This is an historic silk mill that's been kind of restored and opened to the public. The museum is pretty good. NOTE - there IS an English brochure that explains all the displays in detail. But it's not easy to find. I asked a security...More

It's a whole silk village really, with female/male workers' accommodation, hospital, director's house and the fabric halls. It gives a good impression and an overview on how the silk industry developed in Japan. Apparently it took French engineering to propel it along. The English information...More

This place became a Unesco world heritage site back in 2014 and at last i had the opportunity to go. Entrance is 1000 yen but if you want to go along with a tour its extra 200 yen. Also they were doing some roof reconstruction...More

There are several sections to this place. After having paid the basic entry fee, you have access to the reeling, accommodation, warehouse and shop. The remainder of the facility requires more money, which is disappointing. On specific days there are people that demonstrate silk reeling...More

When we arrived, the queue was already there. Lots of local travellers. Drove around as we noticed that the parking nearby was expensive. Anyway, later we spend about 500 yen for 2.5hrs parking. As we didn't really understand what that fellow was trying to tell...More

After paying the 1000yen and entering the Silk Mill we had discovered that we had been tricked. The Silk Mill is a Silk Mill but it's not a tourist attraction. My favourite was when the 200yen audio guide (and free map) referenced the 'cocoon drying...More

This is by far the worst Unesco world heritage that I have visited. Most of the buildings are not accessible for the public and there are no English descriptions or brochures. How can the ¥1000 entrance fee be justified for walking around the grounds which...More

By World heritage Hunter. This is Worst,Sorry.I think this is not world, only Tomioka. It,s better to go Asio Cupper mine.
