We did a one day tour of the Bolaven plateau. The day was very well paced and we had ample time at the various stops. Our driver was polite, careful, had an excellent car and informative about the things we saw. All in all a great day

Xplore Asia put together an itineary for me in just a few days. Four different hotels, 9 different stops, car and driver . . . four packed days. All arranagment went smoothly -- on time as promised. THey even tried to amend along the way when I had new ideas. Very customer oriented. Waterfalls and treks in Bolaven was B+ and the 4000 Islands were AA. Definitely glad I stayed right at the railway bridge rather than up north on teh "big island". Vat Phu was obligatory but not as interesing for me. Seeing Mekong in different shapes and uses was a real insight into the country. WIll go back and definitely use Xplore Asia.

We have organised, via internet, a customized trip in the south of Laos with Xplore Asia : Bolaven plateau, Champasak, 4000 islands. Everything went smoothly, in spite of sometime difficult conditions due to hard rain, thanks to the quality of our guide.
Hotels and accomodations where very nice : big, clean and nicely furnished rooms, and nice people.
The guide proposed many stops (markets, craftsmen) that were not in the description of the trip : there are plenty to see in south Laos, and people are very friendly.

we visited North Laos in July 2012, our travel was organized before starting with e-mails with Alex Aziz, and toghether we prepared a very interesting week in north Laos.
First Luang Prabang and surroundings, then Vang Vieng and at last Vientiane
We travelled in Air-conditioned Minivan with a private guide and driver.
The program is Ok , eventually you can stay a night more in Vang Vieng for water sports

Here the Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Thursday Arrival Luang Prabang /
Luang Prabang is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquillity and charm of this UNESCO world heritage town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights makes it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos.
Arrive in Luang Prabang and In the evening explore the Street Night Bazaar, where you can find the lovely collection and handmade textiles by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.
Day 2: Luang Prabang /
After breakfast, we enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city's oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represent the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temple.
Board a cruise for an amazing long tail boat journey along Mekong River to where it meets the Nam-Ou River, through the beautiful Laotian countryside passing by local villages Stop at the fascinating Pak Ou caves, which in fact are a cave system of two interlinked caves, crammed full of Buddha statues left behind by pilgrims over generations. Observe the traditional process of rice wine distillation in Ban Sanghai, before returning to Luang Prabang.
In the afternoon visit the impressive Stupa of Wat Visoun and Wat Mai; then climb the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi to take in the beautiful sunset over this town and the Mekong River.
In the evening there is the option to participate in a traditional Baci ceremony. These ceremonies are deeply rooted in the Laos culture and are used to celebrate a special occasion- whether a wedding, an annual festival, or as a welcome.
Day 3: Luang Prabang /
For those early risers you have a fantastic opportunity to take part in the daily morning ritual of Alms giving to the saffron-clad monks who walk along in single file collecting offerings, normally food. This is a unique tradition throughout Laos and the monks are fully supported by the local residents.
Visit the Laotian Royal Palace officially known as Haw Kham which was built during the French colonial era for the King and his family. The site was chosen so that official visitors to Luang Prabang could disembark from their river voyages directly by palace and be received there. In 1975, the monarchy was overthrown and the Palace was then converted into a National museum. Today it houses many artefacts which showcase the richness of Laotian culture.
In the afternoon take a trip to Kuang Si Waterfall about 30mins from Luang Prabang, the waterfall is set in a natural jungle setting and you will have plenty of time to relax or swim in its turquoise cool pools.
It is also possible to Visit a Black Hmong village where they produce varieties of handmade handicrafts.
Return to Luang Prabang in the afternoon.
Day 4: Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng /
Our journey continues on through mountainous scenery south to Vang Vieng you will be able to stop at H’mong Villages on the way.
The Hmong are an ethnic group from the mountainous regions of Laos. They are also one of the sub-groups of the Miao ethnicity in southern China. to Vientiane province and Vang Vieng a small rural village which is located in a stunning natural setting, with a backdrop of Limestone Mountains by the river, arriving Vang Vieng early afternoon. Take a short trip to Tham Chang cave before unwinding on the Nam Song River.
It may also be an option to stop at the Organic farm and take a slow boat or kayak down river back to Vang Vieng. The Organic Farm is about 4km upstream of Vang Vieng town.
Day 5: Vang Vieng - Vientiane
Our final day takes us from Vang Vieng, to the capital city of Laos, Vientiane arriving Vientiane in time for lunch.
After a short time to freshen up, we head out to discover Vientiane, visiting the main temples and colonial monuments that give this city and amazing architectural and cultural contrast.
Our tour will start with the thousands of miniature Buddha’s at Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in the city and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo which used to house the Emerald Buddha, now in Bangkok, Thailand. We’ll then take a short ride across the city to see the National symbol of Laos which is the ‘That Luang Stupa ‘and stop at the imposing Patuxay Monument Laos Arch de Triumph a reminder of the French Colonial period. We’ll arrive back at our hotel late afternoon in time for you to relax before dinner and heading out to sample the colours and exotic smells of the night market, by the river.
Day 6: /Transfer for your departure from hotel to airport

