Odawara Castle is a symbol of Odwara City. It was as an impregnable castle owned by the Hojo clan, the samurai family who governed Kanto region for about a century from the end of 15th century. Since then, the castle became a reserve for Hakone and Tokaido route and functioned as a cornerstone of defense in the region. The castle has reopened in May 2016 after the completion of a seismic retrofit and renewal of the exhibition inside.

It’s a very pretty castle with lots of history. Even though we already knew it’s a replica, still can’t help to be a little disappointed when we saw the very modern interior. Despite so, we enjoyed all the exhibitions throughout the castle. There’s a lot...More

Can‘t compare to other castles like Himeiji, Osaka, Aizu Wakamatsu, Kanazawa. So if you know the above mentionend you would be deceived by Odawarajo. If you want to see it, go there during Sakura and/or combine it with another sightseeing spot

This castle is beautiful and easy to find. Just 10 minutes walk from the Odawara station, the admission fee is reasonable for 500 yen (about $5). Inside the castle are lots of very interesting artifacts of historical values. Once you get to the top level,...More

It was rainy, but it turned out to be good because we were keeping away from the crowded sightseeing. It is worth 500 yen for admission fee.

The castle is really nice, and so are the gardens. It was pretty busy though, and sadly most of the info was not translated into any other languages besides Japanese. You could dress up in a kimono, or as a samurai or ninja, which was...More

Yes there is a limited amount of parking in the Castle precinct . Think the cost was about US$10 for 3 hours or it might have been 4 hours. There is also parking about 400-500 metres away and this was where our buses... More
