Found the place by accident, only upon reading signs at the parking lot I realised these were the 999 steps built by the Namahage. It is by all means worthwhile to go. Any season, one of the most breathtaking , haunting shrines ever in Japan....More

One reaches Goshado via a highway wending its way along the shoreline of Oga Peninsula -- scenic, if only the early-summer undergrowth hadn't blocked views to the sea! Reached after a 20-minute uphill walk, the five handsome, if austere, shrines stood together in a clearing....More
