This was the 3rd stop on a tour of the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. We didn't really have enough time to absorb it all. The highlight is a high cross made out of limestone karst. Although it’s in ruins, they still say mass there. It was the smallest and poorest diocese in Ireland and wasn’t able to function... More

Well, I'm an architecture, castle, abbey, high cross and ogham chaser so when I hired a driver and he offered to drive me to see the Kilfenora crosses and abbey I was happy to go. When I arrived, I needed to duck to get through the tiny arch to enter the burial ground. The cathedral is still functioning and it... More

Stopped here while visiting the nearby tourist center. It's a beautiful, simple church, with lovely stained glass. Several historic crosses in the graveyard.

Easy to get to. Heart of Kilfenora, right beside the The Burren Visitor Centre. Some of the most intact Celtic crosses that I have come across in Ireland. Great stop for a break from the car. Take as little or as much time as you'd like.

Kilfenora is known as a "city of Crosses'. In the center of the village you can find a Cathedral's ruin (from the 12 th century) with Celtic Crosses it he the Cathedral and in the cementery.

What a good place to stop off. Right next to the Burden Visitor centre, where we had coffee and a lovely scone. We just managed to time it between coach tour stops which was lucky ! Tours seem to take priority as one couple were turned away as a coach was due to arrived. ( We escaped quickly) The crosses... More

We thought this was wonderful to see. It's history that is immortalized because the church leaders didn't knock down the old one, but built the new now as pat of the exhisting. I'm not religous person , but this is impressive and I'm glad it was saved for future generations to see for themselves

The cathedral ruins have been well preserved and are right next door to the Burren Center in Kilfenora. The area over the old high crosses has a roof covering it and there are placards explaining each cross. It is very informative and the crosses are fascinating. Well worth a visit - and it is free!

In the quaint hamlet of Kilfenora, full of great music and tradition, sits the simple beauty of the Kilfenora Cathedral. Dedicated to St. Fachtna who founded the local monastery in the 6th Century, these ruins are evocative of the rough and raw history of the Burren. Not large as monastic monuments go but with a richness that matches the most... More

Super site, well worth a visit. There have done a great job preserving this site and the information points are really informative. Well worth adding to your itinerary when in the Burren.
