We came in the late afternoon and were totally enchanted! A local family we met on the ferry crossing the Mekong gave us a ride, which added to the positive experience. On the way back to Champasak, we were able to hitch a ride. Definitely worth the 50k entrance fee, even if you just have an hour. The views are... More

We only came here to kill a day at the recommendation of a travel agent but we were surprised at how amazing the view was. It doesn't look like much from the entrance but once you climb all the stairs the view is worth staying a while for. Be sure to explore the whole area for the elephant, crocodile and... More

We visited late morning just after the moon festival so the remains of the festivals were there but it was absolutely empty and peaceful. The views from the top are beautiful and it was interesting to learn that Hindu and animalistic rituals existed side by side as up behind the temple is the crocodile stone where human sacrifice took place.... The world heritage site which was built before Angkor Wat , we can see how the original of the Khmer influences in the areas, the building is not complete some pieces or part missing but the layout of the whole complex is very interesting, the walk way leading to the most important part on mountain so we had to climb... Easy to get to by car from Pakse or Tuk Tuk from Champasak.I have been before and always find the restoration amazing. The steps to the top are step but you can go on the grass route which is a little easier. Do take plenty of water there are ladies selling water at the top which is OK but children... More

We have visited the temple complex after full moon festival and although the place is in beautiful natural scenery, the actual historical site is quite small and if you have seen Angkor Wat, hindu temples of India or Bagan in Myanmar, you will just find this quite a small temple with not so many impressive features (of course unless you... Of all temples visited the location, architecture and preservation of Wat Phi amazed us. The causeway leading to the sacred mountain is impressive and walking the old worn out stone staircase surrounded by deliciously sweet smelling Francipani flowers you ascend is kind of magic. The complex is big and you can easily spend some hours discovering the details of the... More

The largest archaeological site in Laos is definitely worth a visit. Much smaller in scale than Cambodian temples but impressive nonetheless. Steps lined with ancient frangipani trees lead to Sanctuary temple and great views. Go early before heat and tours. Good museum. Problems - litter very bad but maybe as moon festival previous week but why cannot world heritage body... More
