We went here for a quick visit. There is lots of artifacts regarding the Pre-Columbian period in Costa Rica. You could spend a lot of time here. It is located under the plaza in front of the National Theater.

The closest equivalent to this museum is the Museo del Oro in Bogota, Colombia, which I was fortunate to visit only the week before. This museum in San Jose is no where near the size nor contains the diversity of objects and works of art...More

Museum was recently renovated and was gorgeous. Spacious, clean, excellently laid out, it was fantastic. A nice array of info (in English and Spanish), gold exhibits, and cultural exhibits.

Really worth a visit if you want to understand the background to Costa Rica and the history. Including details of indigenous people still living here. Found it far more interesting than I thought. It’s not just about Gold!!!

We went here on a whim. Is underground beneath a plaza. A bit of security to get in due no doubt to the value of exhibits. Found it very interesting and well worth the visit.

Great displays and centrally located. Each floor does a wonderful job. If you are into history defiantly put this on your list to see.

He loved it and we spent quite some time here. The exhibits are well displayed and explained. The glitters kept our grandson interested. And the gift shop provided him a place to begin the souvenir purchases for his family back home. Prices were extremely reasonable....More

Not the best museum I’ve been too- I expected to see more gold instead of just coins. Very secure and nice clean restrooms on site.

I rented a car when we were in San Jose...but Uber is perfect. There are many parking lots around the museum. In fact there is a very close one so that you just have to walk 100m and your there ...everywhere. Very safe... More
