Walked on Pattaya beach a few times to go to the walking street and were very glad our resort was not on this beach. The resorts here seem to be cramped together with sunbathing people and shouting Thai on the doorstep. There is only a small part of the sea where you can actually swim, the rest is packed with longtails and speedboats. We prefer a bit more peace and quiet

Many of the photos you see are from 20 years ago when there was no pollution, coral,.fish and just a few long tail boats. Now there are probably over 100 longtail boats making noise all day long. The coral is mostly dead, the big fish have gone, sewage goes into the sea and the sand is no longer powder. Sad, this place used to be a paradise. The locals are experts at destroying their best resources.

Wonderful island but you want to get off this beach asap! Boats coming and going people people and then some more people it was crazy (although I was there during Chinese new year!) it was like Torquay on speed!
There are wonderful quiet beaches nearby, luckily!!!

Pattaya beach is a great beach for families. The water is crystal clear and very calm. My 8 year old daughter and I spent 4 days here and we absolutely loved it. Everyone should visit Pattaya Beach if they have the chance.

To the visitor who wish to visit pattaya beach, be careful for the long tail. Moreover, The beach is full of die coral and stone. You are difficult to swim at the sea since the it sharp enough to hurt your feet.

Our Sita Resort hotel was on this beach and we enjoyed taking numerous strolls here. Our speedboat also landed near the entrance to the Walking Street area and it was very convenient to get to our lodging. The Walking Street was very long and had had many shops and restaurants available.

We stayed at the Pattaya Beach during our recent visit to Koh Lipe and found this beach to be very "happening". Was kinda worried reading boats dock here but was surprised to find out that during the low season (May to November) the longtails and speedboats are parked at Sunrise Beach instead, making the Pattaya Beach a very nice place to be at.

Lots of bars and restaurants as well as some nice hotels (we stayed at Akira Lipe) on this beach and you get nice colors at sunset too.

Water is crystal clear and sand is nice and soft. Early morning you will see monks strolling down the beach too.

Only a disappointed to see trash and broken glasses on the beach, so hope tourist and local alike will try to keep their beach pristine and i do hope to be back again soon.

In low season Pattya is the quiet beach, all the boats and the platform are moved to sunrise beach. Both beaches has clear water and lots of Clownfish in the shallow waters. Koh lipe is quiet and lots of shops and restaurants are closed due to low (green) season.

Sunrise

Sunrise is much quieter, prettier, less long tail boats and better swimming. It also has access (kayak or swim) to two small rock island full of coral and fish life. (Go there during high water only, otherwise you will destroy the coral or shave off your top layer of skin).

Like all of Sunrise beach the paths/roads leading back to Walking street are pretty scruffy and dirty.

Unfortunately Sunrise beach (close to the school) seems to be the landing point for the garbage barge. This would not be such a problem if they would load it up in one day and then move off. However it seems to take ages (3 days) to load and the stench starts to get very bad.

Sunrise beach can be very windy during N/E monsoon (Nov-March), great for kiters but less for your hair do. Less windy during the other period (Apr-Oct) when it’s more windy on Pattaya.

For swimming with kids (under 10) go anywhere on Sunrise. Pattaya only Bundhaya or Mali

Pattaya

Beach is wider than Sunrise and there are more places to eat/drink on the beach. At night it’s also better with improvised beach seafood restaurants (great food).

It’s much busier with both people and long tail boats and no places for snorkeling.

Because of the huge number of long tail boats Pattaya beach only has two locations to swim safely. These areas are roped up and don't allow long tails. One is at Bundhaya (next to Blue Tribes) and the other is a larger stretch between Z Touch and Mali Resort. Look on Google Earth and you can see what I mean.

There is a ‘dog issue’ on the whole island. Pattaya is worse than Sunrise.

Better still, stay a few days on one beach and a few days on the other. Walking from one place to the other is only 20 minutes.
