The lake is almost perfectly circular (volcanic I guess) and surrounded by mountains. Nice views across. Not sure about the Tatsuko statute - seems a bit incongruous in this natural setting.

Really beautiful lake, the water is so clear. There are many sightseeing spots around the lake. I guess the easiest way to go around is a rental car, but I think there is also a bus that goes around the lake too. Went here in...More

Lake Tazawa 田澤湖was one of the stops during our 2016 Autumn leaf-viewing Trip. We took a lot of pictures at this golden lady statue (姬觀音像), peaceful water, vibrant autumn maple leaves on the trees and distant mountains.

Although a long bus trip, the beauty of Japan lies in its peaceful lakes, trees, gardens and mountains, Mt Fuji being the stunner. Many will look at the statue and feel nothing- but this is a symbol - as is the lake. But the usual...More

There is a good story attached to the statue but it is nothing special to look at. What save it are the stunning views.

We drove around the lake on a rather murky day in April, far from the best time to visit but very nice views across the lake to the snow topped peaks beyond... in the summer and autumn I guess it must be spectacular

Hello, I did not stay at the Nyuto Onsen. But I understand the buses run from Tazawako JR station every hour or so around the Lake and up to the Nyuto area. I am away from home at the moment so can't get to my trip... More
