorter. If not I think there’s better activities in Penang

Funicular train ride to the top is a must in Penang!
You can't really say you've been to Penang if you haven't made the trip up to the top of Penang Hill. But, it really only makes sense to go up if the weather is reasonably clear; otherwise, you're spending money for a short train ride only. The trip to the top is via Southeast Asia's longest funicular train system. The trip takes a mere 4 1/2 minutes, but it's steep and fun. For foreigners, the cost is 30 ringgit for adults and seniors for the standard fare (meaning you wait in line while all the people who paid for the "fast lane" zip past you. The cost for the fast lane is about double, but it is probably worth it for most people on busy days. The price for Malaysians is less than half that for foreigners. We found the management of the funicular was not so good as they informed us the wait for the standard line was only 30 minutes, but it turned out to be more than one hour. The views at the top were very nice and the air was refreshingly cool.

    PENANG HILL. PENANG. MALAYSIA
1)This is one of the TOP Tourist spots in Penang. 2)Many renovations have been done improving the site. The Train is much spacious and comfortable then the OLD one. However, ALWAYS Long waiting time !! 3)The hill top accord Some views of Penang Island; BUT not too impressive Many commercial outlets set up on hill top, But offer ordinary wares !! 4)Visit it for the sake of " Had BEEN" !!

A little like Disney-land at the top of the funicular but once away from the crowds fabulous
Very busy - school parties as well as tourists. Best to go fast track. Very busy at the top of the funicular but once we were on the sky walk trail no crowds at all. Stunning views. Peaceful. Unfortunately bird life disappointing.

    Cloudy at summit
Probably because the December monsoon is coming hence it was cloudy almost everyday. No view at summit so we went to The Habitat. Also no view but it’s nice to look at the plants that are endemic to Penang and the region. No luck with seeing fauna except some monkeys. Habitat is also a lot less crowded than other parts of Penang Hill. Stop by the cafe before you go to take in the fresh air and pause before you continue the rest of your day.

This is a cable station to go to Penang Hill. It's a very great place, nice ticketing and queuing system. You can buy the cheaper ticket through online apps like Klook or Traveloka, or you can buy it on the spot.

For you who want to visit Penang Hill (go to upper station), please and please give more attention to my advice: buy the FASTLANE (laluan ekspress) ticket. It will cost you MYR 80 (a little expensive) but you will be REALLY THANKFUL for buying it. If you buy the normal lane, the queuing people are crazy. It's a very long queu so that will make you waiting for 2 hours till you can reach the closest entry gate for the cable train. By buying the fastlane ticket, you'll be directed to get in without queuing. Just pass the queu. You'll walk through them like a boss.. hahahaha.. and when you arrive at entry gate, the staff will invite the fastlane ticket buyer first when the cable train arrives. Trust me, fastlane ticket will provide you comfort and fast process.

At the ticket counter, you may be confused by the queuing lane: which one would you take. Just get closer to the staff and ask where to get ticket. They would not permit you to queu if you come in group. Just appoint one person as your group representative to buy the tickets, or the staffs will be mad at you if you all go queuing.

If you plan to visit The Habitat, please note that the ticket would be much cheaper to buy at online apps, like Klook or Traveloka. They'll usually give you discounts up to 20-30%. I bought the ticket on the spot and compared to my friend's ticket (bought through Traveloka) then realized that his was so much cheaper. Oh God...

By the way, there are a lot of water fountains at the top. Don't forget to bring your own bottle.

We visited Penang Hill the day after it reopened so it was not crowded at all, but we were told it usually is and not to go on a weekend. It was lovely up the top and the views are fabulous. We visited the Owl and Camera Museum which are up the top - I wouldn't recommend doing this, it was just a small collection of these items and not worth the money.

This was my second time going up the funicular (steepest in the world!) and I am so glad I spent the money to do so. I paid 30 RM last time per person but was able to pay RM12 for residents this time around.

I went early in the morning and I can highly recommend this to see the sunrise. I took the funicular up at 7 am and the sun had just come up. You can see all of Penang as everyone is starting to wake up and it's absolutely beautiful. It is also cooler in the morning which makes walking around very pleasant.

If you go and fancy some walking the "by paths" that cut down through the forest are perfect. They do have a bit of a steep ascent and descent but they are concrete steps and ramps so safe to take on.

You can take some really amazing pictures while up on the Hill. Make sure you don't miss this experience while you are in Penang!

Ascending to the top of the mountain on the cable car was a great way to see the city of Penang. This 15 minute ride up the mountain brought me to a lookout point with a commanding view of the city. I was fortunate enough to find a carriage ride which for less than five dollars took me around one side of the island passing luxurious vegetation And spectacular views of the valley below.

We made the mistake of going to Penang Hill on a Saturday, the crowd was massive! We attempted to pay the extra and get the "fast lane" only to be told it was closed, so ...we ended up queuing for hours. Just when we thought the line would move a group from a tour or huge groups from the now opened "fast Lane" would go ahead. Very hot and frustrating. Very crowded up the top. Was nice when we walked further along the top tracks where most people didn't bother to venture. Might be because we are from New Zealand and are not used to such places being so crowded but I would recommend not going on a weekend.

Control for Covid-19 was embarrassing. On the surface, it looks ok and you have the usual checks on arrival, as well as markings for queues, although no staff to encourage people to follow them and so most ignore them. However, social distancing goes completely out of the window when the funicular arrives and everyone is crammed onto it as normal. Upon arrival at the upper station, there is no order in disembarking, so everyone rushes off at the same time, with a bottleneck of people squashing together. It was the same on the way down. It didn't feel safe at all and seemed to be along for trouble.

Dear Sir/Madam, Greetings from Penang Hill Corporation! Thank you for your kind feedback pertaining to this matter. For your information, the Federal Government on 11 June announced that all public transportation allowed to operate at full capacity with safety measures such as temperature checks and wearing of face masks. As such, Penang Hill Funicular Service also resumed operation at normal capacity from 16 June 2020. Since the funicular service re-opened to visitors, PHC has been implementing the new normal SOP to comply with the requirement set by the authorities. PHC sincerely request cooperation and patience from everyone to comply with the SOPs to ensure a safe and comfortable trip for all. Thank you.

Rising through the low cloud on the venicular was train was an amazing feeling. It sped up the hillside and was comfortable with air conditioning. Once at the top, the view over George Town was crystal clear and a sight to behold. Tickets were not expensive and over 60s get a reduced rate. Well worth the ride and once at the top there are plenty of rain forest walks and activities to keep you busy.

The ride up and down is quite an experience if you have not tried the Penang Hill Furnicular ride. Love the nature, crisp clean air. If you go in the morning or late evening, it is a good to take slow nature walks around - we ventured into Kopi Hutan cafe - a nice ambient cafe nestled and surrounded by nature. I can't recommend the diluted coffee but I truly enjoyed the ambiance and sounds of jungle as I take a reprieve from the long walk. Watch out for wild monkeys - they can get aggressive amongst themselves although the noises were made by humans more than the primates. What can I say about humans behaving like animals? :P

When we came there we found out that there were two separate lines: fast and slow. Tourists had to pay twice as much as the locals so we decided to go into the slow lane because we thought it was quite expensive. It took us more then an hour to order tickets only to find out we had to wait more then two extra hours for the card to go up. Why didn't they tell us upfront?

My wife and I have working visas so we qualified for a discounted price to get the fast lane tickets which were well worth it. The scenery was outstanding! Even though it was lightly raining for most of the day, the canopy provided lots of protection. I highly recommend doing the Habitat Walk.