Usually xplore asia offers a one day bolaven plateau tour. In advance I requested if two days are possible. Response came directly , the tour did sound reasonable ... We joined the day tour till tadlo, stayed there, did a trekking the next morning and were picked up with the next day... Generally a good idea, BUT the first day was done quite in a rush the first morning. One waterfall, one plantation, one village. Afternoon was "off" for us. Booking a two day tour the first day was quite disappointing. Secondly our guide was not existing... We had a driver, that's it. No explanations at the planation etc.

We went to this agency because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor but we don't see what's so great. Pretty much every trip they had was way beyond our budget (starting at a 100 usd) except the day trip to the Bolaven plateau, so we booked this. Next morning at pickup we find that they didn't have enough passengers to fill a van, so we were added to the van of another company. Which is fine, that stuff happens all the time of course. But then it turns out that the promised English speaking driver hardly knows a word of English and that several people who booked through other agencies got a nice paper with a map and a description of all the stops we were making. Then I wonder: what's so great about this agency?

Did a two day one night trip from Pakse up around the Bolaven Plateau in late Nov 13. Well looked after for the trip with a very capable guide (Ms Noi) albeit a somewhat conservative driver (safe which was good, but slow at times).Good comfortable vehicle. Overall a positive experience with trips to most of the main tourist attractions (several beautiful waterfalls, local tea plantation, local villages) but not to a coffee plantation, which I felt was a bit strange. If I was to do this trip again, I would consider reversing the order (north to south clockwise rather than south to north anti clockwise) and actually staying on the Bolaven Plateau at one of the more "rustic" waterfall lodges rather than Tad Lo Lodge (which whilst arguably the pick of the places in the area and very pleasant is really at the bottom of the escarpment). Overall was well organised although advice provided that day 2 was a "full" day was a bit off the mark as really this trip is a 1 1/2 day at best not 2 day trip so could have caught the afternoon flight to Vientiane if more information had been provided initially. However well worthwhile and a good tour provide, so fully recommended.

I booked a two day tour on the internet as we had limited time in Pakse. The team were very helpful and organised. We were met by the team at Pakse airport. Our bikes were in excellent condition (mine was brand new) and were already measured for our heights. The tour was at just the right speed with stops at regular intervals. I really enjoyed getting off the beaten track and seeing the countryside around Pakse. Aod, our guide spoke excellent English told us a lot about the local culture and customs. We were well supported by the minivan which drove our luggage and an endless supply of snacks and cold drinks. I felt like the day was exactly at the right pace. We were transferred by minivan to our overnight accommodation in the Bolivan plateau. Day 2 was a trip around the Bolivan plateau, visiting local ethnic villages and waterfalls. There was time for our group to do the flying fox at Tad Fane. We all gave the weekend 10/10. Thanks to the X-plore Asia team for such a great weekend.

The service by Mai Phitsamai at the office and the tour operators and tuk tuk drivers were all excellent. Everyone went out of their way to help us. We did the Bolaven Plateau tour,Wat Phu tour and booked our bus tkt to Ubon R. Example of our experience...they so accommodating, they came to pick us up in the morning, we caught the cruise down the Mekong to Champasak, the tuk tuk took us to our hotel, waited till we checked in then took us to Wat Phu with a short photo stop to take a photo of a budda btw to trees. He was present at the designated time to rtn us, he offered to stop to let us have lunch and he helped us find a place to exchange $ when every place was closed (New years eve). We stayed the night at Champasak as planned then decided to take the local bus back to Pakse vs waiting for the cruise at 2. When we popped into the xplore-asia office to check on our bus tkt and let them known not to wait for us...they refunded us the $ for not taking the cruise back!! What a surprise! Not only did we have a great experience and tour...we got $ back when we changed our plans!

Booked this tour through our hotel. We had a van with driver to ourselves. We wery lucky with our driver - he spoke English and was keen to show us as much as possible. We met another couple who had done the same tour but had a driver who barely spoke a word of English and couldn't explain anything. We visited a knife foundry and shop, coffee plantation, several fantastic waterfalls, more cassava fields than you can shake a stick at and an authentic Katu village which was interesting but quite depressing as the inhabitants seemed to have zero ambition to better themselves or their living conditions. It was a long day but really worthwhile and made me want to explore further,
