It’s not open much and it’s easy to think it’s closed because there’s no sign on what looks like the entrance to send you around back. Unsurprisingly, there are no original works in this small museum, but there’s great love for the man and his art displayed in prints and small exhibits. We were glad we scouted around for the open door, which many others have seemingly missed. Also, throughout Port-Vendres, there are small installations and mounted photos commemorating the artist—along the quais and along the hiking trails near the village. We loved it.…

Firstly a few practical points. It is easy to spot the domed building housing the museum from the centre of Port Vendres. There is a small public car park below the museum, which had plenty of space when we visited in October. Do check the opening times / days, by ringing them close to your intended visiting time. A beautiful museum in a renovated building. Great views of the village and mountains. Interesting permanent exhibition. The temporary exhibition regarding the life and work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh was superb as not only were his paintings there but also items of furniture that he had designed. Well worth a visit.…

We checked on the internet which stated opening times Wednesday and Friday 4pm to 6pm. Because of the comments on Tripadvisor we also phoned the museum and were told it shut at 7.30pm. After a hot walk from Collioure we arrived at 5.15pm to find it shut with a closing time on the door of 5.00pm. There is nothing much to do in Port-Vendres so we came back on the bus. …
