Alto Douro Wine Region is certainly one of the oldest demarcated regions in the world. In 1756, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Secretary General of the Kingdom, created the Alto Douro Vineyard Agriculture Company, thus demarcating the best vineyards in the region, certifying them as suitable for the production of the much appreciated wines abroad, ensuring thus its exceptional quality and protecting our exports, common practice in an enlightened and mercantilist Europe like that of the 17th and 18th centuries.<br><br>We are therefore talking about a journey through local and national history that stimulates the senses through unique landscapes, unforgettable flavors, and local traditions that are lost in time.
