Surprisingly the old temple still maintain nicely until today. The steep thatched roof & Momoyama style architecture made it one of the National Treasure of Japan.

Aso Shrine was founded in 806 AD. The present shrine was constructed in early Edo period 1609-1613, regarded as protector of the land in Kuma district. not so crowded & beautiful place. the rooster is quite beautiful you must need to take picture for them. ha

Not everyone will be jet-lagged, waking up at 2:00 or 3:00 and ready to go. My first day I did just this, went to the onsen, and while I was soaking heard a rooster.
