Our family of 4 (with 6 month old and 3 year old) took a one way trip to Colon from Panama City. This is a beautiful activity for little ones. You get to take the train along the Panama canal and see some of the...More
My family took the Panama Canal Railway ride from Colon to Panama City. One needs to understand the history of this railway before going on board. It was designed to transport goods from/to Atlantic/Pacific sides on behalf of large ships that couldn’t enter the earlier...More
We were rather confused on arrival as everyone seemed to be in groups with guides and tickets, whereas we just wanted to get home by train to Panama City. The train was there a long time before departure and it was unclear whether we could...More

We took the train from Panama City to Colon twice during our two week visit. The first time, on a Monday, the observation car was almost empty. This was very nice for us! The train station also has a number of RR themed items for...More
We had booked this tour through our cruise ship and really enjoyed it! The train cars are historic AmTrack cars, which have been restored to it's old glory and modernized (with AC and rest rooms). When we first got on the train it was freezing...More
The ride and staff were terrific. A really fun way to ride from the Atlantic to the Pacific in about an hour. Standing on the platform outside was the highlight, even though we went to great pains for a window seat.
included in our tour with the rio chagres and agua clara locks (I think it was the tour number 303 of nativ atours but check with them) the train is roof translucide and goes all theway along the canal track

Tried to see if it was possible to make a reservation for either Thursday or Friday (Apr. 18, 19), and could not find a site to give me the option of a reservation. Suggest you contact one of the Panama tour agencies by email or phone to ask specifically. The earliest date I found available was Apr 24th. On another web site the first available date was May 1st.
Note also the train is made up of regular cars and an observation car. You may need a special ticket to ride in the observation car! Good luck!
