We heard about this new tour going on at Wicho and Charlies agency. We tried their Acatenango hike and was super cool so we decided to go on this sunrise hike. First of all this is a hike no one in Antigua is doing, is...More

We made this trip at the end of June. We were 3 families together, both locals and tourists. The kids are aged 4 to 17, and all of us had a great time. The youngest had horses, which was good fun. Wonderful views to the...More

Absolutely worth the hike! This is an active volcano and you can see the lava flowing and feel the heat from it. The hike is intermediate to difficult and wear good hiking shoes . Roast marshmallows and eat fresh orange that is sold on the...More

First, I must share the issue with the transport, we booked a local tour through a guide who was with us in Guatemala. We left Antigua around lunchtime for what was supposed to be a reasonable journey to the volcano. We were in traffic for...More

I booked a trip to Pacaya many years ago and was able to hike out to and walk across the lava field along with a number of friends. The bottoms of our shoes literally melted as we were walking on the hardened lava. We have...More

You can get really close to the lava. You feel the heat from under your feet as you stand close to the lava. Depends on the flow of the lava how close you can get.

Pacaya is certainly an active volcano. If you have a chance to go when it is spewing lava, it is a fascinating hike. I am an avid hiker, and was skeptical about the need for a guide on a common trail. If you are just...More

The hike up to the volcano is a strenuous one, but there are plenty of places to rest along the way. Once on 'top' the view of the peak is spectacular. The volcano was active when we visited. You can spend time walking on volcanic...More

Hi Lone Traveller - there are many different agencies offering the tour with different schedules and prices. The basic sunrise tour can be booked at pretty much every agency and hostel. Hope that helps! Vc

We used Sin Fronteras for our whole trip. They are local as well. Excellent service. More high end.
