If you’re driving by, be sure to stop. The statue has an interesting history and I was surprised to see it even has a connection to Boston. Nice tribute to military as well onsite. Public restrooms were clean and open behind the public offices, by the parking area.

Went to view the statue and was impressed at the tribute to Veterans. The statue is commanding. The site is right off the road and there is a historical library and shops across the street.

The story behind this statue is quite interesting. Worth the drive up the coast to see the original in all its restored glory. Not necessarily worth a second visit (he does not change much)

The history of this statue is interesting. The State decided they wanted a statue of King Kamehameha I for a commemoration of the one hundred year anniversary of Capt. Cook's landing in Hawaii in 1778. They commissioned a sculptor to have a bronze statue shipped over from Europe. The original sculpture was lost when the ship went down near the... More

It was a long drive from Kona but worth it. The statue is well preserved and cared for and stands proudly next to the road. Interesting to compare this one (first casting) to the second casting in Honolulu.

As you take a drive around the island of Hawaii make sure you see the original Kings statue. More colourful than the replica!

It was cool to see and read the one page history sheet. But definitely not worth the effort to drive to. If you are an around the island tour, then you will see it.

The North Kohala coast is hands down my favorite place on the Big Island. Many reasons to visit Hawi, Kapaau, Pololu Valley, etc., and this is a perfect stop when you're up here. This is the statue (there are two others) very near KK's birthplace. Come see it, read the story, and then go across the street for some ice... More

This hard to miss landmark is located right off 270 in town of Kapaau, just east of Hawi. Park at the nearby eateries and stroll on over and read the rather interesting plaque about this colorfully painted cast brass sculpture and its past.
