We spent 8 wonderful days cycling around the Ijsselmeer from Amsterdam, staying overnight in Volendam, enkhuizen, Den Oever (really lovely), makkum, lemmer, Giethoorn, harderwijk and back to Amsterdam. Free parking. Supermarket and shops near the beach. The water was too shallow to swim, but it cooled you off. It wasn't overcrowded, the next people were at least 3-5 meters away.
