Description:

Trotters World of Animals has rebranded to become the Lake District...

Trotters World of Animals has rebranded to become the Lake District Wildlife Park, representing the transition from its early days as a farm park. Today, emphasis is very much on conservation, education and engaging with visitors - our Keepers are keen to talk and enjoy passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm. Wander around our beautiful 24 acre parkland and see over 100 species. The magical Bird of Prey flying displays have been a regular feature since the park opened and we have gathered an eclectic mix of over 100 species from Anaconda to Zebra. The Granddad of the park is Brian the Lar Gibbon - he is the oldest in Europe and has pride of place in the centre of the park where he and his family can be seen swinging from the massive Oak tree. We joined the Zoo Federation (now BIAZA) in 2002 and over the years we have successfully worked with Zoo stud books to breed rarer species like Canadian Lynx, Asian Fishing Cats and Ring Tailed Lemurs to name just three.

I visited here with my 3 year old and 1 year old daughters. We had a lovely day. Perfect size for my girls walking around... they especially enjoyed the reptile encounters. My youngest got in free as she was under 3 years old. My only downside to the visit was the cafe. It was very expensive in there, good food... More

Today I visited the park with my husband and one year old son and I am terribly disappointed with our experience. After reading the stream of positive reviews about the park I was very excited to visit and was completely suprised with how run down and miserable the park actually is. The animal enclosures are in some cases far too... More

Dear Amy Firstly, I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your visit. Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to the Wildlife Park. I’m pleased you enjoyed seeing the meerkat mob. Admittedly, there is a lot of maintenance work being carried out and building work going on. Although the nativity is now complete and the... More

If you love animals you will love this place. The staff are more than helpful and very informative. There are many different species from rabbits and goats to Zebras and Yaks. The bird of prey enclosure is very impressive with some amazing species on display. The Bald and Golden eagles were my personal favourites but the Harris Eagles were lovely... More

A lovely spot, loads of animals and much bigger then I expected. Cafe was lovely, food fresh and reasonably priced. I just find the entrance price a little steep.

Hi Shirelle V Thanks for your review. It is indeed a lovely spot, nestled beneath Skiddaw Mountain, and I agree the park is deceptively larger than it initially looks! I'll pass your comments about the lovely fresh food on to Lisa our catering manager :) More

Visited the Lake District Wildlife Park while in the area and spent a fantastic morning here despite the rain. The staff are all very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do.

This is a Good honest wildlife park. It is fairly compact. There is a good value cafe, welcoming staff and a handy soft play area. We had a lovely and informative talk about the otters and the red pandas which our 3 year old was able to get up close and personal. The hug a bunny experience was also a... More

Once you found the park, which can be a little difference, you find a good half-day out. Some animals we haven't seen before, such as the hunting cats, and it was nice to see. Animals look like they're treated well too.

Very friendly, welcoming and passionate staff. Keeper talks were very good and interesting. Flying displays were great. All the animals seemed well cared for and happy. First time we've been to a zoo and seen a red panda padding around its area, normally tucked up in a tree! Price wasn't too bad, certainly OK for size. If you've got z... More

Spent a lovely day here and found it very good for a small zoo. They do not have a huge selection of animals but the ones they had seemed to be in excellent condition with glossy thick coats. I'm afraid to say that this is a somewhat run down zoo with a limited supply of animals in smaller cages than we are used to these days. I would have to add that none of the animals seemed to be mistreated or undernourished but apparently not kept to the standard that is acceptable today.
