Looking down into the cauldron & seeing red hot lava at the bottom is fascinating, however many of the videos & photos one sees are exaggerated due to zooming in. Clouds of acidic gas also tend to greatly reduce visibility. It should also be noted...More

Because liquid hot magma. You can actually see it in there. It’s incredible. Driving up you can see the lava deposits from the last major explosion in 1772 (that’s what I remember from our guide).

While you can only spend about 15 minutes at the crater due to the gases, it is worth visiting just to see the lava. Also, the setting sun is beautiful through the gases.

We have been here several times, most at night because that was what was recommended, however the last time we went was during the day. I preferred during the day because you can still see the lava but you also get to see everything else...More

Just came back from a day trip to Nicaragua with one of the highlights being the Masaya Volcano. Called Volcan Masaya Nacionale , you get to actually look into the crater of an active volcano. I've never seen anything like this and don't really know...More

It was amazing to walk up to the edge and stare over into a bubbling pit of lava and even better to see the burst and bubbles - bring binoculars, best seen at night. Make sure to take time and have friends be quiet and...More

This was an absolutely awesome place to visit. You can see and hear the roar power of the earth and mother nature. We got a taxi up to the top so maybe didn't get told as much as a tour guide would say. Entrance in...More

This is a must do if you are staying in or around Managua. You are taken up to the actual crater via bus so no actual hiking is involved unless you choose to do one of the optional hikes to nearby lookout spots near the...More

I'm not sure I'd call it a "Tour". As noted above, large parking lot. Tour buses have a 20 minute maximum time limit. Parking seems to be less restricted. I do not know if a private tour company (smaller vehicle) would... More
