Want to see a REAL temple/pagoda in China? You can't find anything more authentic/dì dào than the Liuzi Temple in Lingling. Down a "hùtong" alley in the southern portion of the city, this temple incorporates traditional Chinese architecture and layout, across the river (by 1.5 RMB ferry) from similarly ancient buildings. The walk to Liuzi Temple, from the Xiang River embankment along an ancient cobbled street lined on both sides with charming and largely intact old dwellings, is as pleasant as visiting the temple itself. Well worth the 45-minute drive from Lingshiutan.
