We were here in August so the beach was very busy with Japanese holiday makers. However, the beach is big enough for you to find a spot. The beach is clean and the water is very clear. A great place for surfing or body boarding.

I can't compare to other Shimoda beaches, but we were quite happy. Water was clear, the place was scenic, the beach goes out gradually so that if waves had been a little higher body surfing would have been very satisfactory, and there are showers for cleaning up afterwards. Some members of our group preferred to eat lunch, and bought noodles... More

This beach is really nice and clean. The water is clear and with a beautiful blue color. We were almost the only gaijin there and we felt very good. As always in Japan the people were nice and polite with each other. Funny fact (for us European) : at a moment everybody stood up and people began to CLEAN the... More

I stayed in ryokan and took advantage of the open air baths while my 15 year old son went on a shore dive - great day on a beautiful stretch of beach

Very nice beach and not overcrowded (we were there a Saturday in June) not overdeveloped, so bring your own beach gear including shade. very good way of spending a day at the beach.

We visited Shimoda as a day trip from Ito, although you can get here from Tokyo on a limited express train. When we arrived in Shimoda, we asked the opinion of the people in the information booth on the best beaches. This beach is a little less busy than the more popular ones but was absolutely great. The ocean is... More

We come here so my husband can surf...I generally hide under an umbrella. Nice beach, and off season..really relaxing. We usually come in May-June or Oct-Nov. In summer, lots of people are here and the beach is packed with families. If you can come off season, the water won't be warm, but it is pretty. Great for photos..and relaxing. Small... More

Beautiful. Excellent for surfing especially. In early November, there were 20 to 30 surfers most of the time, but no swimmers.
