Idaho onsen is not as famous as some of the other onsen within a few hours drive but it's worth a visit. One of Japan's oldest onsen. The rusty brown waters which run through the town and many of the hotels are the town's standout feature. The steps running through the center of the town lead to the hot spring... More

We stayed overnight at an onsen hotel in Ikaho Onsen in the winter on our way from Kusatsu Onsen to Tokyo. Ikaho Onsen is famous as an onsen town and has a 365 steps stone staircase which leads to a lovely shrine at the top of the stairs. Along the way, there are some tacky souvenir shops and strange shooting... More

Ikaho Onsen is acually a hot springs “area” with many inns, hotels and “spas” or onsens. Ikaho is famous for its 360 stone steps (see the pictures) and the hot springs. We were there in the fall, so the colors and views were amazing. We stayed in an inn just off the stone steps also with wonderful views. The water... More

great place for fresh air and feel the Japan! Onsen = the natural hot spring. nice food there, especially, u walk up the hill through the road, then heading back to the shrine and stone steps, there is a small stall selling some grill stick, and also sweet corn! put the 100 yen into the box, and take the corn... There is nothing much to do on the stair steps attraction but enjoying some preserved shops and great scenery of hill and Mountains. You may spend only 1-1.5 hours exploring the area. I think the more interesting thing is about Spa. Staying a night and booking private spa room in some hotels. It is great experience!
