One of the best outdoor festivals for Hardstyle music. The people are greta, the weather is always great even if it's raining and you can really let go of the normal and just party. Wdance do a great job of giving you unusual experiences and quirky experiences within the festival ground too...
If you are thinking about visiting I'll ask you... What are you waiting for!

This was an experience!!! Hardstyle morning noon and night and definitely not for the feint hearted. Fantastic special effects, animatronics and theatrics, especially on the main stage. On the Saturday and Sunday night, there was an amazing firework display, perfectly timed to a robotic moving stage and of course some pure Defqon hardstyle tunes. The atmosphere was electric and people everywhere were happy dancing and enjoying the experience. I met some brilliant people there and was lucky not to see any trouble.
Unfortunately, the staff at the festival were not included in these people. I was absolutely shocked at how antagonistic and aggressive some of the security staff were. On one experience we were looking for the Gold tent and my partner tapped a security guy on the shoulder to ask him directions and he turned around in an instant, put him in a chokehold and as my partner struggled, more security came out and carted him off behind a restricted access fence to 'talk to him.' I was horrified and more than anxious about what happened. My partner was 'warned' and 'allowed' back to the festival.
We didn't let this stop us having a boss night as tickets for the full weekend were expensive and we had driven all the way from the UK to be there! However, at the end of the first night we made the short walk back to the exit, where there was a path to the left that led us back to the campsite we were staying on. We had walked the short distance to get there and it was completely safe and off road. As we tried to take the walk, once again we were met by aggressive staff refusing our entry to this side path. We tried to explain our pathway and where we were staying but they seemed to get more aggressive and physical. They told us the only way we could leave was to get a taxi at the rank and ALL taxi drivers charge a minimum of 50EURO to leave the car park. This is absolutely disgusting and an total CON at the end of a good night. What are people meant to do if they cant afford that at the end of a very expensive night?? This happened on all 3 nights and so we ended up spending 150EURO on taxis on top of our travel, camping, tickets and expenses! So for me ...been there, done that, don't want another Tshirt!

The company lied about the pick up point for the coach from Copenhagen to Holland. My daughter and boyfriend had to get a train from Copenhagen to another town two and a half hours away in Kolding, Denmark. They were coming from Stockholm, Sweden. I had written so many times to Defqon1 asking for information but received nothing. When they arrived at their hotel they were supposed to be shuttle buses to bring them to the festival and back. They ended up paying for taxis. I ended up paying an extra 400 euros on top of the original 2000 euros for the trip. Defqon1 are not interested in answering me. They are only interested in profit.

The festival is good if you like 30 hours of hard style, however if you're thinking about doing a travel package including bus (which you need to if you're from outside the UK as it's in the middle of nowhere) don't bother. Buses were inconsistent, late and poorly signed resulting in a £110 taxi fee after we had been told our bus had set off even though we'd checked every bus sign and had been 40 minutes early. When we asked for help the steward said he'd call the helpline but after not seeing him for another 30 minutes when I approached, he said he had other business to attend to and sat in his car for 30minutes to avoid the rain, while I reached a hypothermic state in festival clothing. V poor experience and certainly won't go again.

It was my scond defqon1 this year. The organizing agency Q dance underestimated everything. At the beginning there were few shuttle buses, the lack of space in the camp, showers and toilets. No night rest in tents, sundsystems are not allowed in camp, good joke. Festival, music, djs was amazing.

Festival on itself was great! Some area's really too busy, closing on main was simply irresponsible so busy. This should be controlled more. We stayed at the camping which was absolute drama! There was place for 10.000 on the field while 20.000 were staying there. Sanitary available for 1000 I think, every day a row of over an hour only to go to the toilet. Almost inhumane...

Conclusion festival is great, but do not stay at the open camping.

Defqon 2023. To start the DJ’s were amazing! I definitely want to get that out there. The look and feel of the venue and stages were incredible. The food was pretty good overall. And the majority of the staff were very nice. Now onto things that were not so good. Q-dance either intentionally over sold and just didn’t care when it came to the venue. There were definitely not enough water stands and long lines. There were huge lines for the toilets when they were working. And insanely long lines for the showers which there weren’t enough of. We also stood in the entrance line for 2.5 hours only to find out there was a fast line for people camping at highlands. This was after I asked the information tent and was told otherwise. During some of the sets we noticed people laying on the floor unconscious. People tried to help well paramedics either took forever to show up or never arrived. Some of these people had issues due to lack of hydration due to lack of water stands. Overall I think Q-dance was unorganized and not prepared for Defqon 1 this year…or they just don’t care. If you are planning on going let me give you some advice. There is no limit on water that you can bring in. And there is no limit on beer either. They don’t check or care about the 9 liter policy. You will pay 95 euro for 25 tokens. Beers are 2 tokens while food is 3 or 4. Make sure to bring chairs and something to make shade with as there aren’t many places to sit out of the sun. Also the taxi back to the train…they don’t give you a price or run their meter. At the end they said it was 120 euro…it’s not! We paid 60 euro after the driver confessed. If you have advice and went please add to the reviews. I don’t want to slam Q-dance…I honestly want to make this into the best venue possible either by preparing people or by giving notice to Q-dance on things they could change in the future. I honestly love hardstyle and this venue. And again huge props to all the DJ’s as it was an incredible experience I won’t forget!
